Kind of fun to have to come up with a work wardrobe that's completely different from what you usually wear! I would have no problem with it cause black is one of my best colors. I like your approach introducing textures and different silhouettes to keep it fun. One of my first pieces would be a midi a-line skirt that goes with everything. either woven, or a luxurious knit with a yoga waistband that you can use year round and feel put together yet comfortable.
Thanks so much! Great suggestion on the skirt (and fabric)- that is definitely on my list! I do like how I look in black- so this will be a fun challenge!
I can understand your colourful weekend choices! I used to wear white and love to wear and sew colour now I'm no longer nursing. I've even gotten into making my own colourful bras. Have you ever made your own lingerie? Congratulations on the job too.
Thanks so much! Work really makes a difference in what your sewing and wearing. Love the idea of adding color in undergarments! I haven't sewn much lingerie- it's not my favorite thing to sew but I may rethink that. Thanks for the great ideas!
Congrats on the new job!!!! Great Christmas present from the Cosmos!!! I love seeing what you're going to be doing with your new fabrics. Can't wait to see what you do with them.
Wow sounds like things are really changing for you. Black and navy look awesome paired together. You have some nice pieces and some great plans. I really love that one ready to wear top with all the texture and think you could dress that down with a more relaxed bottom and shoes for an every day work look. I have been retired for some time but I do love dressing up when I can. I am currently sewing a little bag pattern I picked up on the free table at my quilt guild. I am trying to figure out what to make with two pieces of fleece from my stash as we are in full blown winter with snow on the ground and Temps in the morning in the teens. I just packed away all my spring/summer/and fall clothes and only have the winter stuff out till about next April.
I agree, black and navy are a classic combination! I’ll take your advice and try that top with a more casual pant. The bag sounds great for some relaxed winter sewing. Stay warm!
Congratulations on the new job. The last time I had opportunity to watch was when you were making the blazer and pants set to interview in. Nice pieces. It will be interesting to see the work ensembles you put together with such a limited color palette. I am retired, mostly, now, but still having to restrain myself from wanting to make the type of clothes I wore for work. My lifestyle is much more casual now. Having finished sewing the gifts I planned, I am preparing to sew one to three winter coats. I will need to create linings for at least two of the patterns. I have all my fabrics and notions. I just need to get in motion now 😊
Thanks Rhonda! I'm really liking the pieces I've made so far for work. It is challenging since it's so far out of my comfort zone color wise. Well done finishing up your holiday sewing! Have fun making those coats! Having all your supplies ready to go should make the sewing go smoothly. Happy sewing!
Fantastic video with some great content regarding patterns and fabric matching. Monochrome means design really matters and you have selected a great assortment of patterns. Just ordered the Copelia cardigan pattern as well as the vogue dress pattern you have on. Such a flattering dress - strikingly different from that shown on the envelope in your navy ponte. Please take care and don’t burn out. You’ve got a great start on your wardrobe already! I’m working on the Ivy skirt by Sewoverit, which is a mock wrap you might enjoy. ❤❤❤ Suzanne
Thanks so much Suzanne! I'll have to take a look at the skirt pattern- I’ve been on the lookout. Trying to take it easy- I’m taking this week off from filming. Happy sewing!
Looks like we've on the same wavelength this week! I have the swing jacket pinned to my Pinterest board, and I just got the same black fabric from Blackbird in the mail today. I'm planning to make the Tropical Research Lazy Tee (long sleeved) with mine. I live in Montana, so 50 sounds warm. 😂 Really looking forward to seeing all your makes!
We definitely are! My fabric is set to arrive today- I can’t wait! I checked out the pattern- that will look great! 50 is super chilly for me. Stay warm! Thanks so much Jean!
Congratulations on your new job. I am currently making a blouse, Simplicity S9470, View A. I am also making a Winter jacket, McCall's M8019, View B. If I have enough fabric leftover, I will make a hat to match.
I love your plans! So chic! I wear mostly knits at work but more formal even though they are knit. I am recently loving the Pattern Emporium Urban Pants in the wide leg version in a nice ponte-it has darts for the back pants piece.
Congrats on your new job! I absolutely love the dress that you are wearing.
Thanks so much! I'm really enjoying it. I do love the dress- I'm always excited to pull it out when the weather cools down. Happy sewing!
Congratulations on your new job. I think it'll be interesting to see a new type of wardrobe for you.
Thanks so much! I do think it's going to be fun to sew something a bit different and out of my usual comfort zone.

Congratulations on your new job. I love all your outfits. There's something about the navy that's really bringing out your eyes. Have fun!
Thanks so much Belinda! I appreciate it!

I’m always looking for a good knit pant pattern so I’ll definitely check that one out! Thanks so much!
Love your plans!❤
Thanks so much Eileen!
Can you add colour with scarves or belts, etc?
They really don’t want us to, the point is for us all to look consistent. I’ll just save color for my days off!
