In Ryza 2 i liked the fact that you can swim but annoyed me a lot, I hated the battle system and the menu was terrible. Sophie is better in all the aspects, but is less explorative.

I want to get this game but I also wonder if it's like Rune Factory. I am playing RF5 now on normal difficulty. but sometimes I think of making it easy just to progress faster. it's taking me forever haha. so much to do!
Just found the physical on sale. Trying it now. I see what you mean about the synthesis... I might do auto too. I got Ryza 2 for my pc and Sophie 2 for my Switch lite. Sophie 2 looks much better. Gotta say I enjoy synthesis in Ryza a lot more. But Sophie can jump! Yay! Each game has its own thing. I think I like both, but if I am playing on easy I don't know what would make them hard. Maybe monster fights are harder and possibly requests are more difficult to fulfill? I would probably recommend Ryza 2 for new players. It's more accessible with the alchemy synthesis. Plus you can swim underwater.
You 100% got me into Atelier, Death end 1&2, and basically IF/Compile Heart/Gust games in general. These people are just putting out hidden gem after hidden gem and I'm grateful to your channel for introducing me to them.

You got me into Atleier, I started with all 3 Ryza games and bought them all on Switch AND PlayStation 🫣🤭. I LOVED them all but 2 and 3 were just so so so good. I bought this game just because of this review and I consistently come back to this video so that I make sure I play it. I keep getting new games and it keeps slipping under them. Atelier Sophie 2's release made me really look into the franchise for the first time today. Doing so brought me to your channel for the first time. I watched all of your Atelier reviews and this series seems mechanically and visually right up my alley. I actually love the synthesis in this one! It's the colorful puzzle pieces from the Mysterious trilogy, but with some added ways to connect and strengthen the pieces. I've been so addicted to it 🥰😊

YES, I can confirm I've been fully converted by Ircha! Randomly came across one of your Atelier reviews, got intrigued about Ryza 1 and LOVED it. Fast forward, I now have Ryza 1&2, Lulua, the Mysterious Trilogy and just got Sophie 2. I even have 2 Premium Boxes now! There is no coming back
I might try this one. I played the Iris games when they came out. Ryza brought me back and I just finished 3. 2 is my favorite by far, the npc quests made the city feel so lived in.
I find it interesting that you rate the newer Atelier games positively because a lot of long term fans are more critical of the newer games. It's great the your appreciate the entire series. I loved Ryza 2 the most so far and look forward to playing this one. While I am enjoying the older Ayesha game from the Dusk Triology it seems like the series is improving and evolving, not getting worse.
Recently converted to the Nintendo Switch, which has helped me a lot when I was in the hospital, after playing through Zelda I stumbled upon a review of Atelier Ryza 2 and I am getting to the end. I never knew there were other Atelier games. Learned something new!

In regards to content and length. It is for $60. Only problem is tht there are so many. Look, I am not defending the price point since its expensive for me and I havent played it. Bur it most definitely is expensive. But the price point makes sense

I have the first Atelier Sophie, I'll definitely be getting this one too. Also a long time fan, since the mid 2000s. The first I played was Atelier Iris 3 on the PS2, and from there I have gone back and played 2, and most of the series since. A ton of fun.

I just finished Sophie 2 two days ago, it was so good! Story-wise this is perhaps the best one I've experienced from Atelier games (I've played all of Arland subseries, Mysterious subseries, Ayesha, and both Ryza games). Gust really put so much effort in making Sophie 2 a more story-driven game, compared to Sophie's more character-driven story. All of the characters genuinely had connections with each other and loveable. The graphics are- oh so good! I especially love how much facial expressions were put in the characters this time and so many times I cracked up from Sophie's expressions 😂 All in all, I think Sophie 2 is slightly better than Ryza 2. While I kinda missed some of the exploration mechanics like swimming and climbing, I definitely do not miss that awkward rear-angle shot when Ryza needs to crawl through walls. Though I believe that's specifically made for Ryza for her... developed form. I'm glad Sophie 2 doesn't have that mechanic because I can't afford to see Sophie like that (she's my first Atelier protagonist and I don't like to see her being sexualised).
Would you recommend starting out with Sophie first before Ryza? I’m a newbie to the series but I’ve heard many praises for both Sophie and Ryza 🙋🏻♀️ also, would you mind sharing how long are the gameplays for each game in general?
@@DulyDullahan if you wanna play a relaxed and character-driven story, I would recommend Sophie. It is much simpler than Ryza in terms of combat, synthesizing mechanics and the story is not as convoluted. Though I have to say Ryza wraps its story and game much better than Sophie does.

