Quick tips on the glue: 1 The bottle necks need to be cleaned with a paper towel (not tissue) before you put the cap back on each time. This will make the caps seal tighter (longer pot life on the bottle) and easier to remove. 2 The 'Insta Set' is a contact accelerator for the glue, and it persists for many minutes after you spray it. That is why the thin glue did not penetrate like you expected because there still was accelerator on the top piece that you sprayed. CAUTION when you spray one part with accelerator the glue will set the instant it contacts the part, so make sure you have the parts aligned properly before you join them. This cyanoacrylate glue technology is good for PLA, PET and ABS because it also has some solvent in the mix which softens the outer layers of plastic making for a very good bond.
They see me rollin' , they printing. I hope my printer won't stop running. Gotta get troubleshooting Gotta get troubleshooting Gotta get troubleshooting Gotta get troubleshooting

Hi, I watch your videos from good over a year now. I highly appreciate your 3d evangelist and now awesome job on on Video editing . Full professionalism
Ha I did that one a while back. Taulman T-Glase Clear for the iceburg (made for a cool frosty look), Taulman T-Glase Blue for the water (has a nice visual depth), and eSun Brown PLA+ for the ship. Love it! Yours also looks great. :)
It's pretty easy to restart a print as long as it is still attached to the bed, by editing the gcode. Re-home if necessary (if there has been a slip, or power-loss), heat the bed to printing temp, with nozzle cold, or warm (not hot), then position the nozzle above the print, and slowly bring it down until it pretty much touches the print... record the Z height. Next search the gcode for the layer closest to that height, and delete everything back to the start of the first layer (leaving in the homing and temp settings, or you could do them manually before you start). It might be safe to put an extra G0Zxxx (xxx being the start height), to make sure the nozzle doesn't drag through the print on the way up to start. This process works well to recover prints, with only minor fiddling about.
Glad your prusa slicer works. Every print I make a gcode with never sticks to the bed. The other most basic program works without a problem but there's hardly any tweaking.
Glad you like geckotek build surface, I was a backer and use it on my Cetus 3D with its heated plate addon, just with the geckotek directly on that, perfect size too. its a fantastic surface to build on, nice and smooth with good adhesion, when you leave the bed heated it can be tricky to remove delicate prints which are still hot on the plate, but when cooled they pop off easily no problems, never any need for extra adhesives or silly mods with this combo, perfectly reliable prints every time, zero maintenance as they should be.
I have found that using dental floss like a garrotte or wire saw to get stubborn prints off of the build plate has worked well. I’m wondering if you have tried it, Joel. Great video. Thank you for what you do.
Ahh, recovering a failed print. You're glad you aren't wasting plastic, but at the same time if you're anything like me you wonder 'how much better would this be if it hadn't failed here'.
When super gluing anything it’s always a success story when you haven’t managed to glue yourself to yourself or anything else.... keep up the good work
You know what is a good idea try making The Iron Giant but like a huge scale with maybe Motors and a sound box and some servos but that's all up to you if you want to take that on or you could just make them simple jointed but that's not the point I would just really like if you made The Iron Giant
Imagain a starwars one with like a star destroyer wreck! Maybe little tie fighters and X wings wrecked on the bottom! It's be perfect for starward destiny!
A new subscriber here and I would love to see the wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald if that’s possible. The green filament is spectacular. I’ve been binge watching all your stuff you are awesome.
The rectangular shape of a battlestar like Galactica would lend itself to the design or you could do a Death Star with a spiral channel inside to drop the dice out the bottom.
Great video as always, but every time I get a notification of a new 3DPN vid I keep hoping it will be the kodama - furlingtech video. We backers are still in the dark.
Do you make a living making awesome 3D prints? Also, how do you make huge 3d prints like your rad Bullet Bill on your shelf? Does your Printer print that huge or do you make separate pieces and somehow melt them together to get an larger object. Please let me know oh! And one more thing, for an beginner at 3D Printing what 3D Printer should I get? Have an awesome day and hope to talk to you soon.
I've done that! Though, I'm just not a fan of SLA right now. The cleanup and mess and such isn't for me in the space I am. If I can move into a proper studio or lab environment, I may get back into it.
