have this radio love it, also have it remote mounted in my jk. keep in mind this is not your cb, this is a 50 watt radio that does produce lots of heat and has a active fan, and has 150 watt draw that u have going thru that relay every time u transmit on high power. also keep in mind that u have tons of electrical interference in that relay box. the ut 72g is a bangin lil antenna for the size of it, most r set for swrs outa the box but id check it to be sure, mine was at 1.1 straight outa the bag. if u every need a better antenna for reaching a lil farther i use the nagoya 771g mag mount on a tram uhf to nmo adapter on top of my roof rack and i can hit my semi local repeater since its about 40 miles away regularly.also make sure u blow out that fan on the monthly. i had my first one mounted on the dash and the bushing in the fan went out in 3 months. dont be afraid to look up your local 2m and 70cm repeaters and throw them in there since it has a wide rx.
I am actually installing a Yaesu ftm300 in my taco today. I’m actually using one of the underseat air compressor trays from desert does it to mount the radio body. It won’t slide or rattle at all that way;-)
Those are solid radios. Had one briefly and just sold it on eBay. Got a ham license and wanted dual band, but I really did like the 1000G. Curious to see how it holds up to our AZ summers in a hot truck.
Thanks for the tips! will be installing mine tomorrow onto the Taco Garage Multi Mount and using an MXTA26 antenna on the Cali Raise antenna bed-mount with the MXTA24 antenna cable. Any static noise from using the fuse panel? I was thinking about hooking it up to my Auxbeam switchpanel so I can turn on/off as needed, and not directly to the battery. The detachable faceplate is what sold me.
Thanks for the install instructions. Copied your method but instead of routing the coax to the rear passenger side sill panel, I instead routed it to the vent underneath the driver's seat.
Do you have trouble hearing the radio through the tiny mic speaker when you are driving? I'm probably going to run an external speaker with my KG 1000.
Nice install. I'm just wondering what to do with the coxial cable that's running down the rear window. I don't have a tent or campershell on the bed to hide the cable.
Hey quick tip if you add it to your cart after you create an account on buy two way radios they will allow you to order it on back order some guys recently were saying it shipped and arrived within a week or two. I know that they have a continual backorder waitlist but they fulfill them as soon as their shipments come in. So worth going that route rather than waiting for it to show in stock because it almost never is, just gets shipped out to all their waitlist as soon as they arrive. Hope this helps!
@@davidholmes4976 I hope it gets to you quickly! Enjoy it! @@AdventureBuilt I'm near I-17 and Jomax in north Phoenix. There is a Toyota in my neighborhood with an air vent run up on the roof. It looks like a serious off-road vehicle.
I have it pretty tight from the base on the roof to under the truck. I didn’t want is slapping against the back window when driving. I have it zip tied under the body to keep is tight. Then it’s a little slack into the cab. I have about 3’ of extra cable I have wound up under the cab.
I have the Wouxun KG1000g Plus using it as a base unit at home (utilizing two nodes), and, absolutely love it. I’m planning on buying the same radio for my 2024 GMC 25000 HD AT4… however, I’m gonna mount the head unit at the dash end of the console at the bottom [plus running the 17 ft connecting cable under one of the front seats to the main radio portal] for more stealth purposes …and, also, which brings me to a question I have: although your install is clean and looks very nice doesn’t your devices mounted where they are get heated up a lot by the magnified sun coming through the windshield? I know my GoPro does mounted in the same place as your Wouxun radio is and it’s a big problem with making bride-a-long videos. Very nice video! Safe travels! ~Jim @TOTALLY RELAXED!~ ruclips.net/user/TOTALLYRELAXED
Thank you very much. Yea I really like the radio, it’s a great design and good reach. Honestly haven’t had any issues with it overheating. I think since it’s pretty much just the display in the sun and the rest of the important radio is under the seat, no issues. Or I have just gotten lucky. Thanks again!!!
I sent mine back , the speakers sound so distorted , overmodulated , my hand help radios sound better . and the replacement has the same issue . horrible
Agreed. The radio should be the ONLY draw on the wire/circuit from the battery. Not only to not exceed the amp rating of the wire but to prevent signal interference. Hum or static may not always be apparent when receiving but can be heard by others when you transmit. In some rare cases, it can even limit your effective communication range. I use an interference filter and ferrite nodule on all my radios and other sensitive electronic gear in my rig.
That antenna is garbage. I had one for a while and couldn't figure out why my comms sucked so bad. Finally I watch notarubicon's comparison with it and saw how bad it did. I switched to a Ghost antenna and it's night and day.
@@AdventureBuilt nah, you just yank the lower panel (houses cigarette plugs), yank the AC controls, undo four bolts holding the stereo in, and it pulls right out. Seems like I have to do it all the time for various little installs.
Awesomeness!!! Was looking around for something like this and you nailed it dude 👊😎
Awesome! Thank you!

Will definitely do a follow up video with testing. The summer is here so won’t be long to test.
I have two of these. I'll put one in my truck and have the other one at the house for use as a base station.
Love my KG 1000 G, got them in both jeeps.
My speakers sound horrible does yours
@Joe Ruggs not too bad. But i do drive jeeps so i have an external hooked up on one side
Will you ever do a follow up on this video. Interested to see how the radio works in the field. Also how the antenna looks on the truck.
I definitely will. Trevor and I will be doing some Range testing and putting his midland up against this radio. Should be good.

Mic speaker is in the back of the mic and not so tiny.
Very helpful. Thank you.
You are very welcome!
You should check the SWRs on a radio install.
Yeah tha5s most likely why they couldn't get CB to work. CB will run circles around UHF if done right.

Home Depot sells some black cable clips with an adhesive backing. They work great.
I dig that head unit!
Thx bro!!!
I have been waiting on this to get back in stock. Looking to do the same thing and get rid of the Midland 40 watt mounted in my console.

That remote head unit is key.
Completely agree on both sides of that.
The cable to the head unit is not a coaxial cable. It’s pretty much a Cat5.
Great video! I can't get the darn front panel disconnected from the radio. So frustrating 😤

Has anyone else noticed that the A-side is louder and stronger than the B-side? I called towwayradios and did not get a reasonable answer.
I haven’t used the B Side. I’ll try it out on the next trip.

The speaker for the A side is larger than the speaker for the B side.
you shouldn't of connected the radio wine to the smaller wire because of the amp draw
