I still think Arise is Sepultura's crowning achievement. The songwriting, musicianship and production were just firing on all cylinders. And it brought fans of thrash and death metal together. Just a timeless album.
@@FreeIndeed72 definitely. A nice thing about a lot of death and thrash bands is that they acknowledged their punk and hardcore influences even though punk and hardcore musicians might have been a bit more reluctant to say the same.
Sepultura, the legendary Brazilian metal band, got their name in a pretty dark and poetic way. Max Cavalera, one of the founding members, found inspiration from the lyrics of the Motörhead song "Dancing on Your Grave." While reading the song's lyrics, the word "grave" stood out to him. Wanting a Portuguese equivalent, he translated it to "Sepultura," which means "grave" or "tomb" in Portuguese. The name perfectly suited their aggressive and heavy style, as well as their themes that often explore dark, intense, and socially charged subjects. It also reflects the gritty environment and struggles of their early days in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Cool mix of poetic and brutality
