The CLA 250e has USB-C ports and if you don’t have a USB-C to Lightning cable, the dongle above converts it from USB-C to USB. Then you just use your existing to plug in 🤓

Ah no it won’t, Apple CarPlay is a replacement for the in built multimedia system. When it’s running, it kind of goes into a suspended state until you unplug the phone 🤓

My SL has Apple Carplay which I was pretty excited about and switched on pretty much straight away, but I soon cancelled it. I like the functionality very much but it has one very major flaw. If you have the Harmon Kardon hifi upgrade it has a surround sound option that sounds great. However, activate Apple Carplay and it kills it - you're straight back to standard stereo (presumably because the phone is set up to work with headphones, hence only capable of two channel sound). Likewise other stereo controls such as the tone controls are gone. It's a shame because it's a good system otherwise. Great review though, well done!

It's been a little while since I've used Apple CarPlay on an SL directly but I remember coming across that issue. I've had Harmon Kardon on a Mercedes-Benz before (unfortunately not an SL though) and it was absolutely stunning. I miss it even to this day.
However, if I remember try going to the Mercedes icon when on Apple CarPlay and you might be able to go to 'Sound' at the bottom right of the screen and turn on Logic 7 to give you that surround sound. If that doesn't work, try unplugging your iPhone and see if 'Sound' is there again on the bottom right.
Third and final option would be to use the EQ settings on the phone, not ideal but it'll make it sound better!

Hey Nick ... thanks for sharing the very informational video, I am running into problems while using the apple CarPlay with my GLB as when I used Android I used to get the Navigation feature on my driver side console in the center display option but for some reason that is not happening from the time I am using apple car play and have tried that with both Apple Maps as well as Google maps. And it keeps giving an error saying insets map media. Not sure if there is a setting that I need to change to get this activated as that was quite handy while driving!!! Hoping u could help

Ah they we go! It’s cool but just bear in mind that Apple CarPlay doesn’t fill the entire MBUX screen. Oh and you need to plug it in.
Not a bad thing though, get a charged phone when you arrive!

I have set read aloud live traffic announcements. However, no live announcements such as tailbacks are received. Why am I not receiving live traffic announcements in my Mercedes 2020 e450 sedan? Please help!
Hi Mary if you’ve enabled the “TA” symbol at the top of the screen, those announce when the radio stations broadcast them. Usually here in the UK it’s every hour.

I don’t see a TA symbol. Do I need to tune to a specific radio station? I’m usually tuned to media music. Secondly this is a 2020 model why doesn’t it have the MBUX feature and a browser?

Thanks for this video. Quick question, if you have the digital dash (behind the wheel) and you’re using Apple car play and say Google Maps, can the navigation be behind the wheel just like it is when you use the Mercedes navigation system?
Sadly no as Apple CarPlay only goes to the screen in the middle…however…I have heard that future models might be able to take advantage of this so you never know in a few years time, we might see some tech that can do just that!

I have a question for you, if that’s ok?
When I’ve got my radio on (C Class 2019) the Traffic Alerts often cut in and more often than not aren’t relevant for the route of my daily commute. How do I cancel TA’s to quickly return to the station (or music on my USB Stick) I was listening to?
On my previous 2016 C Class, all I had to do was press the mute button on the steering wheel and it would cancel the TA and return me to the radio station I was listening to. I can’t seem to do it on my new car?

Awesome glad you liked the video!
The TA with the mute button should still work it hasn't been taken away! The volume rocker switch can be pressed to mute if you didn't know. Just hold the volume button in. This applies to the one next to the multifunction wheel in the centre console and on the steering wheel.

