All are solid set ups. As a smaller statured 5'8"ish guy, I prefer the 11.5" with a can or 14.5" if running loud. MOE+ and reverse BCM foregrip. Keep em hot my dudes!

The angle back for-grip orientation is the way. It's a natural way to use it with the modified C grip and you can get behind it with force if something needs to get knocked down. Anyone that disagrees needs to get saved.

@@1911syndicate Mil-spec triggers suck, but they are also perfectly serviceable.
After years of shooting, I just this month installed my first after-market AR trigger.
Of course now I have MBT-2s triggers in all my AR's so maybe don't listen to people who are too lazy, ambivalent or just plain apathetic about easily customizable aspects of gear/kit.
Cool shooting spot fellas. I remember when I lived in Juab County, Utah there were so many places to go just a few minutes outside of town and rattle off some rounds.

Wish y'all would have said what light mounts y'all used. Have a rein micro on 14.5 BCM and need it TUCKED upper right side tucked in gap between top 1913 and first "slot" down from it. I was the BCM one but they stay out of stock. Like some of the ones y'all run.
For the record, the three of y'all say "prefer" and/or derivatives thereof a total of 73 times in this video (I'm doing a liver cancer speed-run).

I think the reason you like old metal mags is because if you lose them in the desert during reloads, no big deal, LOL (Frankly I hate losing mags, but I have a lot of older surplus aluminum mags I train with for that very reason. I should paint them orange.)
I don't have any drinks with me, but I wanted to go and and track the count, so let's see how this would go - 7 drinks by the 5min mark, 17 by the end of the first rifle, +1 in the sponsor, a blazing 5 in three seconds at 17:40 so I guess just finish whatever glass you're on by now in honor of that one, and that puts us all the way up to a whole 39 sips so far, 20 of which go into BF's rifle. Into the last rig now, we're apparently spite-drinking now, bringing us up to a majestically perfect 69 by the end of the 3rd rifle, a whole 30 sips just by itself. But that's not where it stops if you're carrying through the entire video (if you're still even conscious), with two more coming in at the end for a grand total of 71 sips/shots.
All in all, great to see y'all getting together and breaking down your setups with each other, even if Jake's preferred setup seems to be a grab-bag I guess that just goes to show that "it's the indian not the arrow."

Y'all should seriously consider all going to 16 or 18s since you live in the mountain west with lots of open territory. Shorties have their use especially for home defense but in that case a red dot and known offset are really the most important things.
They live in the city though 🤷🏻♂️
Honestly, I think anyone outside of heavily urban environments is probably better served by a 16 minimum. I don’t have anything shorter and I’m in a semi-rural (more rural than suburbs because everyone has acres out here but it’s all small acres) wooded area.
I think you should be able to own whatever you want but it just doesn’t feel practical to me personally to go shorter.
Until you try to suppress a 16” or longer rifle. It gets ridiculously long and front heavy at 16”
If you actually run heavy 5.56 bullets and can shoot accurately at distance, extra barrel length certainly helps. I'd still posit that civilian shootings VERY rarely exceed distances where velocity makes much difference, and most people run bullets that are sub-optimal at mid/long range. If you need extended range capability (300m+), maybe run a different cartridge, as well.

The truth of the matter is people think that if shtf that they and a couple of buddies are going to be clearing structures, so they all want the shortest setup they can get. In reality the smart ones will be defending their homes sitting in a corner waiting on intruders and will be wanting to engage from a distance, gorilla warfare. Those are the ones that will have the advantage over the ones thinking they will be doing cqb. With that in mind I'll take a 16 inch all day, better to reach out with more effectiveness,ballistic don't lie. Magnification with a red dot how ever you choose to mount it.