Great tip about using Slic3r PE to just print the top portion to glue on. As far as usable dice tower, I have to say that this is the best one I've found yet (but am always eager to try other): www.thingiverse.com/thing:1271858 And don't forget the extra section with the randomizer in it from here: www.thingiverse.com/thing:2953592 And the barrier gate to catch the dice if you don't print the actual base plate: www.thingiverse.com/thing:2246404
omg You should know this buy now i know you do.. Wham bam build plates is the answer your looking for. Quit fighting the part to come off the build plate and risking damage to your bed or your part. i put wham bam build plates on all 4 of my printers. my 5th is a prusa it came with its own version of wham bam
White Glacier and Blue Water, but,... a bright Red Ship? .... I'd have never picked Red to print a water going vehicle with,... Brown or wood effect would have been a more suitable choice. All the same though, nice print, Joel.
I use cyanoacrylates (super glues) from the hobby store. They come in water thin, medium and honey thick. Use accelerator to instantly cure the glue on contact. Don't use the small 'superglues' from hardware store. You want the 'good stuff' from hobby stores, especially the ones that sell remote control airplanes. I used medium CA to glue my PLA remote control airplane together and the bond is as strong as the bond between layers in the 3D print.
The mk3 was busy printing the boat! Also, it had the GeckoTek build surface and the PETG already loaded. Might have been a little laziness that helped me pick the machines as well :)
Hey Joel I have seen that 3DPN thing on the top of left shelf next to the lion in a couple of videos and i have wondered how you did that? To me it seems like a print without the top and bottom but maybe you did it differently. I really want to know how to do it it looks so cool.
I have a friend that loves ships. His birthday is coming up. How would I print this on the Sain Smart Ender 3? what would be the best size to do it and is there any settings I should use? I use Cura to slice and right now I have a random off the shelf filament. I think it would be a good Idea for me to get white or some kind of similar filament so i can paint it.
What it the space on the inside? would it be possible for you to measure it I I would assume that space inside the ship only needs to be about twice the size of the dice. that way it has room to roll around as well as bounce free. Thanks for replying Jole
this would be neat if you met up with adam savage to paint it... it looks nice, but... actually, I think that's the problem, it looks too nice... needs some weathering... =p One day build! =D
I love to play D and D with my frindes in fact my channel name Tuffy brick is my D and D role play name and as soon as I first played I got my printer an wanted to print a dice tower and I am thinking of designing one that goes through a dragon's mouth and out through a castle gate.
Ummmmmmm. Wow. That's my design, from my Thingiverse page. Wow. WOW. Thanks for showcasing it!!!
Ben Raisher TFS has also been using it for a while in their D&D videos.
Yesss I heard!! Hah I tried to contact them about it, but never heard back...
how about you make a spaceship wreck dice tower?
@@Jaoheah Oh damn, that's actually a really good idea...
You should totally make a spaceship wreck Dice Tower. And maybe record yourself building it and post it on RUclips I'll follow you
Joe, i'm disapointed on your lack of D20s, what are you teaching those kids....
Seriously! A channel with "nerd" in the title throwing dice and not a single polyhedral. Gary Gygax must be spinning in his grave.
D100s exist for a reason my guy
The question is: what number does Gary Gygax end up showing when he's done spinning?
Idk how many sides does he have?
Joel

Most entertaining 3D printing channel !
I so need to print one of these for my pirate campaigns! My players would love it
I'm liking because of the time you put into all of this

High five to Shawn... Sean? Props to the behind the scenes talent.... Good job to Joel too of course.
Joel THANK YOU for this! I'm tailoring my printing services to TTRPG-related prints. Can't wait to share my results with you!
I have found that using dental floss like a garrotte or wire saw to get stubborn prints off of the build plate has worked well. I’m wondering if you have tried it, Joel.
Great video. Thank you for what you do.
Oh, that's a neat idea.
Man I like your energy. I don't really care for 3D-printers but you are entertaining!
"It's all messy!"
Ahh, recovering a failed print. You're glad you aren't wasting plastic, but at the same time if you're anything like me you wonder 'how much better would this be if it hadn't failed here'.

