My uncles wife , her dad ran this place for years my grandparents are buried here as well
The further back you go there are more crypts that are over grown
Also in the mausoleum
There is a spot covered by an iron plack
If you unscrew the corners
It opens up to a room with small niches that have people’s ashes in them
Only identified by numbers
Kind of a poor man’s back door into the cemetery itself
My dad showed me that part uncles father in law showed him it
Henry Kaiser
Mac Dre
Black dahlia
Al Davis are also buried here
He said there were more Crypts that were overgrown? Behind the hillside ones I featured in that video?
The first crypt is better built than most homes.
Have you seen the cartel crypts in Mexico? Those things ARE houses
At-- 9:27 -- To the right of the picture is what they had us salute when we lost a soldier. The empty combate boots, weapon, the soldier's dog tags, and helmit. 💖
I'm a Combat Army Vet.
Subscribed, I am from "Faces of the Forgotten" gang!!! 👍🏻
Thank you and welcome to my channel
@ Nancy Volke me too.
Me too!
Thank you!
So am I!
Awesome video! Got this page recommended by Ron from Faces of the Forgotten, who also does great cemetery tours!
Thank you and welcome to my channel! 👍
Same ere.
One of ur best! Came upon this tonight and am so impressed with your work. I have watch this at least 5 times over yrs.
My new hobby! And thanks for turning me on to the beautiful structures. Never realized the art in death. In the one grave there was a closed small bottle up in one of the openings at 17:58.
New Subscriber. From Faces of the Forgotten. Your Channel was recommended. Enjoyed your video.
Thank You! And welcome to my channel!
I used to hang out and take photos in this cemetery all of the time. I think it is one of the most beautiful cemeteries in the US. An American version of London's Highgate Cemetery.
What is the name of the cemetery? And what city? Thanks
@@nickk7425 Mountain View Cemetery in the Oakland hills.
Loved the tour, nothing like a stroll in the cemetery. LOL Stories are always welcome, it's nice when you can, helps to learn about the people buried there, and gives a little history as well. Thanks Tony
By far my favorite cemetery. It has some awesome background. All the way to the designer. My good friend Todd Crew is buried there. When I go visit his memorial. I tend to spend the whole day there.
It’s my favorite as well. There’s so much to see
I love that cemetery. Thank you for showing more of it each time we watch!
Love this man's complete passion on how he explores$$
Awesome explore & great candid peak photos into the hillside Mausoleum 👍🧐
Thank you, like I said it was a bonus I didn’t realize I got that until I got home and really looked at it. I wish I could’ve captured it for longer but I didn’t really know what I was filming in there I was just panning around at the time. Maybe next time I can get a better look now I have an idea of where it’s located inside
Thank you for crypt and cemetery walking around ❤.
Thanks for taking us along with you. Very interesting.
Thank you for watching ! 👍. It’s my pleasure to bring you guys this
Hello Cryt Door love these Episodes ❤️ Catching up On Them Thanks for all the good Videos
You need to purchase a snake camera used to inspect pipes, sewer. Bendable extension with camera and light! Go back in that crypt. I bet it’s incredible. Good stuff!
I think that mausoleum for MAIN was incredible. My favorite.
That was pretty cool I know I’ve been getting roasted off and on about messing up his dates had a reading glasses mishap. I didn’t wear them that day lol
I like stories. Nice kept cemetery. Nice 👍 video friend.
My absolute favorite cemetery!!
Very nice cemetery walk. Very interesting.
9:14 easy company God speed rest easy my brothers
Imagine going through your grandmother's things after she passed and finding the keys for one of those 200 yr old family mausoleums, would you go and enter?
If I had a key and it were family? Yes
Yes indeed I would!
I have keys to the family vault in the UK. Three hundred plus years of family. Last entombment was my Dad. Eventually my wife and I will take up residence within, and I'll leave the key with my son.
Wow, i líve in Rochester NH
Wonderful video. Love the history you give on some of the Graves.