I am debating between GLC AMG Line and GLC AMG Line Premium. I am aware that the AMG Line does not have AppleCar Play/ Android Auto
1. Is Apple Car Play necessary? Do i need google maps/ Waze or is the mercedes navigation good enough?
2. I assume I can listen to spotify via bluetooth. Will the sensors and the mercedes navigation still come through the speakers even when my phone is connected? Both models have front and rear parking sensors I assume
3. In the brochure, the AMG Line Premium comes with 'the mercedes sound system' what system does the 'AMG Line' come with? Is there a major difference? I know upper echelon models come with the Burmester but i am choosing between AMG Line and AMG Line Premium

I'd say Premium is well worth the upgrade as it adds a whole host of features. Of course it will be more expensive but, for what you get I think it's totally worth it.
In answer to your questions:
1) It's not necessary at all no. I love it to pieces but it's what works for you. For me it works brilliantly as I use Apple Music, my Apple calendar, reminders and either Apple Maps or Google Maps. However MBUX is one of the most advanced navigation pieces of software out there and it's amazing what it can do. It's so simple to use. I guess it depends how much of an Apple fan you are and if you want it shown in the car! 🤓 Just bear in mind, even if you went for AMG Line on it's own, you can add Apple CarPlay by a remote software upgrade for £299 after you've taken delivery.
Note: Apple CarPlay does not fill the entire screen of MBUX: images.app.goo.gl/SjBqFrfQHJJpQtfV6
That's just the way it has been designed.
2) Of course you can, just bear in mind as Spotify is not the native app on your phone, you will be limited to changing the track forwards and backwards over Bluetooth. You won't be able to browse albums you've saved or playlists etc on the car screen. If you did have Apple CarPlay then you would be able to do this.
3) All Mercedes-Benz sound systems are great but there are few options depending on how you'd want the music to sound and of course how the clarity is at loud volumes. For specifics:
Mercedes-Benz sound system (225 W) - four mid-range speakers, 2 tweeters, 2 frontbass speakers, 1 centre speaker and 225 W amplifier output.
Without getting too technical, basically means it can turned up louder without crackling and offers greater clarity as there are separate speakers to do the job.
Burmester goes a step further and each sound system is independently tested and tailor-made to each car and the stats are even better than above.

Hello Nick, great video, as always! Thanks! I have a question: How to disable iPhone Autoplay in MBUX? As soon as I get in the car, it connects to iPhone via Bluetooth and then MBUX makes it start playing the first song on my phone automatically. How to disable MBUX doesn't start any music on the start? Many Thanks!
Hey Serhiy, most cars will do this so it’s not a thing on MBUX. Best thing to do is to select something else on the screen. If you want it starting in silence, press MEDIA then tap USB. This way as long as you don’t have something with media plugged into the USB ports then it won’t play anything when you start up

Unfortunately Apple CarPlay is wired only in all Mercedes-Benz vehicles, there is no option for wireless at the moment. I don't know if this will change in the future though but i haven't heard anything yet.
Hi Nick. I have recently bought an A200 AMG Premium Line. I was originally thinking I would use Apple Car play but see that it is a £299 downloadable option, (a bit cheeky I think since its available on way cheaper cars as standard). I am however struggling to see what extra it would give me other than internet access through my phone. Can you a put the Apple Play on the main instrument screen in full screen ? It would be handy with WAZE for example whilst having the Apple screen on the media screen.

Well it’s up to you really if you want to use Apple CarPlay or not. If you’re an Apple fan then you might like it! I wouldn’t say it’s cheeky though, each manufacture tries to balance spec, price and ease of use. Some offer Apple CarPlay as standard where as some it’s an option.
One thing to note they are completely separate, you cannot do half and half. You either have MBUX on the screen or you have Apple CarPlay. When Apple CarPlay is running the MBUX system just switches almost into standby mode and let’s Apple CarPlay take over.

The menu item comfort should only show if you have Ambient Lighting which in the UK spec is on the Premium Package. Do you know if you have that one?

I'd love to! Although I have considered this, it's a tricky one to do as there are 35 models in Mercedes-Benz each upgraded sound system is tailor made to each model.
In new cars, from experience all sounds systems are great it just depends on the sound clarity and how loud you'd like it go. The upgraded systems such as "Midline sound system" are very clear but if you're a real audio enthusiast then go for the branded sound system if it's available and it won't disappoint!
Take the C-Class for example:
Midline sound system: 225 W amplifier output
Burmester surround sound system - 13 speakers and a 9-channel amplifier with total output of 590W (7× 50W and 2 ×120 W)

MBUX is designed this way and it’s been like it since 2018 when it launched. This video was recorded on COMAND which is the previous system so it’s different.