I did start playing Atelier games based on your review of the original Ryza game but was not as fond of the older games though I did buy some of them and actually owned an Atelier game from my PS3 days that I never got in to... Right now I'm playing Sophie 2 and enjoying it. I played bits of Firis, Totori, Lydia, Lulua, and of course a bit of the original Sophie. The only ones I really liked are both Ryza and the new Sophie 2.
Irene, me too, was introduced to the atelier series by you. I found a second hand Lydie and Suelle so I got it and loved it but I had to ask my nine year old to do the bosses for me, I totally suck at combat. I have preordered Sophie 2, I’ll get it next month, I went to check my game shop. They said next month. Will be worth the wait! I’ve been waiting for you review on Sophie 2 even though I knew it would be good lol.

I am almost done with Sophie 2 and it's the first game I've played in the series and fell in love with it. It's such a relaxing and charming game. Which ones would you suggest a newcomer like me would play next? I have been eyeing the Atelier Dusk series on the Switch but missed out on the EShop Sale 😅

This game is oddly addictive. I started ryza 2, but was busy with elden ring lol but gave this a genuine try, and it’s pretty great! Really enjoying the cozy vibe.

I usually avoid JRPG's but I saw this review and thought I'd give it a go (thanks!!). I still have no idea what's going on but I'm really enjoying it so far. I really want to like more JRPG's and excet for Child of Light(for it's excellent mechanic), Ni No Kuni(because Studio Ghibli) and Monster Sancturary(just because) excluded, almost every other turn-based JRPG has failed to cross some sort of barrier. I'm still working out what that is, when I figure out what is so enganging with this game, I might be closer to figuring that out.
Only like 6h in but i love it so much! Way more than Ryza. I also use auto synthesising, really convenient (unlike in ryza). I agree with everything you say in your review. They nailed it, can't wait to progress the story!

I just went back to Rorona and like how easy it is to figure out what to do next. I'm in year 3 and did the minimum requirements of the main assignment. I'm doing them in order because I finally have them all on switch.
Yep I got into atelier because of you Irene. I am still waiting to get my copy in the mail. I like ryzas fusion synthesis system but I like the older battle system and not the active style..its great for ryza but I think they ruined blue reflection with it. So I've heard that they are considering doing English VA again but fans need to make that known they want it. I also don't see anywhere on the eshop the bgm pack they used to offer for free for Sophie 2 either.
I disagree. I like the battle system in BR and the Japanese acting makes it feel like more of a jrpg to me. A big reason I play these games is for my love of Japan. It wouldn’t be the same if it was developed in another country. Plus subs are more like reading a book so you get something good for you in the process : )
@@dogsarebetterproductions I've played thousands of games and a little variety doesn't hurt. Maybe if they would spell check games better with English text only. I've grown tired of the countless errors. We pay money for that and at this point if companies like koei tecmo keep up their crappy practices it's only going to hurt devs like gust. Second light even flopped in Japan and for good reason. Because KT. No one like rushed overpriced buggy games.

This is my first Atelier since Meruru. Loving it so far. So happy they ditched the time limit. Now these games are perfection. Def going to play Blue Reflection Second, Ryza 2, Fairy Tail. And can't wait for the next Atelier.

I loved the first Sophie, currently playing it. I love how relaxing and chill the game is. I am disappointed that jrpg games rarely have english voice over these days. I will need to check Sophie 2 out when I am finish the first one.

I have the first Atelier Sophie, I'll definitely be getting this one too. Also a long time fan, since the mid 2000s. The first I played was Atelier Iris 3 on the PS2, and from there I have gone back and played 2, and most of the series since. A ton of fun.

I just finished Sophie 2 two days ago, it was so good! Story-wise this is perhaps the best one I've experienced from Atelier games (I've played all of Arland subseries, Mysterious subseries, Ayesha, and both Ryza games). Gust really put so much effort in making Sophie 2 a more story-driven game, compared to Sophie's more character-driven story. All of the characters genuinely had connections with each other and loveable. The graphics are- oh so good! I especially love how much facial expressions were put in the characters this time and so many times I cracked up from Sophie's expressions 😂
All in all, I think Sophie 2 is slightly better than Ryza 2. While I kinda missed some of the exploration mechanics like swimming and climbing, I definitely do not miss that awkward rear-angle shot when Ryza needs to crawl through walls. Though I believe that's specifically made for Ryza for her... developed form. I'm glad Sophie 2 doesn't have that mechanic because I can't afford to see Sophie like that (she's my first Atelier protagonist and I don't like to see her being sexualised).
Would you recommend starting out with Sophie first before Ryza? I’m a newbie to the series but I’ve heard many praises for both Sophie and Ryza 🙋🏻♀️ also, would you mind sharing how long are the gameplays for each game in general?
@@DulyDullahan if you wanna play a relaxed and character-driven story, I would recommend Sophie. It is much simpler than Ryza in terms of combat, synthesizing mechanics and the story is not as convoluted. Though I have to say Ryza wraps its story and game much better than Sophie does.
@@nagatsukinura8117 oh! In that case I’ll probably start with Sophie since Ryza was a bit complicated for me to get into. Then I’ll go back to Ryza once I get a feel for how the Atelier games are like. Thanks for the input 😁
Haha bought atelier Ryza 2 (switch) , Firis (ps4) and nights of azure 2 because of you. Want to get nights of azure 1, but its quite expensive in my country.
I did start playing Atelier games based on your review of the original Ryza game but was not as fond of the older games though I did buy some of them and actually owned an Atelier game from my PS3 days that I never got in to... Right now I'm playing Sophie 2 and enjoying it. I played bits of Firis, Totori, Lydia, Lulua, and of course a bit of the original Sophie. The only ones I really liked are both Ryza and the new Sophie 2.

