      It's the self deprecation and friendly banter. They can mock whoever and whatever they want without it feeling mean because they routinely mock themselves even harder. At least I believe that plays a part in it.

    • @douglasphillips5870

      It's the accent. It sounds authoritative, so when they get silly the accent sounds out of place and it compounds the silliness.

    • @goodlord370
      @goodlord370 5 лет назад +21

      Douglas Phillips well it’s still hilarious to me but the accent isn’t out of place at all for me because I have that accent. The accent probably only funny to you because you don’t have it.... like I find Australian, Irish and especially NewZealand accents hilarious for comedians. But it’s funny because it’s unfamiliar. That’s not to say that they wouldn’t be funny without their accents obviously..... and the comedians on this episode of Qi are all fuck!ng hilarious! Lol

      To me, it has a similar meter to a line of a song in Gershwin's "Of Thee I Sing". Wiki: 'The musical lampoons American politics; the story concerns John P. Wintergreen, who runs for President of the United States on the "love" platform. When he falls in love with the sensible Mary Turner instead of Diana Devereaux, the beautiful pageant winner selected for him, he gets into political hot water."
      The French ambassador unexpectedly arrives and says jilting Diana is a great offense to France because she's a distant relative of Napoleon!

      She's the illegitimate daughter
      (They say of the Acropolis)

      They say of the Acropolis where the Parthenon is; It's really not that obvious, it really is a quiz; The locals, they don't care that much, the Brits get in a fizz: there simply is not one straight line: that's honest, not a swizz!

    So after ten years, I think, by this point, I’ve watched this clip dozens, if not hundreds, of times. I’ve had career changes, relationship breakups, laughter, love, innumerable short holidays, and, most nebulously, a complete physical and mental breakdown after the loss of my eldest daughter right on the cusp of her adulthood. This clip is one of a very, very short list of constants. So I’m leaving this comment as a checkpoint for every time I return in the future. Likely, no one else will see this on an already-ancient video, but if you do, feel free to use it yourself as a checkpoint.

    And, to top it off, they don't say that about the Acropolis ("where the Parthenon is"), but about the Parthenon, itself!
    So much for that classical education, Stephen!