Great looking prints Joel! Featured this video on my nightly show Today in 3D
that is definitely a conversation starter !
A Futurama Sapeceshipwreck dice tower would be awesome!
It's always nice to remember to have fun 😋
Actually it’s a time lapse, not a montage, but I am still very impressed with this print.
I feel like you'd be an awesome D&D campaign partner!
this goes like... thiiiiisss. and that goes liiiiiiiiiiiike thisss.
you are really fan of big, no, giant prints!))
*yells* "It's all messy!!" Made my day xD
Cool build. Wish I was still gaming. A hand full of 4-siders going through that would sound awesome. 😀
You literally asked ur son to answer the math question and not doing it yourself lol dad of the year!!!btw awesome video !!!!
that's a beautiful print
That would be perfect for our party: Our DM adores destroying our ships. One time it was a giant crab/cthulhu thing, the next was a giant sea turtle.
High five Joel 🖐. Great video 👍
I visually most like the four walls (triangle with four walls) I find it best to withstand the power in all directions
You know what is a good idea try making The Iron Giant but like a huge scale with maybe Motors and a sound box and some servos but that's all up to you if you want to take that on or you could just make them simple jointed but that's not the point I would just really like if you made The Iron Giant
I need dis. I'm planning a campaign based around a huge hunt for the treasure of Flamebeard the Half-dragon Pirate. It would be PERFECT. :D
Joel,
Props to you guys for the color grading on this one. Video looks great and this is good fun content, too!
-Anthony
Anthony Tackett thanks for the color compliment!
Dude absolutely. You've got the magic hands this week!
Eyes? Hands? Computer?
Anthony Tackett we’ll go with... all of the above!
yeah its always funny having some dices to roll😂
No project is complete until the blood sacrifice has been made to the maker gods.
I like the video Joel the idea should go well with classic D&D
That was awesome Hi five man
Return five!
his "yoink"s are really cute. They remind me of Marceline from Adventure Time..
A montage from Sean should be called a "Seantage".
I'd personally like to see a Benchy version of this model!
Can we please have someone design a spaceship wreck?
Space shipwreck? Spaceshipwreck?
What space-ship do you want?
Maybe the RMS Titanic from the "Voyage of the Damned" episode of Dr Who? tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Titanic_(spaceship)
The rectangular shape of a battlestar like Galactica would lend itself to the design or you could do a Death Star with a spiral channel inside to drop the dice out the bottom.
Death star is a boring shape to design, Galactica could be nice, or maybe the millenium falcom? I will try to design something tonight/tomorrow ^^
Benchy ship wreck would be cool
I think replacing the water with a blue resin would be cool as well
U can use dissolving fillament for ur support. 😇
Great video as always, but every time I get a notification of a new 3DPN vid I keep hoping it will be the kodama - furlingtech video. We backers are still in the dark.

Joel ,you always print large stuff on FDM printers , how bout printing super tiny things on SLA printers !?
I've done that! Though, I'm just not a fan of SLA right now. The cleanup and mess and such isn't for me in the space I am. If I can move into a proper studio or lab environment, I may get back into it.
thx for replying
This is perfect YTP material because it has lots of repeating phrases.
Team four star at the table the natural Oneders!
(It’s done purposefully)
Joel you should print the ship in timberfill!!
Great tip about using Slic3r PE to just print the top portion to glue on.
As far as usable dice tower, I have to say that this is the best one I've found yet (but am always eager to try other):

All the same though, nice print, Joel.
The Markiplier of 3D printing.
Does it need supports in chamber? Or would specific Support blockers help with this?
Ive always found that printing dice towers has always been a roll of the dice in the end
someone needs to print this and send it to Travis
*Asks for montage. Gets a timelapse*
Sean gets lashings.
Ugh. Again? I’ve barely recovered from the last time. 😩
3D printed stocks?
What sort of glue do you recommend for PLA?
