Great video overall. I was looking for a timelapse for a looong time as I'm a complete noob when it comes to the whole mechanical bike departament. Learned a lot!
Nice video, im rebuilding my R1 4c8 at the moment and using Chinese fairings ..I found if you use a heat gun on the those bumps on upper front side fairings at the join you can straighten them out ..before fitting back heat inside and bend inwards then fit ... so far im happy with Chinese fairings and the fitment.
Great video, very thorough and honest. Quick question, which company supplied your fairings? There are a number of them on eBay and I’d like to use the same company that supplied yours. Thanks.
On an 08 R1 I rebuilt for a friend, the side fairings came off at speed. Basically the molded pieces that are inside the main side fairings that you screw into for the upper side fairings broke off from the fairing. And these were "injection molded". We ended up drilling small holes on the side fairing and using small allen cap head screws to hold the upper side fairings to the mid fairings.
@@TristanDurandBuilds Yeah good luck. Other than that one issue, everything else was very good like you described. We did the 25 anniversary colors and added yellow reflective tape to the wheel rims.
Great video man,i have seen all your videos, from start till the end and i loved it a lot,in this way i also considered myself that i have seen the yamaha r1 very closely, from many angles,i loved to see how you inspect its built quality.I am from India and i love bikes,i have a ninja 300,i bought it second hand from a owner who totally murdered the bike,no fairings nothing, even the foot rest ,gear selector, bent front alloy wheel, bent suspension pipes, broken radiator, and almost 45% of the body parts were destroyed, the enjine was as usual like the new,i bought did a very hard work to give it back the life, your video made me remember my work,i love superbikes and i just see videos, sad part in my life is...i am a poor person and i cant afford to buy one.
Turned out very, very, nice Tristan! I have been using titanium hardware all over my KZ1000's and love it! Been using Probolt, RaceTi, and some Chinese sellers as well. Happy New Year, Doug
Hi Tristan. I had the same issue with the lower section of the screen. Some masking tape and black paint from the rear( doesn't matter if gloss or matt, the plastic from the screen makes it look glossy) Problem solved. Hope this helps.
I’m kind of afraid I would have to sand the plastic before painting and I don’t want to do that I would paint on top because I want a matte finish (I don’t have anything glossy black on the bike) Did you sand before painting or just paint directly on the new screen ?
Oh ok, thought you had a brand or a specific website in mind I didn’t come across any seller that was particularly emphasizing that, to me it was always coming from Hong Kong And I know the trading company is in Hong Kong but the manufacture is really in mainland China, from past experiences trading with China you see them selling something coming from HK or Taiwan but that’s only the office that ships and pays customs, everything is made in mainland
I didn’t have to pay any customs, I honestly it’s a question of luck (or how the supplier identifies the products in the box) So if you’re lucky like me, you won’t pay customs when it gets here in the US 🇺🇸
Yeah the font used should be a "condensed" type, with a small kerning between each letter. The "rainbow effect" on the emblems makes the place of origin really obvious haha 😆. Overall result is still very good with impressive restoration work.
First one i found that shows the actual fairings on the bike. thank you for not only do a unbox video.

That makes me happy to see I can bring some kind of value to you 🏁

Nothing beats OEM fairings, but of course there is a major cost associated with that. But overall these don't look too bad.
Exactly, even used on eBay the oem fairings would have cost me so much more. I think those are great value 👍

Yes those are also injected, I’ll see what’s up with those, for now I’m happy with it 👍

The 25th anniversary is beautiful, that bike must have looked nice 🤩
Plastidip inside bottom of screen. Did it on a friends and it looked really good. Like a painted tint almost.
I should try that... I never used plasti dip but I’ll keep that in mind 👍
Happy new year! You did well job bro, very good quality of rebuilding and videos! The Yamaha coms gorgeous like brand new
Thanks man, it was a lot of work to get there indeed 🔧
Now she’s about to go out on the road 💨
That "bump" you have on the fairing is a lug that clips into the top part, just push on it and it should clip in.

Happy to you year to you too Doug 🥳
excellent video and really nice guy. really helped me out with my R1 rebuild!!!!
maybe some carbon parts gonna make the R1 looks more gorgeus, nice video man as always
I’m glad to see you like it Ado !
Bike looks badass!!!
I have to do with my r1 aswell. They did an airbrush I didnt like so I have to change the fairings. Going black glossy this time.
Yes I can totally see that paint is not necessarily the best depending on the supplier you choose, I consider myself lucky 👍
@@TristanDurandBuilds all water based paints are so orange skin finish......
Excellent video
Hi, could you tell me how many numbers of the titanium m6 bolt screws are needed? also what lengths? Thank you! Awesome videos.
Hi Tristan. I had the same issue with the lower section of the screen. Some masking tape and black paint from the rear( doesn't matter if gloss or matt, the plastic from the screen makes it look glossy) Problem solved. Hope this helps.
Yes this is true, I want a matte look so I ordered some matte black vinyl, I’ll show that on next video ✌️
@@TristanDurandBuilds Paint is a lot quicker, longer lasting and easier. No air bubbles or precise cutting needed.
I’m kind of afraid I would have to sand the plastic before painting and I don’t want to do that
I would paint on top because I want a matte finish (I don’t have anything glossy black on the bike)
Did you sand before painting or just paint directly on the new screen ?
@@TristanDurandBuilds No, plastic primer first. No need for sanding. Especially on new plastic like the screen.
Wah look like best bro R1
That R1 is looking fire indeed 😊
As long as they do not fly off at high speed, I say they are worth it.
That’s 1 way to see it, yes
😅
So, is thsis brand good or not ?
You should just use bolts on all instead of those cheap unsecure plastic rivets . Works better for me and less rattle and vibration
Hey tristan is it possible to put a 2009 plastic on that bike?
The 2009 R1 is the crossplane engine, the bike is completely different. Those plastics are not interchangeable without modifications
Great review
Glad it helps ✌️
Love it!!!
Thanks Tan 👍
What are the size of the yamaha emblem sticker for the tank and tail?
Can anyone confirm buying from the same seller? I need fairings myself but is always sketchy dealing with aftermarket parts
China produces all things but different price ranges. You get what you paid no matter where it manufactured. Nice fairings
Hey, can you name what part is that at 18:33 , because that one part is missing on my bike.
Well I’m not watching my video right now so I don’t know
I’m sure it’s a fairing part so a quick search on google should tell you what it is 🧐
Spray paint the black bit on the screen , sure you have paint left over 👍
True but I wanted to try the vinyl wrap (so I can get more comfortable on other projects 👍)
You did a good job on the wrap, spot on 👍
I was pretty surprised, a hairdryer and you’re good ✌️
Please consider looking for parts made in Taiwan next time
Where would I find that ?
@@TristanDurandBuilds I mean looking for parts made in Taiwan on eBay

@@TristanDurandBuilds Yes, but the quality of parts exported from Taiwan is better than China!
Looking forward to your next motorcycle
I bought one from mtcfairings, turned ut beautiful
i just bought a 2005 r1 for 1700. has no fairings and just bought some for $140 lol. wish me luck

Bro.. M from India.. Can u courier some spares of this bike ..plz... M searching badly.. Plz

The Yamalube font is dreadful. Nothing like the oe.😞
It doesn’t appear to be bad to me, and I am usually one that pays great attention to details 😅

You know your stuff ✌️
I love that that white/gray/black livery with touches of red 🎨
@@TristanDurandBuilds there is a Valencia-Edition from Fiat .Looks also very good