I have a Mercedes A180D with MBUX and coupled a 2tb harddisk on in with a lot of music en video’s.
Music works very nice on my Mercedes.
And I understand that because of safety reasons you can’t play video’s.
But my child has a iPad at the back.
Is there a way when I couple the iPad on another USB port that she can watch the video’s that is on my harddisk?

Hey Janko, unfortunately no iPad’s just like all Apple products are very restrictive in terms of mirroring their screens to other screens.
The only way is via the USB ports if your Mercedes is capable of playing videos but then of course it would grey out when on the move.
Please share your thoughts, expectations about the new ios14, will it be able to unlock the doors, start engine using NFC without the services of "Mercedes me"?

I actually watched the Apple WWDC live so am super excited about iOS 14!
However, as it’s a WWDC (World Wide Developers Conference), it is aimed at developers so the things announced will take time to become available.
The Apple Car Key feature sounds amazing and I can’t wait for car manufacturers including Mercedes-Benz to implement that. However you will have to bear with them, it is quite likely that if Mercedes-Benz start to design and adopt the NFC unlock feature it will be a while before it comes out for everyone to use and will more than likely only be on new cars with NFC in the door handle.
We’ll just have to keep our eyes peeled for any announcements from them! If they do, I’ll do a video on it! 🤓

We will have to wait and see, NFC is extremely small so Mercedes-Benz could have this installed in some select cars already and might just need a software update but....
it is more likely to be on new cars only when they have researched and developed this to work. I expect this technology to be at least a year or two at the least!
Best off keeping an eye out on the internet to see if there are any rumours that pop up!

I’m so annoyed with Mercedes, they offer CarPlay yet it isn’t wireless, I have a wireless charger built into my car yet I need to use a usb c to use CarPlay, so my wireless charger is a pointless feature and I have to have my phone on the passenger seat. Absolutely stupid design.

Hey Nick! Are there any shortcuts to getting to Now Playing or current Route guidance from any random menu within COMAND? I know MBUX can do this by clicking Radio/Media or Navi/Map on the center console, but COMAND 5.5 doesn’t seem to do this. Is there a way to do this that’s quicker than clicking the TEL shortcut button, or clicking Home and nudging the dial up toward CarPlay?
I’ve been told by users that pre facelift W205 could do this. Wondering why they would remove this convenience feature.
Hey Siddesh, unfortunately no on Apple CarPlay, you just have to use the menu button on the bottom and then select “Now Playing” on the screen on one of the Apple CarPlay apps
Hi Nick, Great video. Unfortunately I am having a new mercedes A class Sedan. Using Apple Car Play or Android Auto in this new MBUX system does not support full screen options. Do you know if there is a solution OR if Mercedes working on this feature?

I know what you mean, if you go to the Mercedes me Store it shows Apple CarPlay and if you look closely at the image it also shows on there not full screen too. I wish it was and I also wish I had more information on that but as far as I know there are no updates to bring full screen support.

This is something that MBUX does and in this video I’m not using MBUX hence why it looks quite big. I wish there was someone at Mercedes-Benz I could ask as to why it’s like this...

Have got COMAND with your E-Class? You need this for Smartphone Integration such as Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
And no sadly not, I haven’t made an Android Auto video just yet. I have an iPhone and I don’t have any close friends who have one to lend me! 😅

When CarPlay is running and I select the Voice Command it doesn't default to Siri, instead to the in-car multimedia system. I see many videos where Siri is active. How can I fix this??? 2019 AMG C 63 S Cabriolet
Hold the button instead of pressing it 🤓
Quite a hidden tip and trick that one! The button does two things. Press for in car voice assistant, hold for Siri on your phone

All videos are a great help to us. Bravo! I have one problem ... when I use Google maps on Apple Carplay, there are no voice instructions, only a sound like "tuuuuut". Then the radio is muted in the background (MB Comand NTG 5.5). I have to exit Apple Carplay every time and switch the Comand back to the radio. The problem arises again when the navigation needs to tell me where to turn. :-( My Mercedes is W213 MY 2017.
Hey Shima, Apple CarPlay is your phone mirrored to the screen so it might be best to check your phone to see if it does it with running Apple CarPlay.
Personally if it were me, I’d turn the Phone off and turn it back on, make sure you’re on the latest iOS. Delete the CarPlay pairing and reconnect back up and after that try a reset the multimedia system.
If that doesn’t work I’d suggest just contacting your local Mercedes dealership and they should be able to take a closer look.

