    I was blessed enough to get this recommended to me and I have to say, I love this video a lot so pardon the rant. I always love to see metal RUclipsrs be up and coming and I fully think that your energy and stripped back approach is more than welcome in this community and reminds me of some of my favorite RUclipsrs that got me into the niche to begin with.
    I've done videos in this niche for about seven years now, so I'm coming from a place of not only being surrounded with content but creating content about the niche itself; and progressively I've found that even less than the music, the community itself can be cannibalistic opinion-wise and, at points, its biggest enemy. The world operates in extremes now. You don't fit into a box (goes for both sides) and instantly, you're cast aside. And with the recent shit with Gojira at the Olympics or the Cannibal Corpse drama, it becomes more clear to me that while it does seem metal has become more watered down, the spirit is still very much there. You don't fuck with metalheads. And it doesn't matter who you are, where you come from or why--you are respected, you are treated like a brother or sister. People mind their own damn business because the whole point was to go against society.
    I feel like there is always going to be commercial viability and watering down. I just simply believe the social media age has made it far easier to dilute things for a mainstream audience, whereas popular metal bands of decades past were musicians first, popular second, not the other way around. Now bands play for the 'moment' that streamers/reaction channels make clickbait thumbnails based on. I have a massive critique for a lot of modern metal genres because of that very reason.
    But yes, I really appreciate this video. I've went on record a lot talking about counterculture in metal and why I don't like a lot of the stigmas and stereotypes. I think it sets EVERYTHING back. And that's coming from someone whose caught my fair share of hate and stereotypes simply for how I look or carry myself but like you said: Who the fuck cares?? You do what you want, you believe what you want. If you're not harming anyone, it's all in good fun and it's for the art. It comes with the territory.
    Dropped a sub and look forward to seeing more from you, my man. Much loves and cheers.

    • @Lunar_bloodreviews
      @Lunar_bloodreviews  4 месяца назад

      @TheMetalTempestYT I've heard of you, honored to have you sub! And I agree, social media has made it easy for people to really dilute any media. I mean look at old movies like Dogma and Animal House. Movies like that just wouldn't fly today with the jokes or portrayal.
      Every community, in my experience, is it's own worst enemy. Even subgenre communities. We, as a species, are the best at contradicting ourselves. I know I do.
      I'm a big fan of metal, even if I've really only been into the underground since covid. I'm glad people like you, Classylonniemetal, and The Dreadful minutes are accepting of yong people like myself getting into the underground. It reminds me that I can enjoy the music and not give a fuck what people think of my music taste.
      Much appreciate the support, friend! And don't worry, new videos are coming soon

    Back in 94 I was sitting in my high school History class and someone sitting behind me got up to walk to the teachers desk. As they did their foot clipped my Trapper Keeper and sent it spinning. My cd copy of Butchered At Birth flew out and slid across the floor to the cluster of preppy girls a few desks away! It took a few minutes for their appalled reactions to get shut down. One girl picked it up and took it to the teacher. It was the second year I had this teacher over 3 different classes. My grades were good and I was never disruptive in class so he looked at it, looked up at me, gave me a [Geez, man] expression whike shaking his head slightly. Then he held it out and asked me to put it away. Close call. Thought there would be a concern meeting at the principals office. But, nope. I did get looks and snarky comments from the "cool people" that thought i was a weirdo devil worshiper though. Good times with better music!

    I remember when the great southern trendkill was considered insanely brutal. Ilstill is to me. Alot of complaints about being triggered by something that comes from an article or some official capacity is usually less interested about the music and more about influencing the public. Ive noticed in recent years heavy music is making a comeback, maybe not enough to have a battle for ozzfest reality series, but enough that festivals are popular again.

    For some reason it's no I mean we reply to your comment. That's understandable. I've been listening to medals since I was 9. I'm 29 now. I started with Children of Bodom, Megadeth, Slayer, in most of the big 4. Then went into the German crowd with Kreator, Sodom Destruction, and so on. And honestly when it comes to the death metal genre, there's really nothing new. The genre kinda died out after 2008. Black metal these days has had a resurgence That's where you get bands like Midnight, Black braid, MGLA And a few others. Have to look ay that on your own time.