Irene, me too, was introduced to the atelier series by you. I found a second hand Lydie and Suelle so I got it and loved it but I had to ask my nine year old to do the bosses for me, I totally suck at combat. I have preordered Sophie 2, I’ll get it next month, I went to check my game shop. They said next month. Will be worth the wait! I’ve been waiting for you review on Sophie 2 even though I knew it would be good lol.

I am almost done with Sophie 2 and it's the first game I've played in the series and fell in love with it. It's such a relaxing and charming game.

This game is oddly addictive. I started ryza 2, but was busy with elden ring lol but gave this a genuine try, and it’s pretty great! Really enjoying the cozy vibe.

I love the Atelier series (have all previous ones on ps4) and Sophie 2 is the first i'm playing on Switch Lite. Very impressed by it. Runs well and nice to play the series on handheld. :)
I usually avoid JRPG's but I saw this review and thought I'd give it a go (thanks!!). I still have no idea what's going on but I'm really enjoying it so far. I really want to like more JRPG's and excet for Child of Light(for it's excellent mechanic), Ni No Kuni(because Studio Ghibli) and Monster Sancturary(just because) excluded, almost every other turn-based JRPG has failed to cross some sort of barrier. I'm still working out what that is, when I figure out what is so enganging with this game, I might be closer to figuring that out.
Only like 6h in but i love it so much! Way more than Ryza. I also use auto synthesising, really convenient (unlike in ryza).

I just went back to Rorona and like how easy it is to figure out what to do next. I'm in year 3 and did the minimum requirements of the main assignment. I'm doing them in order because I finally have them all on switch.
I'm loving the atelier games and sum of that is down to you now I just need to import the trilogies from Japan for my physical collection

Yep I got into atelier because of you Irene. I am still waiting to get my copy in the mail. I like ryzas fusion synthesis system but I like the older battle system and not the active style..its great for ryza but I think they ruined blue reflection with it. So I've heard that they are considering doing English VA again but fans need to make that known they want it. I also don't see anywhere on the eshop the bgm pack they used to offer for free for Sophie 2 either.
I disagree. I like the battle system in BR and the Japanese acting makes it feel like more of a jrpg to me. A big reason I play these games is for my love of Japan. It wouldn’t be the same if it was developed in another country. Plus subs are more like reading a book so you get something good for you in the process : )
@@dogsarebetterproductions I've played thousands of games and a little variety doesn't hurt. Maybe if they would spell check games better with English text only. I've grown tired of the countless errors. We pay money for that and at this point if companies like koei tecmo keep up their crappy practices it's only going to hurt devs like gust. Second light even flopped in Japan and for good reason. Because KT. No one like rushed overpriced buggy games.
I picked up Atelier Aophie 2 for the PS4. I missed out on a lot of the Atelier games so I am no longer going to miss anymore.

This is my first Atelier since Meruru. Loving it so far. So happy they ditched the time limit. Now these games are perfection. Def going to play Blue Reflection Second, Ryza 2, Fairy Tail. And can't wait for the next Atelier.

I'm so happy because the first Atelier Sophie is the only Atelier game I've ever played ! It's kind of funny how I've only played the Sophie games. So glad to see that the sequel is very good !
Currently juggling so many games but I'm always surprised how well sophie 2 looks compared to the first one. I still need to finish the first one but I can't wait to start this one

I loved the first Sophie, currently playing it. I love how relaxing and chill the game is. I am disappointed that jrpg games rarely have english voice over these days. I will need to check Sophie 2 out when I am finish the first one.

I only played Atelier Escha & Logy years ago but I really like what I see in this game.
This atelier game has got to have one of the most amazing gameplay experiences, even if I am still not a fan of the synthesis (my favorite being from shallie)
