Ilium Works Engine Guard Bar System for the R1250RTW (water cooled). Made from 1" dia. heavy wall steel tube, TIG welded and powder coated for years of trouble free service. Stronger than thinner wall stainless steel, with no strength reducing deformations to the tube contours. 3/4" dia., powder coated, solid steel, cross bar tying the two sides together for increased rigidity. All hardware is stainless steel. Provides a solid foundation for mounting Highway Pegs and auxiliary lighting. Designed to help protect vulnerable valve covers, cylinder heads, exhaust pipes and body work in the event that the bike goes down.

Ilium works is an outstanding company. Their side protection bars work well on my 2020 RT. The bars also double as convenient mounting for lights. John did an outstanding job of design and installation of the bars.

I watched their video of dropping the bike with guards on. I was traumatized when the bike hit the ground. The bars did their job! I have a set of bars on my 2018RT. HOPEFULLY NEVER HAVE TO USE THEM!!!

Maybe these are better. I saw a review where a Wunderlich user complained about the guards touching the ground BEFORE the foot pegs in corners, this is a critical safety issue which can lead to a very serious accident.