Thank You! Glad you enjoyed it
Immediately subscribed, outstanding channel. Love history, especially local history and amazing how it ties into what we do everyday in these small towns some of us grew up in during the 70s. Thank you Sir , please keep'em coming
Hooker memorial? We’ll all I gotta say is... about time 😂😂😂👍
Most of these crypts are beautifully designed for that time period but I'm not sure if I'd like to be laying above ground. It may be deemed as not safe & being under more so. However, this is an incredible historic cemetery & thanks for sharing your experience, it was very interesting.
What do you mean by not safe? When you are dead, how isn't something safe?
@@susanwaltman2607 Your tomb can be desecrated & it would be disrespectful. This is my opinion. Cheers
Funeral must of been cheap back in the day. Really nice headstones, large mausoleums. Today a family would need a min of 20k to burry a love one with a small headstone.
I’m sure you’ve seen inside Mausoleums where there’s a little corner areas dedicated to one whole family and there’s about five or six trips going up to the ceiling? One time I was told by somebody who works at a local cemetery that those back in the early 1900s were about 20 K to 30 K. Now they’re over $100,000
@@CryptDoor wow! I got into the wrong business.
I often wonder when driving through our local cemetery how much some of the statues and large headstones must have cost back in the late 1800’s and early1900’s I helped my son pick out a headstone for his wife’s grave and was shocked at how expensive they are now.
It was never cheep. But some families had more money. Also tumb stones were made and shaped nice back then. Those who made the were realy good artists
That is my very fav crypt to. I so wish you could get the name..I could do some research. Great walk today...loved it all .great peek inside the crypt
You need a scope camera. They are cheap. Looks like a family open vault. Put members on shelves. Probably lead lines. Names would be on coffin plats.
Yes that’s probably gonna be my next plan of attack that footage on this video was on my iPhone 12 because It had a light on it so I can really see in there
I have tried to film through that hole in the door before and got nothing so to that day I tried again not thinking I was going to get anything again.
Love your history descriptions!
Go back with a bright flashlight and your scope camera you used a few months ago.
I’m going to try when I do go back but I’m thinking the cell phone light was way more bright
People used to put pennies on the eyelids of the dead to weight them shut. Now they insert a kind of ridged contact lens to do the job.
Quite a modern cemetery.
Now I'm really curious about what is in that mausoleum at the end.
Great tour. One fella got a plumbers camera with a light on it, to look inside crypts. You might try that. I appreciate your respect of these who’ve gone before!!
I often wonder who has the job of cleaning inside of the crypts? Family members? Grounds keepers?
And thank you for mentioning our veterans this wouldn't be possible if it wasn't for them.
That would be up to family, because when I have seen people inside, any kind of private mausoleum cleaning up, it’s always family.
The Main crypt building style is called Gothic
Love your videos! Very interesting!
That mausoleum is almost identical to Adelicia Acklen's mausoleum in Nashville, TN. Adeliciawas on the of the richest women in Th U.S. during the Civil War.
The Johnson mausoleum houses the remains of Katherine Johnson who was the mother of my friend, Peter Johnson Musto (the godfather of my oldest son). Peter and I visited the mausoleum before his death in 2020. The cremated remains of his close friend, Lawrence Stoven III (“Binky”) were interred just outside and to the right of the mausoleum. Peter often mentioned plans for his own interment here but his cremated remains were instead placed in the garden columbarium at his parish church of St. Mary the Virgin in San Francisco.
Faces of the forgotten for me too….also subscribed
Thank You, And welcome to the channel
@16:38 You should spend the night in there. Do an all night, candlelight livestream; break out your ghost box!
I love it when we get some kind of history and story on your explores 👍😎🌹
The 1906 death dates might reflect the terrible earthquake of that year. I married a man much older than me and his mother was in San Francisco during that earthquake. She described a number of things such as the streets splitting apart. She said the earthquake did a lot of damage but the ensuing fire did more. In order to stop the fire, blocks of the city were dynamited and that caused even more damage.