Hello Nick, your videos are great and appreciate your knowledge. However (and other may have this issue as well) I don’t get the carplay screen when plugging in, I have been through the trouble shooting but no luck. The phone is connected and I can access media etc just cant find how to get the display screen. - any ideas? I have noticed that when I look in CarPlay on the phone the car isn’t listed..I have an I phone 8 and the car is a 2020 C180 Coupe - Thanks Ian

Apple CarPlay is not found on every model, if I recall it’s only found on the Premium Package in the UK. Do you know if you’ve got that on your one?

Sadly no Apple announced Apple CarPlay in 2014/2015. This announcement was to manufacturers like Mercedes to implement it into their model’s next facelift / next new launch.
For C-Class this was 2018/2019 onwards with an option called COMAND.

I have seen not only in videos from EU but also in Latin America, in countries such as Mexico and Ecuador, this model brings -hard disk navigation-.
Unfortunately in Argentina, the subsidiary has decided NOT to include it (considering that due to a marketing/price policy, where those who want integrated navigation must buy the A250 or the AMG)
I was following the instructions and I was able to connect Android Auto as you show it in this video.
The problem and reason for my query are that I cannot change or navigate on the application using the controls on the center console (pad), which forces me to make all the changes from the screen, which is difficult to use while driving while being extremely inefficient.
What you do in (minute 3:50'' with the wheel) I cannot move it with the 'pad' on my A200 'Progressive'
Is this something that I can configure from the display programming? I tried any way I could and I didn't succeed.
Could you help me with this?

Yes I noticed this in the car when Android auto was running. It'll only work on the actual touchscreen itself, so the touchpad will not work. I'm not sure if this is an Android Auto thing on MBUX as they're all like this.

No I haven’t tried them, I have heard of them working and I have heard of some adapters working but not with the USB-C adapters so not sure. I haven’t tried one to be honest!
In some new models like the eqs soon to be launched, I guess we won’t need the cable it syncs automatically via the wireless charging pad. Correct me if I’m wrong.
Hey Hardin, yes the new S-Class does feature wireless Apple CarPlay (one of the first models to do so!). I’m presuming the EQS will do the same but we’ll have to wait and see! It was announced yesterday but actual specification will be released in the summer so we can find out for sure then.

Great question! I didn't cover that in the video! Well actually as long as your GLA has the Executive Package then it will have Smartphone integration which includes Apple CarPlay.
I am pleased to say it is for the lifetime of the car if it's included from factory. In addition if it was purchased from the Mercedes me store (on a standard GLA) then this will also last the lifetime of the car too.
Nick O'Leary mine will be the Premium plus package, can you confirm this is work indefinitely without any further costs in the future?

As long as you’re in the UK you’ll be fine. Apple CarPlay is a one time thing, BMW tried the yearly subscription model and I believe it didn’t go down too well.
So yes Apple CarPlay will last indefinitely in your Mercedes-Benz.

Unfortunately no, Apple CarPlay (Apple Maps & Google Maps etc) run on the screen in the middle and that’s it. I can’t imagine that changing to be honest as there are millions of variants and models out there in the world, different years etc. App developers wouldn’t be able to keep! 😅
However don’t worry, you mentioned about 3 years for maps...the maps will continue to work after 3 years, it’s just map updates and live traffic that you can pay for. Or just use Apple CarPlay which is free 🤓

Mercedes-Benz have opted to only use a cable to connect Apple CarPlay so it won't connect wirelessly. Will have to keep an eye out in the future if that changes! It would be good if that did happen!
Hello Nick, see CarPlay is only for MBUX systems, I’ve heard Airplay is for Command system but is that similar or how does that work ie someone who has an iPhone or Android and they have command system ?

