I owned three of them. One Shotgun figured Side by Side, changable Merkel Sidelocks, English Stock, the next is a Haenel, build up in 1950 with Kersten Chamber including controlpins and the as third a combined Büchsflinte with changable Shotgun Barrels. Eyery works shotshells and Slugs too, from factory shooted in. They are older then me, but works perfectly. Old school and eyewidnesses of traditional Art of Gunsmith. I will never change.
I own a basic Merkel 140-1 double I. 30 O6. It’s an older rifle, well used and in beautiful condition. It is wonderful to shoot. Nothing compares to shooting a high quality double. This one is the pride of my many rifles and everything you said about them is spot on. Thanks for a lovely video. BTW love that jacket you are wearing. Where do you get one?
I have a Krieghoff and a Merkel only for driven Boar Hunting, both Rifles are very good. I like the Jacket you wear in the Video, can you give some information about it?
Field craft, hmmm, that must be English for stalking. My grandfather taught me how to stalk but nowadays so many younger hunters use 300 magnums and overpowered scopes for ridiculously long ranges. That’s not hunting, it’s target practice on living creatures, absolutely no field craft or stalking involved! That SxS Merkel is a great hunting rifle to be used by a real hunter! Beautiful piece of work, thanks for sharing!
Had one 20 years ago in 470 and was no good must have been made after Octoberfest ,most inaccurate rifle and expensive i ever owned ,engraving by a hungover leaner ,how it got out the door i will never know

Virtually totally unaffordable, except for the extremely rich, but what a beautiful rifle. Over priced yes, the people that build them are the reason they're over priced you can buy a brand new automobile engine for $8000 with massive amounts of machining, etc. involved, these are very simple pieces of machinery, and the price is absolutely Insane. I would love to see Ruger or Remington attack this double rifle scandal and make a beautiful double rifle in 300 win mag on up to the 458 no one can tell me it is that expensive to make these rifles $10,000-$20,000 apiece, you could buy a fucking airplane engine for that amount of money. It's all bullshit.

Yeah. I'd want stainless steel trim and silver inlays. However, the true value of a gun is how it shoots, not how it looks.

Ruger chambered the number 1 in many cals. Had a good african mod 77 too but ruger always stops making their good items
Also ruger does too much casting now
