That's a stunningly beautiful single-shot rifle chambered in my favorite caliber, *7 × 57mm Mauser.* The most accurate rifle that I have ever owned was a sporterized, Model 1895, 7 × 57mm Chilean Mauser that was once the personal firearm of a Vietnam War veteran Special Forces sniper. He was a Mormon from Salt Lake City and the rifle was his father's work, who was a world class gunsmith. The rifle came with a military ammo can full to the brim containing 26 separate handloads that his father had developed, along with a small spiral bound notebook containing all of the pertinent load data. I purchased it in 1978 when I was in the military at Ft. Lewis, Washington for $150.00. That rifle was capable of sub-M.O.A. accuracy with all 26 handloads, with the worst measuring just under 3/4" at 100 yards for 5 shots. Unfortunately, I subsequently sold that rifle but it remains in the top of my list of the five best firearms that I have ever owned.
Absolute work of art! 😮 You seem to be one of the most honest, humble, genuine people on RUclips. Makes me smile just seeing your appreciation for a great firearm. Your wife sure is a keeper!😊
Congratulations on a wonderful Wife Ron!! The rifle is Beautiful for sure, definitely is showing your wifes heart and that made this video your best ever!!
I am very glad you are going to use it. I think every rifle is a work of art, but the greatest expression of its art is through its function. A svelte classy single shot wins the day...everyday
Think I was equally as excited seeing you unveil that beauty Ron !! In fact I bet many of us gun guys who still love blued steel, walnut stocks ,cut checkering and overall beautiful craftsmanship…. had a grin from ear to ear watching you admire that rifle … congrats sir 👍👍👍
Wow, what a beautiful piece of workmanship! You also picked one of my all-time favorite calibers, the 7 * 57 mauser. It would be hard to come up with a finer combination. Between you, your wife, and the craftsman at Park West, that is one awesome firearm. I hope you enjoy it for many years to come! Thank you for sharing this with us, Rat
Gorgeous. I have a Ruger #1 in 7 x 57 Mauser with a full Mannlicher style stock. It’s the ‘poor man’s’ version of what you have there. The bone case hardening is so beautiful. A nice Swarovski or Zeiss, maybe Nightforce scope would be a great accoutrement. You have indeed a very special rifle. Mind you, just be careful, 7mm Mauser might be a bit light for an Eland bull. Thanks for sharing this magic moment with us. My late wife was also as kind and generous as your beloved.
Hello Ron congratulation for this beauty and i as a German salute you for 7x57 this Round will allways have a special Place in my Heart so many great and special Memories First Roe Buck, First Red Stag, First Wildboar all with the old Drilling from my Grandpa
What a strikingly beautiful piece of wood - anyone would be proud to have a work of art like that rifle. I have a Ruger #1 with an exceptional piece of wood - not like THAT, but still beautiful, chambered in .25.06 - and I swear I'd almost rather look at it than shoot it. For those who appreciate what an exceptional piece of walnut transforms into when an oil or other finish sinks deeply into that grain, it can't help but put a smile on your face. Congratulations on the latest addition to your art collection.
Wow, that’s a beauty! And it’s chambered in 7x57, doesn’t get any better! Ron, your wife treated you right! Best wishes for your future hunts with this rifle! A beauty!
Ron, you are just about the last of the great old school gun writers. Great looking old school gun as well. No plastic, no “mimed” parts. I enjoy your content in the videos you make.
I am so happy for you! You brought back some wonderful memories and as I'm watching this I have a huge smile on my face. My mouth was hanging open the whole video. Huge big smiles! You are such a nice guy. I'm very happy for you. And your lovely wife Betsy! She's a keeper! Plus you Just uploaded this. Wow! I feel so privileged! Can't wait to share in your adventures! God bless!
My grandfather said to save for what you need. Then save a little more and buy the best. That is old school craftsmanship and will be treasured for generations.
Old school dude here. Beautiful craftsman ship. Love the caliber, the wood, custom touches. Even Jack O'Connor would be impressed. But your expression was the best. Just like a kid on Christmas day! Thank you!
That is an exceptionally nice rifle. Something I noticed that I do not believe has been mentioned: One the right side, there is a curved dark line in the grain of the fore end that is stopped where the wood meets the action. Another dark line is present where the butt stock meets the action. It is as if the dark line in the grain flows from the fore end to the butt stock. I don't know if this was done on purpose, but to me it is an exceptionally cool effect that adds to the beauty of the rifle.
If at all possible, please video the factory tour. I was able to obtain my mentor’s most beautiful rifle (my opinion) a Dakota Arms Model 10 Deluxe in .270 Win. He always praised the craftsmanship and attention to detail of these rifles. He has since passed, and I have tried to gather as much information on the company and the rifle I own. I have spoken with their team for many inquiries now and they could not be more helpful. I would love to see the intricacies of their process and the people who make these works of art a reality.
