      @@shawtdusanshawt the exercises in this video alone should be enough, but I also had my physiotherapist do massage therapy to speed up the process.
      I did these exercises every morning, so once per day. I would wake up, wash my face then do these as the first thing of the day; from Monday to Friday, and rest on the weekend (my physiotherapist told me it would be better if I could do on weekend as well).
      I do these like this: Raise my eyebrow with the help of your hand for 3 seconds, rest for 1-2 seconds, repeat for 30s. Rest a bit if you feel tired, then to the next exercise. A 30min session of these exercises should make you feel dead tired after.

    • @katephysiotherapistwithbraid
      @katephysiotherapistwithbraid  Год назад +47

      Hello, that is an excellent question. The reason why I recommend starting exercise after about 2 weeks is physiology. For the first dozen or so days after the Bell's palsy, the nerve is practically completely paralyzed, i.e. it is impossible to make almost any movement with the affected side of the face. If at this point you try to force movement by exercising in front of a mirror, your brain will systematically send information to muscles that will not respond and will not give positive feedback. It is completely different when nerve conduction begins to return (which usually happens after about 2 weeks). Then you only support the movement of the muscle to which the impulses are already reaching, which gives the appropriate feedback to the brain.
      In addition, the muscles of our face usually work symmetrically. If you force a movement too much, with one side completely paralyzed - the other (unaffected) side will be more stimulated. This leads to a very dangerous, pathological distribution of muscle tension. In my experience, Patients who start rapid, intensive rehabilitation through exercise from the first day after paralysis, more often develop synkinesis. That is why I personally recommend that you start exercising only when you see at least the slightest active movement of a given muscle.
      Have a great day!

I was on ventilator for 18 days and was in hospital for almost 2 months. It took me 4 months to completely recover. Now i have bilateral facial palsy. I have done NCS test several times and it shows that my facial nerves are almost recovered. Right now i cant laugh properly and dont have proper expressions. My facial muscles are weak. I was diagonised with Bell's Palsy about 3 weeks ago. Today I'm 90% cured. Dear Bell's palsy warriors, don't be upset, it will be ok. The only thing you need to do is being consistent. Do the facial nerve stimulation treatment consistently in physiotherapy section, and also along with that do facial exercise atleast 3 times a day, take your medicines on time and eat healthy food.
    At the beginning of 2 week sometimes you feel no change and it will make you desperation.. But its ok 'TRUST THE PROCESS'..At the end you will be Ok..
    And also the main point to remember is, if you don't feel any changes in your facial expression even after two weeks. Ask your phsiotherapist to stick tape on the affected side of your face to stretch the muscles, by using this tape technique our facial expression can improve eventually. This technique helped me a lot to improve my facial expression.

My eye side, upper and lower lips side (When I say E) and my nose side (when I am in the position of bad smell) is not much improving, Please recommend me which exercise can heal my those areas completely.

    • @katephysiotherapistwithbraid
      @katephysiotherapistwithbraid  Год назад +9

      Hello. I know that 3 weeks seems a long time for you, but it's really just the beginning of recovery time in Bell's palsy. It usually starts to improve in 2 weeks but may take 3 to even 6 months to return to normal. Although it's very difficult, you just have to be patient.
      At this stage it is very important that any movement of the paralyzed muscle begins to occur. If you see at least minimal movement, that's great news. This means that the impulses are correctly transmitted to the muscle. You don't have to make a complete move like on the non-affected side - a minimal muscle twitch will be a reason to be satisfied at this stage.
      If you want the exercises to be individually tailored to your condition - consult a physiotherapist in your area. From what you describe, exercises should focus on the muscles surrounding the mouth, in particular those that lift the corners of the mouth to the side and up (smiling face, grinning - especially the upper jaw, pronouncing sounds like EEE, SSS). It will also be helpful to practice sounds in which the tongue rests on the upper palate, such as LLL). Pay attention to the symmetry of the face when practicing and help the affected side achieve symmetry with the help of the hand. And as I mention in the video, don't overload your muscles.
      I am keeping my fingers crossed for your recovery!

      First of all, try to stay calm, because most cases of Bell's Palsy heal completely within a few weeks. Remember not to cool your head and neck - if you live in a cold climate, wear a hat and a scarf. If you already see that the movements of the paralyzed part of the face are coming back - as I mention in the video, you can start doing the exercises. Be careful not to overwork your muscles. Of course, follow your doctor's instructions, if your doctor has prescribed any medications for you, you should take them. I keep my fingers crossed for you!

    • @katephysiotherapistwithbraid
      @katephysiotherapistwithbraid  3 месяца назад

      Hello, you should see at least minimal movement of the muscle (in every exercise). For example, if you are doing a smiling face and you see that the corner of the mouth on the affected side is slightly raising, you can safely exercise, because it means that the nerve pathway is open.
      If you are not sure whether there is minimal movement, you can stabilize the non-injured side and then try. However, we perform the exercises without stabilizing the healthy side.

      Same here, I have this condition since 23.02. Some commented here that they haven't recovered after 3 or 5 months, even 9 years. Frightful :(

    Can I do these exercise on my 1st week?

    • @katephysiotherapistwithbraid
      @katephysiotherapistwithbraid  4 месяца назад +1

      Hello, in first week rather not, because muscle contraction function usually does not return at this time. Typically, the first signs of return of function are seen in the 2nd week. You can check this by stabilizing the non-affected part of the face to see if movement occurs on the affected side. Then you have the green light to exercise.
      From my experience, Patients who start exercising too quickly and too intensely have a greater tendency to develop synkinesis.

      @@katephysiotherapistwithbraid So far i dont have that Synkinesis.. Better to stop exercise for now.. Can I do hot compress in it or not?

    • @katephysiotherapistwithbraid
      @katephysiotherapistwithbraid  4 месяца назад +1

      @@Conqueror00001Hot compresses has nothing to do with exercises, you can do it, sure. As for exercises, we start them when we see at least minimal muscle contraction. This means that if you do not see any reaction on the affected side when you try to perform a given movement, wait and try it the next day. And so on until you notice that the muscles contract slightly. Then you can start exercising in series, with larger numbers of repetitions.
      Why is it like that? because there is no point in sending information from the brain to the muscle if the nerve path is completely "impassable" (there is no contraction). Only when minimal contraction occurs does it make sense to help and facilitate a given movement.
