@@rileyb3d a tutorial on keeping low-poly quad faces from twisting (without requiring triangulation) would be amazingly helpful. (eg. A girder that turns less than 90 degrees). I'm not sure what the technical term is, but if you go into blender and extrude a face from a cube, then move that face in all 3 axes, some of the faces will be "twisted" - the 4 vertices will not be in the same plane. One face can be fixed by scaling to 0 along the normal, but that will push the other 3 faces out of alignment. Apologies if that's not super clear
This tutorial is very very good, I would love to see how you retopo messy object for games, I mean objects where the high poly shape is heavily influenced by sub d.
When you were using outset, you mentioned using it because its more even than a loopcut. But, when adding a loop cut, you could hit E for "even" which will match the edgeflow/profile of one of loops on either side of it. Hit F to flip which edge its even with and boom, an even loop cut.
Excellent beginner tutorial, Riley! It's great that you mentioned that n-gons are okay in some instances. I feel it's not said enough and a lot of beginners seem to think that any non-quads are to be avoided at all costs.
Excellent tutorial! But if i was making it instead of using a booleon and then cleaning up after that I would use a circle a with the same amount of verts as the border then delete the faces inside the border ,merge the circle with the mesh and bridge edgeloops. this cleans up the topology by itself is much faster and cleaner in my opinion
You sir Thankyou. I followed the video, this step really comes with a practice like he said. And got the error "Select two edge loops or a single closed edge loop from which two edge loops can be calculated". Cleaning it was a head banging task. Anyway thankyou.
I wish there were more equivalents of his videos in blender. His content is so useful. All I see people do in blender...just doesn't cut it for me with their approach
This is the way it is done - I see people build the polygonpen models and then claim they "made" it, only revealing where it is from when pressed. They could easily mention it up front(like in this video) but for some reason hide it until they no longer can. It is so weird. There is nothing wrong with learning from others and rebuilding what others have built - but just be up front about it.
I would make the round part without using boolean operations on the cylinder. Just select the area of polygons, make an Inset and apply the Loop Tools -> Circle. It will automatically create the desired topology for the circle and thus we will avoid the tedious adjustment of vertices and redirection of the topology. I’ll also add that if pinching and artifacts occur somewhere, then you can use the Shrinkwrap modifier in the vertex group mode, which will allow you to adjust not the entire object (when it is already ready), but only the part that needs to be changed. Thank you for the video!
although this works sometimes the circle doesnt quite work so I instead just delete the faces inside the area I want the circle to be and join the circle with the mesh then bridge edge loops
Excellent tutorial! I really appreciate your modeling approach and the detailed software operations. I hope to see more tutorials like this, and I am willing to pay for them. The 4K quality is also great
Polygonpen is my go to channel for subd modelling tutorials, he's really good at what he is doing, if we are familiar with blender and it's tools we can easily translate them using some work arounds. With that if you use the Kushiro Tools addons both paid and free will let you do some functions that native to cinema 4d but not blender✌✌
One of the best tutorials I've seen for Blender! When you started with the proportional editing I was like "Wait! It's not going to be a perfect circle anymore!" :D I'm an aspiring 3D artist too, so this is great. Now to study some nice product lighting setups.
after using lattice 2 times apply scale, choose circle edge and press Shift+Alt+S and drag the mouse untis shape if the neck will became round... method in the video is changing circle rotation and then second lattice deforms circle so it becomes assymetrycal and you cant use mirror modifier correctly
I rarely comment on any videos but I have to say the quality of this tutorial is so pleasing to watch. Thank you! +1 sub! Would love to see more of these product modeling workflow on blender!
This is such a good tutorial that avoids issues that I see in so many other tutorials. You explain everything, but do it concisely. You’ve obviously done a run through of what you’re explaining to achieve this. And, the pacing is not too fast or too slow. I know how hard it is to make a quality tutorial like this and respect your game. Subbed and will be looking at more of what you’ve made. 🫡
5:30 : I don't remember how the operator is called(or if I'm imagining it), but there's something like "select only outer edge". That should do quickly without the manual deselection :D I'll go check right now.
Something often missed when modelling cheap plastic moldings is that they're rarely perfect. Leaving some shading issues in can actually add to realism rather than detract. Obsessing over shading in this instance can be counter productive.
OMG, I'm the person who requested to Polygonpen guy to help me create this model cause I'm struggling a lot. As a beginner I don't know where to get help, and also as a Blender user, I'm grateful to see you do this tutorial. Thank you so much!!! Btw, do you have Discord sever? 😊😊😊
It's really frustrating that after so much work, the mirror modifier doesn't work correctly. I've been seeing what to do, and nothing (yes, I apply the scale, and yes, I did Shift + Alt + S).
Dear Riley, Please don't make the same mistake as POLYGONPEN. You need to enlarge the Blender UI to be readable on laptops. Otherwise the text on the menus are small and hard to read. Thanks