I’m not a single shot gun type of guy, but I am a beautiful rifle kind of guy. Sir, you have one fine looking rifle. Can’t wait to see how it progresses.
Beautiful rifle in a perfect caliber. I love single shots. I've owned 8, 11 if I can count pistols. There's just something about their slender, simple, elegance. The very short action which easily allows 2 to 4" longer barrels is another plus. I wouldn't select a SS for hunting Brown bear in cover, but for anything that doesn't bite, they are great to carry & can be reloaded surprisingly quickly.with practice. A properly stocked one, with the scope properly positioned & mounted will come to the shoulder as quickly as a shotgun. Do you have other single shots that you hunt with?
What a beautiful, functional, work of art!! Color case hardening is just the icing on the cake. As soon as you exposed the wood on the stock, my jaw dropped!! Enjoy it immensely!
Lovely Rifle there Ron , your choice of 7×57 took me back a bit, that is what i did most of my hunting with in Zimbabwe an excellent cartridge my Zastava never , let me down, my falling block was a Ruger No1 in 300 weatherby mag, them baboons had no chance even at 400mtrs but a few too many shots left you with a stiff neck for some days, thank you for your podcasts most enjoyable.
Thank you for sharing your unabashed delight with this rifle. It is a work of art and I hope you can share some of your future times with it. Your wife is a treasure to make this a very special rifle for you.
Wonderful piece of art and in one of my personal favorite cartridges too 7x57. The 7x57 has always been a LUCKY CARTRIDGE FOR ME. WHAT A STALKING RIFLE. YOU BET I WOULD HUNT WITH IT MYSELF. A classic my wife let me get a V/C .450-400 3" Double Rifle wonderful weapon case colors which I love as well. Both of us are blessed with wonderful wives.
W0W! Gorgeous rifle Ron! Love a big bore single shot. The excitement and the look on your face is incredible.....almost like seeing your first child being born! Great video! 👍We all love your wife! ❤
For all the bells and whistles some rifles have, I have found myself becoming increasingly attracted to the idea of a single shot rifle. Something about their simplicity lends them a certain timelessness. Probably will have to be a break action rather than falling block in my current price range but I would love a falling block one day
Darn! That woman loves you! Fell in love with Dakota Arms in the '90s. Sadly, my pocket wouldn't allow such extravagance. Now is a different story. Thought they were gone. Will be in Stugis in a few weeks (three hours from home). Had a semi custom #1B years ago in 338. Still kicking my butt for trading it. Love your new tool.
My very early Browning Model 78 in .25/06 is the most beautiful, solidest and most classic rifle I've seen in person. Your new rifle takes that to a higher level.
That is truly a beautiful rifle. What a rifle should be -- hardwood, blued steel and case color hardening. Falling block single shots are my absolute favorite rifles.
Personally I've always been a form and function guy.... but that right there is absolutely beautiful. Congratulations Ron. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Your excitement sure comes out in this video lol. Absolutely gorgeous
We both share the same first name and are the same age and I've beenbfolowing you whenever You wrote anything I still enjoy listening to you and watching you these days. That is one beautiful rifle I am jealous for sure ... go get some real life on it and please share all you can thanks for always being there Ron. From Ron.
Congratulations!! Beautiful specimen of a firearm. I love single shot rifles. Ruger #1 used to be my favorite; now.........the jury is out based on your new rifle.
Ron, A near perfect caliber / cartridge ( if there Is such a thing, everyone has different criteria ). I shoot a Win Mod 70 Featherweight in My preferred caliber: .280 Rem. Mr. Bell took elephant and showed us it's all about Placement. Happy hunting. ☆
Jerry Fisher told me “Life's too short to hunt with an ugly rifle”. RIP Jerry, and Ron you have really got some work ahead of you to thank your wife for that one lol. What a gorgeous piece of walnut and exemplary craftsmanship.
Very nice Ron i feel the same about my sako75 walnut stainless 7mm08 and my sako75 deluxe walnut 7mm08 5 shot smooth as glass bolt actions, ive got a spare stainless sako75 7mm08 barrel also if i need it or my sons, as always hunt honest and shoot straight 🤠
I got so involved in your excitement and joy....absolutely LOVED the video. And what a firearm, oh baby! I can't wait to see the upcoming videos. Betsy, you're the best!
Ron, your append enthusiasm are genuine and infectious. Thanks for sharing! I’m looking forward to watching you deveythis craftsmanship built rifle. ✌️
I remember my first shotgun. My grandpa got if for me as a confirmation present. The story of how he came to own it along with 23 shells from the initial box that the guy bought when he bought the shotgun was worth more that the gun was worth when he gave it to me. He traded a case of beer for the gun and ammo, then he sat down and helped the former owner polish off the case of beer. That gun is now semi retired and only shot ever other year or so.
Congratulations Ron! Not just for the rifle, but also for your amazing wife!

