That "B" on the crown. Is that Microsoft Word Arial font, size 12? I would have left that boring "B" off the crown. Good review Bobby.
The texture and graining of the B is incredible though…
My first impression was that I liked the dial. Then I noticed the orientation of the numerals. Once noticed, you can't stop noticing.
Thanks for talking about the negatives too. I have a 5 1/4 inch wrist (super small) and I really want this watch. I might just get it in the solid case back. Maybe that will help.
Man I love this watch so much, thanks for bringing one in for review
Every time I see a sector dial watch I'm attracted to the look more and more. Great looking watch and it looks fantastic on that bracelet.
They're not screws in the bor bracelet, they're push pins.
They should have gone with the miyota 9000 series movement, and used a thinner case. It'd be a real winner. A shame.
Great review. I think you gave a fair overview of the pros and cons. Very helpful.
Thanks for pointing out the height. You're correct, a dress watch such as this one should be slimmer. Is the solid watch-back slimmer?
Go without the exhibition case back and it will sit nicely against the wrist and addresses the drape of the bracelet.
Are you assuming that this will be the case or have you compared them both?
The Baltic beads of rice band has pins, not screws! Push them out a bit and then pull them out with pliers. You’ll need the right tool and small mallet.
Bummer about the thickness! I was leaning to getting one. That’s a dealbreaker for me! Great review Bobby!
That's Hesalite, not mineral glass on this one. Shame about the thickness, I'm hoping that's just the case back option. I've tried on the Longines sector dial and it wears beautifully.
Really nice looking watch, I had thought about picking one up ! , but I agree with your opinion with the thickness don't think it would sit well on my wrist .
Changed my order from display to solid caseback because of this video.
How does it sit on your wrist? Or are you still waiting for it?
@@BobbyLegs it's a pre order , they changed the movement to a Miyota 8315. I bet it'll sit just fine on my wrists tho. (7.2 inch) I prefer my field watches as slim as possible and seeing the non existent lug drape , i thought it would be a better choice to go with the solid caseback.
Bobby, you're absolutely right needs flatter case back and more down turn on the lugs. It's standing off the wrist like a flying saucer!
Great review, Bobby. In my case, a very timely discovery. The exhibition caseback would normally be my choice, however, in this case the extra thickness and the way it sits well above your wrist is an absolute no from me. Thanks so much for pointing that out. I am about to buy the black dial variant with the Miyota 8315, as they are available for pre-order. Thanks again, you may just have saved me a disappointing purchase. I think these sector dials from Baltic look BETTER than a Longines, due to the oversized and awful looking seconds subdial ruining the aesthetics of the dial overall.
Could you give an update in how tall the watch is without the exhibition caseback and how you like the watch in general?
@@jakob7344 12.5mm thick. I bought the darker dial one (black/grey) on the beads of rice bracelet. It would also look great on a strap if you want to 'dress it down' a little.. The grey centre part of the dial looks like finely textured sand. Stunning dressier style watch!!!! Very elegant. The blue/gilt one also looks really cool.
thanks for the very practical review, rather than just reciting the spec sheet.
Big fan of Baltic.
Really like that vintage 40’ style with a clean design. 👍😎
Great quality.
intersting point re the case back/height! thanks for this info!
I picked up the limited edition salmon when it first came out. The movement really turned me off. Made the watch feel cheap. But man it was pretty.
To me thickness is one of the most important aspects of a watch. When you start at the lower end Seiko NH35's and similar watches, you expect them to be thick but one of the major differentiators with more well designed (expensive) watches is how thin they are and once you go thin its hard to go back. There's a lot I don't like about this watch, most of all the movement. The 821A is a THICCC movement and the 9039 is much thinner. For the price they are asking, should be the 9039.
Thanks Bobby!
A really nice Sector Dial here and I love Beads of Rice bracelets but the thickness of the case (I presume caused by the movement size) is a bit too much isn’t it. Those lugs as well!!! Why on Earth didn’t they curve them downwards a little? The bracelet looked like it pertruded too much off the wrist. Disappointing for such a nice looking watch. ✊
The Baltic website indicates: THICKNESS : 12MM (Glass included)
Those are pins, not screws. Quite common actually.
It's a crying shame about the protruding case back. Does ruin an otherwise gorgeous watch. This could indeed be a deal killer. Need to explore a closed case back. I like your idea of a hand winder with a thin case back. Bottom line, an elegant watch that sits awkwardly on the wrist.
I like the Art Deco styling but your concerns are legit. A dress watch that poorly conformed to the wrist, and they want $400 for it? At that price point there's too much competition for sloppy design.
Disappointed to say least Rob!
The overhanging lugs are unfortunate. I had the same problem with several Seiko 5s and the Bulova hack watch where the watch sat too tall on my wrist due to the lugs.