I've been using Blender for over four years and did NOT know you can outset something with the inset tool! Mind = blown.
it literally tells you at the bottom :D and that goes for every tool
Nice to see C4D and Blender community inspiring each other! ❤
That "Outset" shortcut is a nice tip, thanks for sharing.
Not gonna lie, Laundry detergent products are like the holy grail of modeling
You're honestly making some of the best tutorials I've ever seen. Even your voice and intonation is enjoyable.
Wow, thank you! 🙏🏻
Wow 2 minutes in and I’ve already learnt something new. I can’t believe I never knew what the lattice does
This is phenomenally helpful. I've been struggling to figure out how to model these kinds of precise but organic shapes. Thank you!
Great to hear! Keep me posted as you have requests for future models you want to see covered

I watched tons of video and courses, but nobody has never mentioned the outset tool! That is an amazing functions! Thank you!
I can’t believe I didn’t know Outset 🤯
Thanks for making this video. Your teaching style is excellent.
Honest the techniques I learnt in this 30 minutes video are mind-blowing. Secondly, thank you for the voiceover. Nigeria 🇳🇬 ❤
I also watch his videos all the time as topology and modelling can be translated between softwares, and his methodology is so good!
Your tutorials are top tier. Very pleasant to listen to & you explain everything very well.
Thanks for saying that! I do put a lot of effort into these, so that’s nice to hear.
Man! Such a solid all-rounder on best practices, thanks!
I've been waiting for a non symmetrical bottle tutorial for a loong time.
This was excellent, thank you.
A lot learnt in a short time.
One of the best tutorials I've seen in the many years I've been watching Tutorials. Great flow.
I had modeled this on blender watching the tut on cinema but this gave me lots of insights...great tut
Things I've learned from this vid: Dissolving (ctrl+x) / using knife tool to make new edges / auto merge with snapping.
This is the best tutorial I've seen for beginners.
tutorial exactly what i need. Thanks!
Wow, this the most helpful topology guide I’ve seen, extremely helpful
This "latus" thing looks pretty useful. Thanks für sharing your knowlegde❤
Latice in case you need to Google it
Your video is Blender poetry. I learned so much from this. Thank you!

Very impressive techniques Riley. Saving this to my Blender Library. Great job.
Love the edge flows.
amazing work
Thanks for the visit

Awesome tutorial
Superb, really technical, and clearly taught.
The tutorial video was very informative, I learned a lot today thanks to this video
Wonderful tutorial, I can’t wait for the UV unwrapping part! Maybe you can talk about some of the UV-packing addons as well.
Wowww! nice topology
amazing video, one of the best modeling tutorials i've seen in years! totally sending this one to my students, keep up with the hard work!
Thank you! That’s great to hear. Let me know if you come across objects or topics you want to see covered next.

at 5:50 there is an operation for that called "select boundary loop" its very good and I use it all the time
U just changed my perspective bout blender bru❤
Wow... Thank you for sharing this awesome video
Outset! Never heard of that. Thanks
Solved a problem that had been bothering me for a long time. Thanks!
First Time i have followed tutorial and practiced usually i do watch but not practice

Outset!! I had no idea that was a thing.... Thanks a lot!
Really helpful, pls consider doing more modelling tutorials on Blender
Thanks! I have a few more planned. Anything in particular you're hoping to see covered?
@@rileyb3d I'd love to see more product modeling and animation.
@@rileyb3d Yeah, I guess modelling complex shapes like a car, airplane or anything, I would love to see it!

Wow,these a perfect tutorial, amazing Thank you so much ❤
wow, i loved that
really lobe yout video like tuis, u have to create like this more!
Hi, great tutorial. When i apply looptools / circle, the hole stays elliptic but not circle. What am i doing wrong? thanks
Wow such a great tutorial, I really enjoy it, thank you very much!
Nice video, i think it doesnt matter where he does it tho, its about the techniques he uses

you're really good in teaching modeling. Make more PolygonPen in Blender Please!
This was great to watch
Yo man! Love your tuts, may I request some other shapes package please?

16:34 I'm sorry but what!?
I did not know you can do that. Thanks, man!
That’s some sexy topology. Great video 👌🏻
thanks for the tutorial man
sigue así, que estoy viendo a cuál membresía me adhiero. saludos desde Argentina,
Please make UV and Texturing part also
do you have any courses you recommend?
I'm having some trouble around 7:45 - what exactly is the sequence of hotkeys to get the vertices to snap together?
Nevermind - select vertex, then press G while clicking the vertex you want to snap to.
13:56 every time i hit apply my topology gets ruined. It look great in the preview, but the moment I apply the mofifier .. I don't get the problem
@ 3:37 whaen i apply loop tools it extrudes the mesh in z axis
Instead of snapping the points at 15:06 I'd suggest deleting the poly loop entirely and then bridging the 2 edge loops together. Much faster

Enseñas cómo aplicar materiales y trabajar con nodos???
instead of bool, just loop tools circle wfter you selected at the beggining