The look on your face Ron!! A kid in a candy store. Beautiful rifle and your wife is definitely a keeper!

You're about as excited as the kid from "Christmas Story" when he got his Red Ryder BB gun. That's a beautiful rifle.
Mr. Spomer that is one more beautiful rifle fit for a rifleman of your caliber. Congratulations and thank you for not believing in safe queens.
The rifle is simply stunning!
Absolutely beautiful! Ron your joy is wonderful to see!
Ron it's well deserved, you're a awesome person,and a inspiration to many, well done!!! Congratulations, she's a beauty 😍
Absolutely gorgeous piece of art
To have a knife that matches the beautiful wood and steel on that rifle would be real choice
On a handmade Damascus blade
Ron that is beautiful.
Work of art, is an understatment!😮
That wood is just wow.
Nice to know there are still American gun makers who still build pieces of art. Congratulations Ron!

Sorry. None.
You know when a guy like Ron who has seen and shot almost every hunting rifle made in the last 50 yrs is excited it's gotta be amazing.
Holy smokes. You had me when you could just see the wood of the stock. What a beautiful piece of art. Magnificent!
My grandfather said to save for what you need. Then save a little more and buy the best. That is old school craftsmanship and will be treasured for generations.
The look on your face as you took it out of the sock: priceless!
I am living vicariously thru you Ron. That gun is awesome. Just awesome. thank you for all your videos. Your the best.😊
Christmas in April. Congratulations on your dream gun Sir. 7x57 Mauser...excellent choice. Enjoy.
Beautiful Rifle ! I am glad to hear you will be hunting with it ! Enjoy !!
Beautiful rifle. I was smiling watching how excited you were.
Truly a beaitiful rifle. Color case hardened, to me, is always the best option. The grain on the wood is phenominal. A beautiful rifle.
what else can one say other than WOW!!!!
Congratulations , Ron. Great Show.
Truly a work of art Ron. Hope it brings years of pleasure and memories!
7mm mauser is a wonderful medium game round.
Wow! What a wonderful gift! In a world of synthetic stocks its so nice to see some incredible wood!
Old school dude here. Beautiful craftsman ship. Love the caliber, the wood, custom touches. Even Jack O'Connor would be impressed. But your expression was the best. Just like a kid on Christmas day! Thank you!

I'm jealous. Very happy for you
I love everything about this rifle. Chambering choice is EXACTLY what I would have chosen too!
thats the most beautiful stock ive ever seen!
Looks like bocote. A very durable wood, perfect for something to be used out in the weather.
That's a GORGEOUS Rifle Ron. Live you show, good luck on your trip, stay safe and shoot straight my friend.

Good choice of caliber for a very sweet rifle.

Talk about a beautiful combination
The BEAUTIFUL STEEL
The GORGEOUS WOOD
The AMAZING COLORS
The BEST CALIBER EVER INVENTED
Congrats!!!!
You deserve it
Just an absolutely beautiful rifle. I'm 74 and if I could have only one rifle it would look like that. Chambering would be 7X57 or 6.5X55.
I really envy you that rifle. I love single shot rifles, and it is great to know there is a company still making such an elegant piece.
Oh that Case Hardening is beautiful. Every manufacturer should have that option..
Beautiful piece of craftsmanship.
I have a Ruger No. 1 that was my Dad's in 7x57. Brought back memories for me!
What a beautiful, functional, work of art!! Color case hardening is just the icing on the cake. As soon as you exposed the wood on the stock, my jaw dropped!! Enjoy it immensely!
That 7x57 Mauser rifle is a tribute to a Classic Stalking Rifle.

When you said 7x57 my heart skipped a beat , WOW

My very early Browning Model 78 in .25/06 is the most beautiful, solidest and most classic rifle I've seen in person. Your new rifle takes that to a higher level.
That is just one incredible looking rifle. You are a lucky man to hunt with that one. I am sure you will update all of us if looks match performance.
So good to see your appreciation for a fine firearm. I am not alone.
Nice Rifle, man,and good choice on the cartridge ,too!!
That stock is beautiful.

that is an absolutely fine piece. you married a keeper for sure!
The sheer GLEE on your face as you blushed and touched your cheek upon that first gaze...It looked like you just fell in love! Totally understandable!
Wow. That is truly lovely. The wood is *chef's kiss*.
2:56 Reminds me of the 20 Ga. shotgun my grandfather once gave me with a Leopard Koa stock, just gorgeous.
I remember my first shotgun. My grandpa got if for me as a confirmation present.