    • @Lunar_bloodreviews
      @Lunar_bloodreviews  5 месяцев назад +3

      @russellpreston1 I grew up on Mötley Crüe and a few Metallica and Maiden songs, etc. You know, the big names you'd hear on radio. Then I got more into Metallica, then Suicidal tendencies. Then in 10th grade, I found Kreator and Cannibal Corpse. And then I slowly descended to bands such as Haemorage, Torsofuck, Revenge, Archgoat. I guess what I was trying to get at is that bands, that even if they're underground, seem to struggle with their ideas because it seems a lot (especially in grind) tend to want to do what the fans want, but like you said I might be looking in the wrong places. Yeah I enjoy things like metalcore and deathcore but even those get stale after so many bands. (I usually listen to bands like Origin, Frozen Soul, and Haemorage vs. The deathcore scene)

    It's an inevitability and It happens to pretty much every medium. As metal became more popular, its audience broadened and it's expectations started to come from outside the community. People used to live black and death metal. Now it's a spectator sport. People who don't really care about it have just as much influence as those who do. Yeah sure there are still good bands but the scene as a whole has definitely been watered down.

    Metal is about as watered down as it’s always been. Sure if you look at the old legacy bands then of course they’ll be a shell of what they once were! They did their innovating in their time, but now a new wave of innovative artists are breaking through! Just look at Torture. And same goes for for deathcore/metalcore, those genres are admittedly watered down to the extreme but I’m seeing a lot of interesting brutal death, grind, and slam being released in recent years, that if you put more effort into exploring that scene, you’d be surprised with how much cool new stuff is to be found

    • @Lunar_bloodreviews
      @Lunar_bloodreviews  5 месяцев назад +1

      @zbox6420 I'm somewhat familiar with grind and slam and bdm I just don't always listen to those. Sure I can throw on Torsofuck, Torture, Torture rack, maybe Brand of Sacrifice or Paleface, and I get my fix. But look at what I call Infant Shore clones *bands that sound similar to Infant annihilator and Lorna Shore* there's only a few I can really tolerate before just getting bored with the same old techniques. However, some take that as I'm hard to satisfy. No, I just don't want 100 bands trying to out do 1 another. Variety is key.
      For example I love Cannibal Corpse. I also enjoy Frozen soul. But, neither one feels boring because the lyrics aren't the main focus. It seems so many bands are focused on the lyrics of a song that all else is...just the same shit? If that makes any sense.

    • @zbox6420
      @zbox6420 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@Lunar_bloodreviews yeah I hate bands that focus on lyrics more than writing a damn song. And yeah variety is def key, but most underground stuff you’ll find is pretty terrible and derivative. It doesn’t mean you’re hard to please, it’s just how art is. Above or underground, there is usually only a couple good artist surrounded by shit. The terrible art has always outnumbered the good stuff by a huge margin, so don’t thing that this music is dying, is losing faith in it will kill it for sure tho

    I've been in the metal community for about 20 years now, I don't see what you're driving at. Especially when you go into the black metal band new age Speed metal bands like Midnight. I'll be honest, no one is Saying much of anything about cannibal corpse in the way you're talking about. To be honest, they've kind of been irrelevant since the turn of the 21st century they don't have the amount of staying power like say the band Death had. Don't get me wrong, they've still known and have a fan base, but nowhere near the level of recognition of other death metal bands. Metal can be about individuality, It's more so about finding community though. To be frank, If you think metal is being watered down, you're not looking in the right places. So true.
      There was certainly a very politically correct vibe in a few circles back then as well, especially Katherine Ludwig in the 90s who was the editor of Metal Maniacs at one point and she championed any and every Death Metal act that wrote socially conscience lyrics, etc and she almost blacklisted entirely the Norwegian Black Metal bands beginning to gain notoriety.
      They always had backhanded disclaimers following any write-ups on bands like Emperor or Burzum, etc.
