- The 2008 YAMAHA R1 is a superbike that not only looks the best, but it also rides the best. This is the first bike to reach the 1:1 power to weight ratio, and they did it with dual under-tail exhaust. In 2007-08 the two models were essentially the same. Changes those years included an updated Deltabox V frame, a 4 valve engine (more mid-range), updated styling and GP ram air intake, and a fly by wire throttle.

Yeah one of the legendary motorcycles ever made… I do have one.. the only problem is the heating issue especially in traffic.

I'm the third owner of mine bought it with 20,000 miles for $3800. Mint Condition, full titanium akra exhaust, ecu & powercommander 5 tune, i get comments every where i go. Its a zero electronics bike, and that beast can hang with bikes ten years newer .. make sure you do the HID low beam conversion. My headlights are crazy bright!

Found mine 600$ no title but in process of getting it already(clean vin etc low miles bad fuel pump) lucky no damage just sat down

Great bikes. Mine has about 170,000 k's on it and still screams. The only things that have screwed up were the 3 spring things in the slipper clutch at about 50,000k's, the other day I replace the starter solenoid (it was still sort of working) and a connector for the headlights got some corrosion in it and they stopped working. Oh and I wore the chrome off the forks and had to get them re- chromed. Other things have been damaged but that is no fault of the bike, just crap roads.
Dream bike, doesn't matter which years model.. Just love R1🙆🙆🙆

I would expand that back to 2004-2008 and focus on condition and mileage personally. Sweet bikes for sure!

I have a 2008 in Red & White, less than 10,000 miles and perfect condition. I intend to keep it that way. First R1 was a 99 model I had from 2006 to 2021.
20 years later and this model of R1 is the Sexiest Angry Beast ! I had 2004 in blue and 2007 in white which got stolen from in front of my house 😮

Beautiful bike.. I have a 2008 red one with the red Wheels... and I absolutely love it.. you're right it is hard to find a good one it took me a few years to find this one in great shape.. it had the stock pipes on it I tried to find the two brothers Black Series pipes but they quit making them.. so I went with the graves exhaust with a nice shiny midpipe cat delete.. the person that had it before me did a flash on it with the cat delete... it's scary fast..
Yeah, these bikes are really fast! I am a big fan of the red/white model which was a limited edition one if i remember right. The 2008 is the 20 year anniversary of the R1 line. Sounds like you have a sweet bike!
How did you get these sick shots? Drone overhead tracking? Sweet ride man! I had the same one and it was stolen within a week of owning it. Never fully got to enjoy it, now I'm looking to get another soon hopefully soon, and only interested in 08 R1 Raven.

Going after a 2007 R1 that I can’t get insurance for cause of a DUI in 2017. Guess I’ll have a nice living room piece till 2027 cause I was told by Geico that a 10 year wait could get it insured. I wanted this bike from the moment they made it, yeah it is the best looking R1 ever made! 🤙🏽 wish it had the 02-03 tail light incorporated into it tho

Any common issues you should check when getting an 07 secondhand?
I believe 07/08 were the first to get a slipper clutch also.

Did you ever had any problems with the stator?
Yes mine exploded at just over 20k. If you don’t have upgraded flywheel and stator cover it can be a disaster. The bits of magnet that were epoxy’d onto the stator can cause serious damage if not contained and you’ll have to drop the oil pan and get all those pieces out which makes the whole ordeal of replacing the stator that much more of a headache.
I got a 08 with 8000 miles and has a ticking noise. If I sent you a video of it could you just listen to it and tell me what you think it could be
Possibly, my email is in my video descriptions. It’s probably not a big deal but are you running clean full synthetic oil? That’s the main thing. It might be your cam chain which might not be bad.
I miss my 07 R1 unfortunately I was young and rode like I needed to prove something and ended up crashing her. My question is throttle feel, how’s yours ? Mine was jerky.
The throttle control can it be learned by practice or is it a bike only for expert riders?

It's up to you. I went from 125cc to 1000cc straight.

Starter, headlight harness issues. Easy fixes. Other than it runs hot In 80 degree weather and up!
