Great question! Sometimes I do however this time I did not (it was being used by someone else). Having a jack underneath will make it easier to line up the holes upon re-installation. However it is not necessary. But if you have one, it is a good idea to use it. Just make sure you use the seam on the bellhousing as a lift point, not the oil pan if possible!