Apple CarPlay isn’t just for MBUX, it works on quite a few systems on Mercedes!
I haven’t heard of Airplay for COMAND, airplay is used for iPhones to mirror up to a tv in the house using something like Apple TV.
I've got an unusable amount of lag on the MBUX (2020 GLE) when in Apple Carplay. Is there any way to fix that?
Hey Mr Rick, there shouldn’t be any lag, but I have noticed before it was down to the person’s phone. Because there are many variables involving this it could be the car, cable, the adapter/dongle if you’re using one or even your phone.
What iPhone do you have? What cable are you using, is it the official Apple cable (it must be certified for Apple CarPlay), what iOS version are you running, the latest is 14.4.1.

Before I bought my A Class Salon late 2019, I read a few news articles that said the new A Class would certainly have wireless CarPlay, so I was very disappointed to see this wasn't true... false advertising for sure.
Hey Chino, no sadly MBUX is not capable of Apple CarPlay as it does not have any wireless receivers to do so. The new C-Class & S-Class are the only models in the Mercedes-Benz range that can do this currently but I’m hoping that future models will have this capability. Rest assured that in Mercedes-Benz literature it doesn’t state this anywhere however if wireless Apple CarPlay is added to any newly launched models in the future, I’ll be sure to cover it on here!

Hey Alex, it does depend on your specification of your Mercedes. Apple CarPlay is plug and play (if you have it).
You can check on an E-Class by pressing HOME on your centre screen, then go to CONNECT and it’ll be listed on here if you have it.
If it is there make sure that you’re plugging it in to the correct port and of course using the correct cable.
If it’s not there then sadly it won’t feature on that particular model.

It depends on your model of Mercedes I'm afraid! There are 32+ models so I'm not sure which one you have!
The touchscreen capability only came out in the A-Class in 2018 and has since expanded into 9 other models.

Hi Nick. I did activate CarPlay with the external OBD Dongle and it was working for quite a long time. After a few months it stopped working and now nothing happens when i plug in my phone with the cable into the CarPlay port.

Apple CarPlay is part of the Smartphone integration packages in GLE’s so unfortunately isn’t standard equipment. As it’ll have MBUX you can add it remotely by heading over to the Mercedes me Store and purchasing it in there if you needed. Just as a heads up, it doesn’t fill the wide screen up completely so if you are considering this, have a look at some pictures beforehand.

That’s right on the border of the previous model and the facelift version.
You can check if you have it by going to HOME, then CONNECT and it’ll be listed in there.
Alternatively, look in your cup holder area in the centre console, if you have a USB port and a wireless charging pad then you should have it.

Hey O T G, I’ve seen this before and found that it won’t show album artwork unless you’re using the native music app for your phone.
So for iPhones, it’s Apple Music and for Androids like a Samsung it’s Samsung music.
Although haven’t tried it for a while, plugging it in via USB might show it, could be worth a shot.
Or you could make use of Apple CarPlay / Android Auto if you have it 🤓

I know it definitely has Apple CarPlay, so I bought a USB-c cable on Amazon (don’t know if the brand makes any difference but it was the ‘Anker’ brand) and I tried following your instructions, so I plugged it in where it has wireless charging port and nothing happened. It just charges the phone but the ‘Apple CarPlay’ function didn’t work. Did I do anything wrong? Do I physically have to go on my iPhone and do it? Many thanks.

First up just double check your Mercedes-Benz A-Class has it as they don't all come with Apple CarPlay as standard. You can find it on the home screen under the menu called Connect and you'll find it in there. This is how you start it manually too (just in case auto starting of Apple CarPlay was disabled).
If you don't have Apple CarPlay it can be bought from the Mercedes me store where it will download to the car over a few hours.
Nick O'Leary I still haven’t got the Mercedes Me function because of this pandemic situation so I guess after I have it installed I can download the Apple CarPlay. Also, Nick because I bought the car during this pandemic situation - they didn’t really show me the ins & outs to the car. Do you know if the boot opens automatically? Or is it just manual?

Unfortunately the A-Class boot is just like a normal one so there aren’t any buttons to open or close.

