In the book Tyler asks Jack for some driver's licenses as a test, alone he addresses Raymond as Jack, says the words as Jack (and even comments that he feels Tyler saying them) but he is not Jack, he is Tyler, Fincher's perspective in this scene is very sharp, the duality between two personalities and being able to put this into the scene is brilliant

Watch the movie again. Tyler used chaos, but always for good. Holding somebody at gun point and scaring them shitless also releases something in them that was dormant. The store clerk had a dead end job that he really didnt want but accepted. Tyler shows that our society is completely crazy. He wanted to open the clerks eyes so he would pursue his dreams rather than waste away in a stupid store. Tyler doesnt need or want anything from him other than that he starts living. Selfless. Thats it. Thats all. Chaos for good. All the terrible shit Tyler did was for the sole purpose of making people wake up and do something good with themselves and society.
this movie is out since decades. and today people actually start with the self-improvement stuff thinking its something new. those problems exists since human exists, and the solutions exists since then too. but only a few can follow those solutions.
I’d like to think that in the short term yes he would be severely screwed up. However, after the dust settles and he finds himself working toward his dream and then finally in his dream. The breakfast after he’s a certified vet would be the greatest meal he’s ever had.
Raymon ends up with PTSD from the experience, and from the looming thought of someone going to kill him if he doesn’t go to vet school. The anxiety caused by this pressure cripples his ability to focus and his stress so he can’t achieve school. Genius. Now if Raymond avoided being hit by a train, then he would have the best meal of his life.
That is one way to look at all this. I find this scene oddly inspiring, when I was almost quitting on my dream to be a lawyer and not bother with studying with the LSAT because it was too exhausting after work, I came to this scene religiously. If someone had a gun to my head and told me, you NEED to get into school or you will die, trust me I will put my 120% into it, no excuses. Now, I am in law school 2 years later and I owe a lot to Tyler Durden for that lol.
You´re absolutely right. Indeed it makes sense, in a Tyler sort of way; but the reality of being exposed to such violence does shit to many. It paralyzes you and your next meal may taste mechanical. So as you write the same could be for poor Raymond here.
I wonder what would have happened if Raymond is clueless to answer Tyler's Question, " What did you want to be?", just like me. I need six weeks just to survive Tyler's Question:) He orders Raymond to run for his true self. That is somewhat motivating.
Norton's character isn't Jack... (it's the first time i heard or see that "Jack" is the name of Norton's character) i think the clue of the movie is no one in any moment says norton's character. Remember: "it doesn't have your name, who are you?Corneliuos, Rupert, Travis, any of the stupid names you give each night"
I dont think tyler would have killed him. He never to my recolection killed anyone in the film and even project mayhem didnt lead to any deaths besides bob which wasnt tylers fault really.
Great. So whereas before he was making his way through life on a gas station income, now he can make do with nothing. Brilliant. Everyone regards everyone else's problems as simple.

Thankfully his friends and associates have given me inspiration and resolve to be a much better person. Thank you e9c9 and his associates!!!
Or Raymond could be scared shitless, he forget to eat his breakfast
My favorite part, which also fucks up the storyline, is how would he know to pop open the cylinder
Man, I fucking love that huge theory that Raymond is another personality of Tyler Durden. It has to do with only certain characters being given last names.
Good observation. Robert Paulson… Raymond k hessel.
32 year old college student here. This scene inspired me to do it.
And that's why men love fight club
This works well, he has his back to him, its almost as if the grim reaper was speaking too him. Life changing, life altering.
i need that kinda motivation for uni right now
Put it this way. Whether you live or die literally depends on your success. You have to succeed, otherwise you won’t survive.
i will be an engineer and a physicist.
with this base, the world will be open to me like never before.
i do not care how long it takes.
i have only one life.
i will make it count.
You got this
“The things you own end up owning you”
"cause theres gonna be nothing left of you face" the he says that line kills me every time
In the book Tyler asks Jack for some driver's licenses as a test, alone he addresses Raymond as Jack, says the words as Jack (and even comments that he feels Tyler saying them) but he is not Jack, he is Tyler, Fincher's perspective in this scene is very sharp, the duality between two personalities and being able to put this into the scene is brilliant
Raymond failed school and feared the visit from Tyler for the rest of his life.
