  • LG washer makes a grinding noise and doesn’t drain? This is a very typical LG washer drain issue. Your washer sounds like it is about to take off and it is full of water. This bad washer noise while draining is indeed a scary one.
    So when the LG washer makes noise and won’t drain it will display an OE error code which means it has an issue with the drain pump.
    Please check the filter first and see if it is clean. Then check the drain pump impeller by rotating it with your finger or pen or screwdriver. If nothing is stuck in the drain pump area it means that your LG washer drain pump failed.
    In order to fix this issue with the LG washer makes noise or lg washer makes a weird noise and won’t drain you need drain pump replacement. If this issue with your LG washer makes a grinding sound and won’t drain is the only problem with the washing machine it is worth fixing. Techvill Appliance Repair will charge 250 - 350 CAD (200-280 USD) for this job (diagnostic, parts, labor included) here in Calgary.

      Hi Gene, thanks for watching and thanks for the question. It seems like the pump issue. But start with inspecting the drain filter and see if something is stuck in there first. If it is clean then most likely you need to replace the pump.

    5yr old LG washer dryer combo. Bought in 2017 replaced 1st pump in 2019. Just replaced drainpump #8 the other day.. Got the OE code the first 2 pumps and never again . I've run diagnostics every time before I've changed pumps and no codes ahow up. The fist pump had a cracked impeller. A few months later the OE code came up. Replaced the pump, machine worked good. Never got the code again. But the pump would make a terrible grinding noise still work for a few months, and then we would have soaking wet laundry in the machine. Replaced pump again work fine sounded quiet. It seems to do this about every 6 months. Yesterday I took all 7 old pumps apart. Had 1 with alot of dirt and lint inside it. 1 with alot of water, and 1 with water and thick oil. All inside the motors . The other 4 all had cracked, crooked and/orworn blue expelled. These where all bought off Amazon. Will a pump directly from LG be better . 7 pumps in about 3 1/2 years is to many. I hope this makes sense to you. And any advise would be appreciated.

      Hi Joe, thanks for watching and thanks for the question. This is exactly the reason why we don’t buy aftermarket parts. You save $30-$50 on the part but waste 1-1,5 hour of your life :) . Just buy a pump from LG and it should be good for 3-7 years on average.

    There is an intermittent grinding sound when the pump activates on occasion. Which will trigger an OE warning (water not draining)
    Filter clear. Drain tubes all checked over and fine as far as I can see.
    Approx 10 years of use, but fundamentally everything is fine on the machine apart from this.

    Just bought a cheaper Chinese (Hisense) washing machine. It works quiet and calm, revving sounds like a Tesla car and I like that, BUT the drain pump has a worse and louder sound than my old deceased Candy. Is there a soundproofing trick, or replacing the pump with another manufacturer?

      Hi Tomislav, thanks for watching and thanks for the question. I don’t recommend to replace the pump with another manufacturer. As for the noise same thing. If there is no sound reduction kit installed by manufacturer I would not apply any workaround. Just watch that till the washer is still in warranty and if you see things are getting worse call manufacturer and request assessment and replacement of the pump.

    with a double pump. It was washing then went on to rinse and was getting stuck or counting down but not draining…. There was nothing in it. So we ordered a new pump is that the problem do you think ? Was sounding rough funny grinding sound from the pump then just suddenly stopped. Was suds locking a lot yesterday and draining slow… but nothing in it when I took the back off and the pipes and the filter it has rust so I assume it’s had it. Today I went to put in a load of wash and it just continued to load water until I finally unplug the machine and turn the water valvesOn the wall to the off position. Also when I shut the machine to drain I just engaging the spin cycle I hear grinding water is spilling out the bottom of the machine I have checked the basket below and tried to drain the black pipe a lot of black debris came out of the black pipe when I first uncorked it.

      @techvillappliancerepair3825  Год назад

      Hi Anita, thanks for watching and thanks for the question. As far as I understand there are two issues in here: first is with a water valves/main board. We need to see which valve bypassing the water and replace it, if both- more likely main board issue.
      At the same time there is an issue with a drain system. It’s better to clean/rinse it but knowing that drain pump for the LG is a common issue probably this part would need to be replaced as well.

    I have an LG model WM1812CW, S/N 05634. I'm not sure on the age as it was given to me 3 years ago from a friend who upgraded his washer. The drain pump is making the exact same noise as in your video. Online, the pump looks to sell for around 50 USD. I've also repaired the door gasket once already when it had a small tear using a bicycle repair kit.
    Do you think it is time to replace the washer or, if the pump is replaced, do you think I'll get a few more years out of it? Its full S/N is 503W 05634 so I think that means it was made in March, 2005.

    • @techvillappliancerepair3825
      @techvillappliancerepair3825  2 года назад

      Thanks for watching and thanks for the question. If you got this washer for free it seems like you have some room to invest to repair. The teared gasket is a sign that it is getting older however if you are gentle with the washer and use a couple of times a week, if you don't overload it can easy serve you another 2-3 years. And if you can replace the pump by your self then it is definitely much cheaper than buying a new washer. Still nobody can guarantee you that this washer will not die on you next month.

Make sure your shaking out your clothes before putting them in the washer and your cleaning the washer with the special cleaner. That should extend the life of your pump.
