- 4x4 Info Screen for Discovery Land Rover
This video shows how to upgrade the Discovery Touchscreen to show 4x4 Info, Phone and other settings that are not on the Discovery.
This modification is FREE and took me approx 15 minutes to do.
You can also add a Reversing Camera with the FAKRA Cable and a TV Module and DVD Player.

this is a hope to get near camera. I get a Land Rover Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE 2006. Did everything as described but couldn’t get the near camera view on the screen. Any suggestions? And after some reading here next I need the scanner IID toll for the system recognize the camera. Problems: That bluetooth scanner cost around U$650 ( US dollars today ) So I need to find some one who can have it here in Brazil. Also after cutting the middle yellow wire screen gets darker so I still need to find what should I be soldering in.
Hi, this is an awesome tip! Is the adaptor spelled “fakra?” Trying to find one to order online. But wasn’t sure of the exact spelling. Thanks!
Wow! Just tried this. It literally took me 15 minutes. I didn’t completely remove my unit, I just pulled it out slightly and removed the wire with the safety pin taped it up. Then refitted everything and it works! Full access to the 4x4 menu and all the other features. Very impressed!
To cut the wire is a easy task and see the screen showing the new functions.
Hard is to make them work.
I still didn’t give up !
That's insane! Bought mine with "wrong" navigation, so the whole screen was pretty useless until i tried this. Can't believe how easy this was. 10-15 min max indeed! Thank you good Sir, for sharing this gem with us "low spec" LR3 owners!

I honestly thought this would be a load of rubbish and couldn’t possibly work, until five minute later I did as shown here and it works like it was always like that from the factory…

Yeah what a good bit of advise! I didn’t even need to take out the radio just moved the facia forward and got the updated screen! Thanks a lot so much better!

Absolutely in-cre-di-ble!. It works!!. From a simple 2 box old menu to a newly 6 one!.
The physical buttons don't work fine now, but it doesn't matter at all with this magnificent update.

Honestly i was sceptical at 1st but let me be the 1st to say I was so wrong to doubt!! 8 screws and a tweezer to pull the wire out and plugged it all back in i now have the upgrade. Cheers pal 👍👍

Thanks mate worked a treat! I chose to just pull back the tape and cut wire then put close ends on each wire as I couldn't get the wire out of the connector and I was getting pretty rough with it and it's quite fragile.

Thanks GG Aviation, what a great guide to enabling a free software upgrade! I followed your video today and it all worked fine. Pulling out the little yellow wire was quite a bit harder than I was expecting, a pair of really fine nosed pliers would be a help. Pushing the safety pin in didn't seem to make a difference for mine, but my technique may be a bit sus. Anyway, all good and really did only take 15-20 mins.

Adding the reverse camera will it switch automatically when you put it in reverse or do you have to power up the camera when the reverse lights come on and the unit switches when it senses a video input?
I've added the camera and disconnected the wire and cut the wires for reverse lines and image. But image in still flipped. Any ideas?
This worked just did it in my d3 I almost paid someone to program them in quick question got the reverse cam how can I see the TV option please

I’ve done this today. 👍. Waiting for the camera to arrive next week. What about all of the other features. Do they all work? Some of the fields are blank. Also do you need a gvif module to allow the camera to work? Does anything need enabling?
Thank you for this post, it looks very interesting, i have a couple of questions. Firstly does the reversing camera initialize when reverse gear is selected? And secondly will my apple phone automatically connect via Bluetooth. I have an LR3 HSE 2007.
Did the brightness change so it can't be seen very easily during the day ? Mine has had it done before I bought .

I just did this. It works, but now my screen is very dim. I have tried increasing the brightness. Didn't help. Anytime else come across this problem?
Just did this and for some weird reason, the radio volume didn't work either with the knob or steering wheel buttons. I had to revert back...

