What a smooth, beautiful, professional assessment! I was a 17 kid who had joined the US Army in 1972 when I first heard this song during my basic training stage. I don't know if you are familiar with Isaac Hayes,(Black Moses), but he also was a popular artist during that period. They both helped adjust a young brother like myself then get those bearings right back then. Unfortunately, our new generation folks only followed our past artists' beats, but not the message.
Now that's what you call a groove. A groove with a powerful message.
One of the great concept albums... albums in general, of all time.
The Funk Brothers btw, was Motown's secret weapon, playing as they did on most of their biggest hit records. Legendary studio musicians.
This one by marvin just flows like a calm river, and I like to be carried away by it. Nice pick bro.

'What's Going On' (1971): a masterpiece album in the genre and "Inner City Blues", a perfect example of a realistic and socially engaged song ("Make Me Wanna Holler"). And Marvin's voice... WOW!!! Thanks.

Marvin was always awesome, he never disappointed. His music and his voice just flow, they always feel right, pleasant, precisely to the point and ready to hit all the right spots. I have very fond memories of his superb album with Diana Ross, "Diana and Marvin", where it's hard to pick the best duet between those two fabulous singers. The album was a great hit here back in the day and everybody was totally in love with tracks like "You Are Everything" and "Stop, Look, Listen". Hard to tell how many babies resulted from that album! As usual, I'm totally floating on air and feeling happy after listening to Marvin!

Another great new artist! Although I didn’t own any Marvin Gaye, I’m quite familiar with his music. Always a great vibe! Just thinking of bands that have only a single reaction, it’d be nice to hear the likes of Starcastle, Head East, Basia and others again. I know it’s gotta be tough choosing!!