MBUX is the multimedia system with the voice assistant “Hey Mercedes” and features a square touchpad in the middle of the car.
If you have a wheel in the middle to control the screen, then this is the previous pre-facelifted version
Nick, great video. However, I have had no success getting carplay to work in my 2017 E300. I definitely have it, and it begins to start but never does. I have reset the car the phone the cables everything you can think of doing I have done. Even tried a friends iPhone to see if that would work, no luck. I am scheduled to take it for service and have them look at it, but wanted to see if you had any suggestions or thoughts. Cheers!

Apple CarPlay is plug and play system but there can be a couple of things that stop it on it’s path from the wrong cable, the iPhone case preventing it connecting to even things like Siri isn’t enabled.

@@npoleary I have literally tried everything on that trouble setting video. It will get as far as the voice agreement. Then it always gives me this error message: Car Play could not be started. I am thinking there is something wrong with the usb port.

Have just acquired a CLA 250e. The set up for Apple Play just doesn't work as per the guide. Originally set p Bluetooth connection, no AP. Deleted that and turned Bluetooth off so as to set up phone again with USB. Works but no AP. Got as far as finding In Car Office but that isn't playing either. Then it wants to link Profile with Mercedes Me using a QR code but Mercedes Me doesn't recognise a QR code, and QR code readers simply copy the URL. they do not progress set up. Any help, advice welcome, otherwise Nick, can you run a tutorial on what to do - suspect this is newest version of MBUX that doesnt support AP.
Hi Chris Apple CarPlay is plug and play! You don’t have to do any of that with QR codes etc. You just need to first off make sure you have Apple CarPlay as it is not standard on all Mercedes-Benz. You can double check on your main screen in the car.

Go to Connect
Look for Smartphone integration
If it is not listed then you don’t have it but you can purchase this without visiting a showroom by going to the Mercedes me portal or app. It was £299 last time I checked.

I can’t remember if 2016 GLE’s have Apple CarPlay. I think they do but not 100% sure.
To check, turn on your ignition and in the middle of your car just above your hazard lights, there is a TEL button.
Press TEL and then Press TEL again. Use the wheel to spin the menu round and if you see the words Apple CarPlay in there then you’ve got it.
And regarding your phone, there’s no app to download, just plug your phone into one of the USB ports in the car.

I wish it was full screen too but there are other manufacturers who have come across the same issue before.
The reason is because MBUX on Mercedes’ is available in two screen sizes, 7” & 10.25”. When designing and coding I’m led to believe that you can only choose one (to maintain compatibility) for everything.
So to make sure it works on all models, Mercedes of course had to go with the 7” version, which is perfect for 7” owners but of course leads to a cropped experience if you have a 10.25” screen.
Hope that explains potentially why it’s like that on some cars!

This is something that MBUX does and in this video I’m not using MBUX hence why it looks quite big. I wish there was someone at Mercedes-Benz I could ask as to why it’s like this...

When I made this video, COMAND (the multimedia system) was quite prominent in the Mercedes range. Since then MBUX has taken over. MBUX multimedia systems will only ever show the smaller aspect ratio. My fingers are crossed that it changes in the future but it’s been like it for a long time now so I’d imagine it’s here to stay.
I will be redoing the Apple CarPlay video soon and showcasing the MBUX version.
How come CarPlay is full screen?

When I recorded this video it was done on what is now the previous E-Class. I might do a new one this year as Apple CarPlay has had a couple of minor upgrades since I made this.
MBUX does this though and it’s normal behaviour so it’s not a fault. I wish it was full screen too!

Thanks for the question, if you have a new shape A-Class (MBUX with Hey Mercedes) then yes you will need both a USB-C adapter and a USB Lightning Cable.
If it’s the the A-Class before that then you’ll only need the lightning cable.

Robert, I can confirm you can use the one cable (USB C to Lightening). This way you can avoid using the adaptor. I use USB C to Lightening in my Mercedes. You will only need the USB Adaptor should you want to connect older USB connections to your cars USB C port. Mercedes, gave me an adaptor with my car for this purpose. Nick, you make good videos - please update your response otherwise it may cause some confusion.