^^ lolz RAYMOND F. Hessel.... lolz (It is Sancho Panza or Delos, who is supposed to be the father of Zeus). He also goes by Professor Plum.
El perro rro rro y el gato Toto fueron a buscar al burro rro rro! Y cantaron todos juntos la canción del tototooo!
15 dislikes? i guess it is from that PTSD guy
Memento Mori
All creatures great and small.
I did notice that after a traumatic event, with time, I would rise. My breakfast tasting better like no other.
THE QUESTION, WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE?
Oh, I wish I had an answer for myself.
Tyler : Standing Chad
In a weird way I relate to this scene I mean my life hasn’t been much better due to some stuff😒anyway I want to be better in my existence really Contribute but in the end nothing but pointless meaning🤷🏻♂️What can you do?
What do you do now?
I hope you did something
Looks like you need a Tyler durden to kick your ass
Technically how i feel when i go paranoid
So why did he want him to become a vet? Was it all just to prove a point or did he need him to become a vet so he could use him as a doctor later on
Watch the movie again.
All the terrible shit Tyler did was for the sole purpose of making people wake up and do something good with themselves and society.
this movie is out since decades. and today people actually start with the self-improvement stuff thinking its something new. those problems exists since human exists, and the solutions exists since then too. but only a few can follow those solutions.
i could imagine having a lumberjack slam the next morning
Stuff😭😢😩
2:16 the most memorable quote from this movie
2:15 easter egg
What are you studying
I don't know
What if he studied business and that was his store
2:16 Lol.
I understood that reference
What is the movie name
.
Remember 1 & 2 rules 👿
More like Raymond would have severe PTSD for the rest of his life. Lmao. Love this movie though.
Genius.
Now if Raymond avoided being hit by a train, then he would have the best meal of his life.
add to that he probably was hearing a person talking to him with two voices, the narrator and the Tyler burden voice
Well he had already quit school. So either he succeeds or kills himself. Nothing of value would be lost, society would only have to gain.
The narrator: I feel like shit
What am I so afraid of?
Keep pressing 4 🤣
I wonder what would have happened if Raymond is clueless to answer Tyler's Question, " What did you want to be?", just like me.
I need six weeks just to survive Tyler's Question:)
He orders Raymond to run for his true self. That is somewhat motivating.
@DnB and Psy Production That will be an unconventional dream, I think😄
Too much "stuff" XD XD XD
Jigsaw mentality on life
Norton's character isn't Jack... (it's the first time i heard or see that "Jack" is the name of Norton's character) i think the clue of the movie is no one in any moment says norton's character. Remember: "it doesn't have your name, who are you?Corneliuos, Rupert, Travis, any of the stupid names you give each night"
self improvement is masturbation, improving others is sacrilege
Dreams by Cranberries
I dont think tyler would have killed him. He never to my recolection killed anyone in the film and even project mayhem didnt lead to any deaths besides bob which wasnt tylers fault really.
Wartime generations where most men are vets (Boomers and 2k) : "I don't get it"
bro from nihilsim turned to existentialism
He have german sirname but he is asian
In the book they mentioned he was a white guy, and the narrator was the one doing this, tyler was missing.
Great. So whereas before he was making his way through life on a gas station income, now he can make do with nothing.
Brilliant. Everyone regards everyone else's problems as simple.
Don't try it on depressed people. To them death is not worse than their daily suffering.
Maybe, but wouldn't the desire to die hypothetically be a lot different than having someone point a gun to one's head?
@@ethanh5217 this scene in general maybe is
vet? apartment A . too much school not enough what
The bongos kinda kill the scene.
This scene is actually intended to be funny, not deep. Think about it: how is Raymond K Hessel going to commute to his campus or register as a student without a driver’s license? LOL
Just had this kinda situation. Was trying to get some weed, but since its super illegal here i got caught. While sitting inside the car, cop gave me a choice, either ruined life or all of my money. Best spent 500$
Can confirm, tastiest breakfast ever
I'm gonna sound strange but I'm kind of envious of you
Alabama?
“Original scene”? As in what? Is there a secondary one?
Slide
That mofo better be a vet 🐩
What you do is not who you are.
what you do is what you are tho what you do is not what you wanna be
