My first time taking GABA last night and wow although my sleep was broken into three due to certain noises in the house especially my cat being nocturnal and my wife snoring I was still able to get some deep sleep hence why I was dreaming as well. One of the main reason I woke up couple times was due to morning wood, some of the strongest I’ve had but I was also ok with that knowing how well my body was releasing growth hormone. I got up next morning listening to some music and in a great mood. Any explanation?
Yeah I take 4 gram, 500 mg magnesium (many different types of magnesium-also magnesium threonate) and 750 mg gaba at night. Im testing more gaba also now to see the effects on my brain.
If gaba don't crosses blood brain barrier then how is it useful as supplementation ? Also does external supplementation with gaba decreases body's own production of the same ?
there is more research into this question, one theory is that it is effecting the vagus nerve. Nakamura U, Nohmi T, Sagane R, et al. @@JessicaNortonND The second part of the OPs question is: does taking it as a supplement decrease the body's own production of gaba? Which I guess could lead to needing to wean off it slowly or becoming dependent?
The mechanism of action of primidone is not well defined. It is believed to work centrally via interactions with voltage-gated sodium channels inhibiting repetitive firing of action potentials. This would be a question to take up with your prescribing physician
No. It doesn’t work the same way as Primidone, but it does reduce seizure frequency and intensity for me. I’ve had epilepsy for 9 years. It is resistant to prescribed drugs, but I have cut the frequency by 75%, with a combination of valerian (a gaba stimulator), and gaba supplement. Just as important, keep your blood sugar low, and never drink alcohol 👍

Hello, I don't know if you can answer this question, but I would really appreciate a professional take on this. I am considering taking GABA to reduce some symptoms which I think may come from an undiagnosed Autism Spectrum Disorder. I found a few articles hinting that the neurological impairements, that are characteristic for autism may come or at least are in some degree related to a reduced ability to release or produce GABA. I feel overwhelmed very fast, get caught in mental loops and have in general difficulty calming myself down. Do you think GABA might help me to get some order into my brain? I would appreciate a response, but fully understand, if you cannot give a simple answer. Thanks in advance.
ASD is definitely not my area of expertise and it's hard to say without knowing more of your history. However I would say if you want to give GABA a try this would be a great topic to chat with your doc about so that you can monitor symptoms/side effects as you work with the dosage.
