Hey I really appreciate the support, thank you!! I'll have more coming with the same approach. It's taken a while to develop, and really glad people enjoy!
great revision of the already incredible AGx series you had released a few months back. i have a feeling that that video series had a lot to do with why blender has made such a big switch in it's color transform options. you were the first one to get the concept of Agx spread to the blender masses i think. you should be proud of that!
I loved the unique and new approach to explaining AgX! I've watched a few of the other videos that came out a month or so ago. I tried AgX and loved the dynamic range and better display of values and color saturation. Although I stuck to aces for the rest of a client project despite being tempted to swap, I'm excited to see this color transform improve the visual quality even if its under my perception of quality and not the "accurate". I think many assign the "accuracy" to the fact that it is closest to the dynamic range of the best cameras, even though they are not perfect either.

I have the same issue, AgX seems great and I saw grading is way better than ACES, but ACES give me the same color display in all my software without question myself and it's not the case with AgX from Blender (I use OCIO system variable to init it). In Blender great, in nuke, not the same picture including with the look "High contrast" I used in Blender and in Davicni, same, differents result. This is not good for a good pipeline for VFX but AgX is far better on grading and rendering. I just need maybe the good setup in Nuke and Davinci to match like ACES, but for now on Reddit, same, people complaining about color differences. I'll try to use the master AgX from github and put the "look" inside the file and see if it solve me this problem. If you have tips to solve this, I get them ;)
Great job, sir! This is not the first video I try to understand that AGX is better, yet your explaination about color sweep thing convinced me to switch to Blender 4.0. I'm grateful :))) subbed and liked
This is amazing and informative. BTW one thing as a science student, I think the X in AgX signifies Halogen compounds only. That being either one of Chlorine, Fluorine, Bromine, Iodine or Astatine.
Got a question. As soon as your original AgX series dropped I jumped ship from filmic to agx, but since then I've been fighting one specific issue: blackbody radiation, specifically for explosions. They simply don't look correct without a lot more tweaking, and it's somewhat annoying. The reds, oranges, and yellows all appear washed out, and yellow extremely so; meaning color grading can't really bring the bright yellows back easily... and even then, something just looks off. I read somewhere that the blackbody node needs a rewrite for some reason or another, and that got me thinking. Is it possible to create our own, physically correct, adjustable blackbody node, taking a temperature input and outputting a color? Even if the actual blackbody node in AgX is fine as it is, an adjustable one would be great for explosions and whatever else would need changing blackbody radiation temperature values.
Oh man. I really loved that 3 part series you did, I thought it was made quite well. Only now found out the videos it's been privated. Can't watch them as the links and embeds stopped working. Tis a shame. Perhaps, could you set those to 'unlisted' instead of completely unviewable?
I swear if Dehancer makes a plugin for blender/maya, the 3d world will blow up! or sumt idk, i just started blender last year coz i was bored with making videos lol
Hey Riley, loved the video. Any chance you could share the blender scene at the end. It's night and day different! I'm with you, the AGX render looked stunning
My goal in this video is to reframe so you understand the fallacy with the idea of “correct” or “incorrect” when it comes to color. I spend the majority of time in the video on that. The correct one is the one that works best for you and brings the results you like for your unique and valuable style. Sorry for the annoying answer 😉. “Which is correct” for my own work, in this moment is AgX. It offers the results I like, and is convenient and consistent to use. If you’re a beginner and not sure where to start, feel free to lean on that and use AgX. It’s a good option. Yes it’s possible to get aces into blender but I would say it’s not convenient, thus not widely used in blender specifically, so you’d be fighting a battle if you plan to collaborate with others.
@@rileyb3d ohhhh mannnn thank you for that clear explanation. Although these color things still confuses me even though i am a digital painter still I need to work on that much more. Btw thank you you did explain very well
Format = 11/10 Info = 11/10 Quality = 11/10 Surprise FX = 15/10 Now I"m afraid I just lost my soul in a trade-off of a colour management information video about blender, WORTH ! XD
Yes and no. A lot of the B-Roll is from the original 3 part series. I re-did the script to update some points, as well as condensed the previous 3 videos down to a single video. It's a re-work with some similar points.
Looks like I went overboard with the film grain effect.
I think it was just on the crop-ins. if you apply the grain after you do your crops, the grain size will stay a nice size :)
A fantastic explainer of what color is, as a psychophysical concept, and how AgX is different from Filmic as a view transform. Thanks Riley!
Gleb! Thanks for paying my channel a visit. Been watching your stuff for years and have loved your courses ♥

Just started using agx and agx log to fusion for compositing is 👍 👌
such beatufiul insights ! love your clarity in explanation and perception .. i can here here the stiumuls and response are coherent
This is too freaking cool. My brain wants more
Great summary on AgX! I've already been testing it in the beta and loving it. Can't wait to use it more.
Incredibly digestible primer on this technology; great work.
Top quality content with good editing thank you!
¡Gracias!
I´ve been subscribed for a year now and you never fail to amaze me with things I can do to keep improving! Thanks!

dude I love grains.
You seem like a super guy and a good person. You make great videos! Great work!
What an awesome video dude! chapeau!
I loved the description you have In your original agx series and this a more digestible version.
Great work as always.
Ive always gotten the best real life color accuracy using filmic

Great video. Thank you.
Btw
Is that Mike Oldfield in the background? Killing Fields?
You have an incredible amount of hair and beard hair
I haven't watched the video yet
Winter is coming. It gets pretty cold where I'm from! I'll most likely shed this winter coat come Spring.
You would be perfect for the role of Albus Dumbledore if Warner Bros. remade the Harry Potter movies.

Agx looks great but it turns pink on high values in my renders.

dankie
Great video, script and editing, I'd decrease/remove the grain in your video though, kinda distracting imho.
Sorry about that. It looked a bit different on my monitor 😅

did you write The You You Are, the book from Severance? you sound just like him! jk. but you do writr very well
