Wunderlich Electric Sat Nav Lock for BMW R1200RT R1250RT & How to fit GPS Navigation Security.

  • In this video I show how to fit the Wunderlich electronic sat nav lock which is powered from piggy backing the central locking on either a BMW R1200RT or the R1250RT.
    I show the tools required and which parts of the motorcycle you need to remove to fit the lock and route the cabling to power the device.
    This particular lock works on all BMW R1200RT's and R1250RT's from 2014 onwards but must have central locking to work.
    When fitted it locks your Garmin Navigator 5 or Navigator 6 by simply pressing your central locking button and can remain locked either when your on your bike riding or when you leave the bike.

    One of the BEST Instructional videos I’ve seen on RUclips!! Filmed and explained brilliantly so that even I can understand. 🤣 Still on the fence about paying for something that should have been included with the basic sale of the bike. But thank you for taking the time to post this video!!! Cheers 🥂/🍻

    This is probably the best instructional video I've ever watched. I'm using the Garmin Zumo XT on my 1250 RT with the Italian adapter plate. I see no reason why the lock won't work with this combination so I'll probably get one because it's a pain in the ass to have to keep detaching the nav every time I leave the bike (as it doesn't fit in my pocket). As you say, BMW should have fitted one as standard, especially as the nav is too big to go into either of the cubby holes! Anything made by Wonderlich is over-priced so I'm not surprised it costs £150. At least I won't have to pay somebody to fit it having watched your video. Cheers!

I’ve just fitted the kit to my RT and your step by step guide was very useful especially as it gave me the courage to pull that bit harder on the plastic bits knowing it would come off without me breaking something! Nice vid Steve. I was gonna buy the very same mechanism from NN for my RT, but in the end I sold the Nav VI and bought the adapter that plugs into the sat nav port on the RT, to then allow me to use my phone instead. I got sick to death of spending hours planning trips away to follow specific roads, only for the Garmin to reroute itself once on the road. If we had to make a detour or got lost, it never seemed to get us back to the specific route we'd planned. I spent ages changing settings as advised by both Garmin and other users, and tried using BaseCamp ( don't get me started on that garbage)
    I now use my phone with MyRouteApp Navigation, and would you believe that occasionally, that does exactly the same as the Garmin did !!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
    Hope you're loving the newer RT, great bikes.

    Hi (again) Steve, not sure which other bits you are thinking of getting for the new steed, but I have cylinder head guards not bars from sw motech, since which I have found them much cheaper on Ali express, they do bars on there if that is what you are thinking of, also check out HEED on ebay, I've also fitted bumper protectors on the bags where they would touch down, and the wunderlich racks for the top of the bags to strap the waterproofs onto as we tour 2 up, also if you go for a tank ring and have keyless ignition, becareful how tight you do the screws up it can stop the tanklid opening, ride safe

    Really well presented video and a thumbs up for the content. I just wandered in the scenario where you are at the lights, what stops the thief from pressing your central locking button to unlock all the locks before releasing the sat Nav?
    I understand this is ok with the ignition off and potentially unattended but just concerned with how easy it is to unlock the central locking with ignition on and a small amount of knowledge.
    In no way knocking your vid as it was one of the best how to fit and not being negative

    • @Steve-Clark
      @Steve-Clark  2 года назад

      Thanks for bursting my bubble Andy 🤣 but would think an opportunist would go straight for the release button and not the central locking, and if they did go for the central locking first would hope it would give me enough time to react before he followed with the release button and sat nav grab 🤔 you can't make anything 100% secure these days but you can make it harder 👍 Ride Safe my friend.
