    I love your suggestion of pulling everything out and looking at it then decide what you need to keep and what can go. I’m going to try it! I’ll let you know how it goes.

    When I got married in 1984 my aunt insisted on giving us a set of crystal glasses (possibly lead crystal?). We never used them and they sat in my cabinet. I finally gave them away 2 years ago at our last garage sale. Don’t miss them at all.

    That's why there are small appliance covers that keep them clean and dust free when they must stay on countertops due to weight and lack of storage places between uses. Covers can be as customized as sewing from a purchased pattern, or as simple as a terry or linen dishtowel.

    • @tphillips37
      @tphillips37 3 года назад +2

      True, but it still comes down to are you using this appliance? I love my retro look mixer, but it's rarely used and a cover was kind of ugly, so I finally put it the cabinet under the counter. I can get it out when I need it. Now my toaster is used nearly everyday so I put a folded dish pad on top of it, the color goes with my kitchen colors, and one of my fat chef figures sits on top. It's in the corner of the cabinet and looks cute - and no dust gets in!

    Thank you. You make so much sense. I am struggling with decluttering. I'm 71 and don't want to leave my kids with all this stuff to deal with. You've given me a new way to look at things. I'm finally going to move forward.

      I don't want my family to have to clean up my clutter either. My mother had to go into assisted living and when we cleaned out her house a lot of stuff got dumped at my house. I already had my own clutter.

    I can’t thank you enough. I have lots of cake decorating tools. I’m not kidding, Lots! And cake pans.
    I have had arthritis pain in my hands for five years. I just haven’t been able to get rid of any of the cake decorating tools. But the doctor said to stay away from them because of my arthritis. He said the squeezing would make the arthritis worse. Arthritis is a degenerative disease
    But your question about how would I feel while using the tools, pain!!! I’m not yet able to get rid of everything, but I did go through a good deal of my least favorite things. I got rid of things I don’t remember how to use, and some things that would cause the most pain. I don’t see myself as squeezing fondant!!
    I was able to add them to a donation that was picked up today. I am very grateful for the extra space. Now I can play checkers and use the space more efficient for something else
    Thank you! I am a new subscriber

      I'm so glad to hear that Judy! It's hard when decluttering things like that, it means we have to work through the feelings and being done with that season of life, and that is definitely emotional work. ❤️

    When we decluttered the kitchen, things we need but only use one or two times a year (mostly entertaining items like platters, buffet pans, serving tongs, etc.) - I moved to shelving in the garage, wrapped in plastic, that way we have when needed, but it's not taking up space inside!

  • @jessieelliott3157

    Thanks for the great video. I'm enjoying watching them all. I always thought I needed a kitchen aide mix master type appliance, but in reality I have gotten by without one. Been married over 20 years and made plenty of cakes with a whisk, a spoon and a bowl. I think we can get by easily and with less clutter without such big chunky expensive equipment. I have a very small kitchen and cook a lot. I think it's a bit if a lie that we've been told we need all this stuff and all this storage. Its simpler and easier without.

    These are ALL really good tips! One of them that touched home for me was the china! I have so many heirlooms from my husband's side of the family, I've only ever bought 2 major pieces of furniture in our 30 yrs of marriage. Part of me would like to let the china go, but the other part wants to keep it in the family, as are the wishes of the family, and because they're high quality, but I haven't used them in years and I don't think my daughters want them...that's the kind of stuff that hangs me up!

    • @Nourishingminimalism
      @Nourishingminimalism  3 года назад +3

      I totally get that! I figure if my kids don't want them, and other members of the family don't want them to use or aren't willing to store them, then I don't need to feel bad letting them go.

    Question about when you retire. Your priorities are going to change. You will be surprised by some of those changes. Decluttering leaves room in your life, your time and your schedule for those changes and priorities.

    Hi. I just subscibed to your chanel. I really like your authentic approach to decluttering. Just a little feedback from me: Maybe you can speak a little slower and with a lower voice. It was a bit hard to understand you at the beginning of your video. 🌹

      Hey Dominique! For those of us who need someone to slow down when they talk (or to pick up the pace which is my preference!), RUclips lets you control a video's playback speed!!!
      Here's how you do that...
      1. Start the video.
      2. Click on the 3 dots in the upper right-hand corner.
      3. Choose "playback".
      4. Now choose the slower (or faster!) speed that works for you.
      This function is a game changer!!!

    • @findingaway5512
      @findingaway5512 3 года назад +3

      I love fast talkers! The ones that are slower are harder for me to follow. I love that you can adjust speeds.

    • @Izabela-ek5nh
      @Izabela-ek5nh 3 года назад +1

      This is perfect speed for me. When someone is slllooow it makes my mind wander and I loose focus. One can never please everybody :)