Hey John, sadly no as it was only introduced in a completely new multimedia system in 2019 on the C-Class’s facelift. It was an option in one of the Premium & Premium + packages called COMAND that had Smartphone Integration.

Hi Iman, sadly if it isn’t there then your car doesn’t have it. It has to be spec’d at factory which offers a faster processor, upgraded hardware and usually a new USB port too which is located next to the cup holders.

Hey Alioahli, it depends if you have it or not on the specification. Not all cars have Apple CarPlay as standard, but if you don’t have it / it wasn’t selected at factory, you can purchase it from the Mercedes me store if you want to add it afterward

Also will detect if you are Petrol or Diesel and give you fuel Prices in area. Many other tricks as well - truly amazing.*

Unfortunately not Apple CarPlay was announced in 2014 and then subsequently started to roll out to cars over the coming years. For example it only appeared in the B-Class from about 2016 onwards.
I guess the only way to get it would be an after market solution but it would be very expensive as it would involve modifying your dashboard...

You can also exit out of Apple CarPlay from the Media Menu. Most Mercedes, even new ones do not allow full screen Apple CarPlay. Also, I don’t get the dashboard split screen function. Does this need to be enabled ?

The dashboard spilt screen function is a feature of Apple CarPlay, you should be able to access it on the home screen by going to the next page across.

It depends on the year of car, Mercedes have had wired CarPlay for quite a while and only recently on the GLA’s facelift has it gone wireless. Pretty sure it’s gone wireless within the past year so any other model will be wired

Apple CarPlay launches automatically if the car has it but there can be a few things that prevent that.
I hope you do Android Auto to, because I have a lot off question off music quality integration such as: Hi-res flac-files, Tidal MQA and Bluetooth Aptx HD.

It’s hard to say on here as it depends when your A-Class was made and it’s specification. To be sure you can either:
1) Head over to the Mercedes me Store on the portal online and see if it’s listed there as an option to buy.
2) On the car’s system (MBUX), press HOME, then navigate to Mercedes me and Apps. I you have it included with your car then it will be listed there.
If it’s not it can be purchased as an over the air upgrade which will take a few hours to download and appear in the car.

Hi Carl, I’ve the same issue, I’ve collected my b class 1 month ago, only to realised after the purchase I need to pay £299 for Apple CarPlay via their app, pretty gobsmacked. On the advertisement it promoted Apple CarPlay without remarks on the description (subscription/additional cost). I think Mercedes will deactivate the app once they resell the car to its future owner and regenerate more $$. Money pinching!

Apple only announced Apple CarPlay to the world in 2014/2015 but this was also the same announcement to manufacturers so they can can implement and use this tech over the coming years (typically on the next product refresh)
Apple CarPlay first came out on the C-Class in 2019 in the UK on it’s facelift.

I haven't personally used NFC just because it's compatibility with phones is quite limited, but it allows you to connect your phone to the system quicker than the traditional method via Bluetooth.
Due to iOS restrictions, NFC can't be used at the moment on iPhones apart from Apple Pay (which has no use in the car). NFC will be only be compatible with selected Android phones.
I wonder if NFC can be turned off? software or physical disconnect the connector? (I don't have an option to NFC disable in the menu). It annoys me that Apple Pay keeps turning on the screen. If I turn off NFC (disconnect), will I lose the QI wireless charging function?
No keep NFC off if you have an iPhone, wireless charging will still work like normal 🤓
Is there any over sat nav you can use via Apple Car Play i find Waze so rubbish looking although it is good.
Ignore that Nick, just got in the car and used Google Maps and changed map view to Satellite and it's so much better than Waze!

How About all the voice commands - “turn on the seat heating” - there must be many others. Can you bring that in an other program.

Thanks Neils! Quite tricky to do to be honest! Voice assistants like Siri, Google, Alex & even Hey Mercedes are constantly updated and don’t have a global list.
On your main multimedia screen if you have MBUX say: Hey Mercedes, What can I ask you?
Or if you have COMAND, press the voice button up on the relevant screen (Phone, Navi, Media etc) and it will show a list on the screen.
