I’m so angry every time I hear the ‘no such thing as a fish’ one, YES THERE IS. Of course a hagfish isn’t related to a salmon HAGFISH ARENT FISH ITS JUST THE COMMON NAME
@@olivermay7552 I'll add that hagfish are a part of the 'jawless fish' (Agnatha) infraphylum while fish (jawed fish) fall under the infraphylum Gnathostomata, along with all vertebrates that descended from jawed fish. So the question is NOT "What is a fish?" it is what is the first non-fish, from then on all descendants of that are decidedly NOT fish (I believe icthyostega is where the amphibian cut off is?? I can't remember) But more pertinent to the conversation they had, they weren't talking about vertebrates at all, Steven asked if a Starfish, Jellyfish or Cuttlefish are fish... I honestly expected better, seriously questioning whether a mollusk, an echinoderm, and a CNIDARIAN are fish is absurd! Overall, the confusion stems from the common names of animals in English. If you simply look at the surface level anatomy of any of these creatures you can see how NOT fish they are. Don't even get me started on people who think dolphins are fish...
Barrack Hussein Obama received one. Must have been all that peace he was spreading. Not the same piece his was mother was spreading to The Third Worlders she met.
Well there are plenty of sea creatures that fit the definition of fish. Something like percomorphs which represent about 96% of teloists are perch shaped, which is fish shaped. I think all it is is that more creatures that we call fish are less fish like. So hagfish and lampreys arent fishlike but they are ancient. But coelacanths, which are lobe fins are fish like and they are ancient, sturgeon are also fishlike and ancient. We all know that crayfish are aquatic crustaceans, sharks and rays are cartilaginous and not fishlike, starfish are echinoderms and jellyfish are cnidarians. Nobody gets confused over that. But if its fish shaped, has gills, and swims its a fish. Of course there are exceptions such as a seahorse, which looks nothing like a fish but is one. True eels are fish but electric eels are not. The true conger eel is a true eel and a fish but the amphiuma, often called a congo snake or even conga eel is actually a legless salamander, an amphibian. So i think there are such things as fish, if you know what a fish is, if you dont know the difference between a cnidarian, mollusc, crustacean or amphibian then it can be confusing.
Oh, you sounded convincing at the beginning, but even your own list of exceptions undermine your case, never mind the details someone who spent their life studying will have come up with. For purposes of conversation or (as David Mitchell says) ordering on a menu, sure there are fish. But that's not useful to people who are studying creatures for more intricate knowledge.
Yes, and Joe Brand has to make numerous "jokes"about her obesity, just in case we forget that that topic is the sole basis of all of her "comedy". Change the bloody record Joe.

Yes, there are fish. If you look up in the Oxford English dictionary, there is a definition for "fish." If you go to the ocean you'll find things that fit that definition. Just because fishes aren't scientifically defined doesn't mean it isn't a perfectly good term in common language. I love QI but that round annoys me every time I see it.
@@khymaaren Come on. That would be like saying Karens don't exist because they aren't defined by scientists. We all know they exist. Lol. Thanks for your reply though. I appreciate hearing your point of view.