Not sure,but you may need the bluetooth module. Have you tried a youtube search on the Phone Code to enter to accept bluetooth? Worth a try :)

Yes it will work fine - all the 4x4 info, including where the wheels point - which helps when off-road

HI, I have seen youtube videos about connecting to the bluetooth - there is a 4 digit code to put in. The reverse camera or Tv modules run on a cable called FAKRA - but you have to have certain modules in place for the FAKRA in/out to work :)

Did the mod however none of the on road info is displayed? Items like fuel consumption, avg fuel trip etc.... Anyone else experience this? I have an '07 V8 HSE
Some people put a switch on the removeable cable, so they can flip between screens

While to menu system is upgraded, I now have a screen that is too dull to be useful. I tried increasing the brightness in the settings but no change? Do you have any suggestions?

If you search on Disco3 Forum, there is a discussion and photos of a diode you can solder.
Also try turning up the brightness for the instrument cluster :) May help a bit
Could you use the other fakra connectors to add additional cameras, like a front camera? Has anyone used the IID tool to active the reverse camera?
How long was the Fakra Cable?
There are 3 fakra connectors on the rear of the Denso screen
Fakra cables are typically 6 inch long, but have an AV type connector on the end, so really easy to extend
So the IID tool is needed to active the reverse camera? I did everything as described on the video but didn’t get the reserve camera view. So maybe the IID tool would be the answer ?

Does this work on the RRS aswell as only have settings 4x4 and nav and would love the phone function or is it just on a disco thanks
I think this works for the DENSO screen only, so if your RRS is 05-09 then I guess you have the denso screen?
RRS is the same. However for phone functions to work you need the phone module installed and therefore it would already be on your screen menu.

The lead is a FAKRA connector, but you need the TV modules installed also :)
I have an odd thing going on with my system on a 2005 LR3 HSE. The screen and the radio were presumed dead when I bought it. However, while on a drive the other day both the info screen and the radio lit up with the info screen just showing LAND ROVER and the radio lighting up but showing no information and no sound...thoughts? I am changing out the entire radio system so no worries there, but the info screen I'm not sure what's going on there...any information or help you could share would be appreciated.
Most system fiber optic loop , you can buy it on eBay or Amazon for about 6💲, I bet that will fix your radio
I’ve heard replacing the old amp will fix that.
Hello friend, I have seen this video and I have done it in my discovery 3. The problem is the brightness of the screen is very dark and when it is illuminated by daylight it looks very dark. Could the brightness of the screen be increased?
I’d like to know this as well…plus non of the “extra” menus don’t calculate…

yes it will, but you need the tv module hardware installed also, second hand on ebay they are quite cheap now
Worked fine on my 2009 RRS but the setting button takes me to Sat nav and the Sat navbutton takes me to the phone? Anyone have any idea what needs to be done to swap buttons to take me to the right option i select?

Bit late to the party but did you ever plumb in a reverse camera. I'd like to do it on my 2006 L200 RR so the screen switches to the cam when in reverse gear. I figured out how to wire the cam to the lights, but if I connected directly it to the socket behind the screen would it do this? Great video btw.
No. You need to edit the Ccf with a £500 tool to say a camera is fitted.
@@AndyK.1 What is ccf? You mean an OBD scanner coding process is needed?
@@eugeneyoung2803 Yes. Car Configuration File. But not many OBD tools can do it. Only ones around £500
I am very interested in upgrading my screen mainly for phone function, so for clarification, to get that upgrade all I do is remove and insulate the central yellow wire on the button panel of the screen. As directed in your video. as I do not wish to add camera or video device is this all that needs doing.

Oui, tu peux activer l'écran info 4x4 avec IIDTOOL.
Yes you can, you can upload the ccf file - but the tool is £450 ?? So this is an easy way to get around paying lots for the 4x4 info screen

Yes, i think they call it RR Mode

Do you just disconnect the forth wire on the back and it becomes the Range Rover screen?

Yes I could have, but i have sold my Land Rover now. The camera connected by FAKRA cable to the rear of the Denso Screen, but you need a Gap Tool or similar to enable it :(
Only problem I have is no control over sound

Dose it recognize the camera or dose something need to be programmed
I had a reverse camera running on it - but there is a 4 digit code to enter first. Search for the hidden menu code for Discovery 3 :)

@@daz.j It does go a little darker, but you can still push up the brightness in the on screen settings and the control on the dashboard next to the headlight switch
