Remind me of a friend of my mom, she's a Japanese that married to a Malaysian. Her MIL is Hakka. In the early days of her marriage when she doesn't know any Chinese, she somehow end up quarrelling with her MIL even though both of them don't speak the other language. And yet they can still end up in a quarrel with 1 speaking Hakka and the other in Japanese 😅
So in short, she married to a Chinese Malaysian. I thought Chinese and Japanese aren't on good terms because of some history. When I heard of Malaysian, I would usually think of Malay. And Malaysia is a multi-racial country, I thought it would be better for them to converse in English.

They were from the older generation, so the MIL only know Hakka and the DIL only know Japanese 😅. Even though Malaysia is a multi racial country, not everyone can converse in English