I use cyanoacrylates (super glues) from the hobby store. They come in water thin, medium and honey thick. Use accelerator to instantly cure the glue on contact. Don't use the small 'superglues' from hardware store. You want the 'good stuff' from hobby stores, especially the ones that sell remote control airplanes. I used medium CA to glue my PLA remote control airplane together and the bond is as strong as the bond between layers in the 3D print.
Nice. I recognize the shipwreck dice tower from TFS At The Table. I think the designer sent it to them.
Naw it was sent by an intermediate... but yes, same tower!
Always interesting. I always love your videos Joel. :)
Next vid, printing “character builder dice” aka weighted dice
I love the montage! =D
At least we 3d mortals are not the only ones who have trouble getting models off the beds. Lol...
I'm always trying to get models into bed.
I knew that was coming!! LOL!!!
We need one that is the monopoly man that has a hole in his hat and the dice come out of his hand in toss position into a pool of "money"
yoink. 3D print an articulated slug with edible filament and eat it. Or use your magic candy factory printer.
I wish he got to keep a candy printer, but they didnt.
Oh, but do you know how much they cost?
I had the same issues with the candy apple red... prints fine for a bit, then jam....
Am I the only one that wants to send him a proper dice set? :P
Try soldering parts together with a 3D pen.
awesome video :) i was wondering when the next parts for the OpenRC F1 car will be released? or is it a secret? :L
How do you decide what printer to use? When you want to go big, it's obvious, but why print the first tower on the MK2 and not the MK3?
The mk3 was busy printing the boat! Also, it had the GeckoTek build surface and the PETG already loaded. Might have been a little laziness that helped me pick the machines as well :)
Need to make a dice tower in the shape of a wizard tower for DnD
Where did you get your workbench? I love it!
My dad made it for me as a Christmas gift!
Can I borrow your dad? :)
When I type in "3d print" on the RUclips search bar you are the first thing that pops up
HOT DANG that's awesome!
Hey Joel I have seen that 3DPN thing on the top of left shelf next to the lion in a couple of videos and i have wondered how you did that? To me it seems like a print without the top and bottom but maybe you did it differently. I really want to know how to do it it looks so cool.
Tibo Huyers Looks like a cool scad project.
i kindof have an idea of how i would achieve the same result but i would like to hear how joel did it
I think that's exactly what he did
But how do you do that in the slicer? Simplify 3D probably has that but i use repetier with cura and i dont think i have that
Have you tried dissolvable support material?
You should have more subscribers
I do not disagree with you!
That is the dice tower is on the team for stars DnD game
Dip the clue nozzle in acetone it unbonds the glue in it
I’m gonna try to remix it in 40K terrain style.
If you could please because I love him from my childhood and I think it'd be a nice prop to have
I have a friend that loves ships.
It's pretty big, for the Ender 3 you would have to scale it down to 50% size or more. I'm not sure if dice would fit through it then.
What it the space on the inside? would it be possible for you to measure it I I would assume that space inside the ship only needs to be about twice the size of the dice. that way it has room to roll around as well as bounce free.
Thanks for replying Jole
Normal people just start talking to initiate a conversation.
What is the infill pattern on the ship called and is it available in slic3r?
@joeltelling What glue did you use? I've been using epoxy or crazy glue.
Faiq Hussain It looks like cyanoacrylate given the use of accelerant.
Try throwing that build plate in the freezer for 20 minutes
For those of you who didnt want to do the math along with the test, the answer was 12. 1+5+4+2=12
Hey Joe have you ever used a da Vinci minimaker i
this would be neat if you met up with adam savage to paint it... it looks nice, but... actually, I think that's the problem, it looks too nice... needs some weathering... =p
One day build! =D
You you need to get a shirt on amazon that says check out my abs and has rolls of abs on it
Is it bad that my 3d printer I just got is catching on fire or is that normal???
I love to play D and D with my frindes in fact my channel name Tuffy brick is my D and D role play name and as soon as I first played I got my printer an wanted to print a dice tower and I am thinking of designing one that goes through a dragon's mouth and out through a castle gate.
geckotek geckotek gekoteck it's everywhere
What was the spray that you were using while sticking the parts with glue? What is its purpose?
Taking a wild guess I would say an activator to set the glue quicker and will also set without contact/pressure