Wow. Thank you for sharing
@@CryptDoor Thank you. I watched the whole video wondering if family names would come up. The family ended up in southern California via a marriage to one of the big land grant families. Up north, Benecia and Vallejo are named for members of the Spanish family. Also Bakersfield through Arcadia Bandini de Sterns de Baker.
The big crypts you featured would contain people that my husband's grandfather would have known as he had a seat on the stock exchange in San Francisco. They also knew and travelled with Jack London.
Just came across the channel Subbed. Regards from England.
Thank you! for subbing!
That last one looks evil.
6:29 John Charles Adams Jr. most likely suffered a severe head injury causing what we call "Raccoon Eyes", or the medical term is "Periorbital Ecchymosis". Such a tragic death at a very young age. The mausoleums that you visited are unbelievable! I really enjoyed this walk. Thank you.
Am SO SORRY TO hear about your dad..May he REST IN PEACE
You want a crypt come to Bram Stoker's Dublin Here in Ireland, or even better the Victorian Higate cemeteries in London UK.
@13:45 The weathering and fungus growing on this statue is fantastic.
What mite be more interesting is making tours of one of the many abandoned grave yards, there is stores there, some of those stores need to be told.
I didn't know there were mites or stores in cemeteries. They MIGHT have STORIES to tell, though. Incidentally, a GRAVEYARD is placed next to a church. A CEMETERY can be anywhere.
@@TubeRadiosRule I did not know that. I'm a heavy truck driver in the US, lots and lots of abandoned cemeteries littered all over the country. Spent a few years in the UK, litterly stumbled across what I thought was an abandoned cemetery "one dark and stormy night" short story, I was in the Air Force, car died had to thumb my way to the base, was walking across what I thought was an empty field, no buildings or sighs that could be seen, stumbled, fell on my "Pride" grabbed my flash light, I fell over a laying on its back grave marker from the early 18th century, at least that's what was written on it. I was not exactly thrilled about things, needless to say, I got real motivated to leave, looked at the grave marker, apologized, that's when it got very strange, after the apology, I swear I heard the most beautiful version of "Amazing Grace" being played, felt a calm understanding warm almost loving presence, picked myself up, made it to the highway, caught a ride. This story is over 40 years ago, I remember it as if it was yesterday.
Great shot of the coffin inside! Awesome video‼️
Beautiful cemetery. Do you notice the similarities between the Main crypt in this video and the Delger crypt in the Millionaires' Row pt2 video?
That is a beautiful crypt, with the Gothic openings. I wonder who is buried there, a Victorian aristocrat? When was the last time it was opened or the last time any descendants visited? Very and truly fascinating.
I just found out about an interesting story linked to the family in there thanks to a viewer of mine so I’ll tell that story soon
@@CryptDoor Ooh, you've gained a follower, can't wait for the story! :)
"The Black Dahlia" is buried there!
Didn't you put it together? Right after the statue for Kittie, you looked at the memorial for a family of three. Look at the daughter's name and dates, then look at the initials on Kittie's statue. Same little girl. Great video!
The statue looks like it’s trying to get a mobile phone (cell) signal
New subscriber here, great video! Thanks
Thank you and welcome to my channel!
@@CryptDoor Thanks! I am looking forward to binging on your past videos too get caught up!
Brooklyn has a cemetery that reminds me of High Gate as well. I love a big ole gothic cemetery.
I enjoy these cemetery videos and follow some other channels. Good job explaining things and editing👍
Followed from TikTok 😜🇦🇺
Hello new friend here watching from Philippines 🇵🇭
First of your videos that I’ve seen. Always had a fascination with cemeteries and historical places. I’m from near Savannah Georgia and we have some magnificent cemeteries around here. Great commentary and thanks for the cool video….
Thank You! 👍
@@CryptDoor absolutely sir!
Great tour, thank you Tony.
17:45 - you need one of those cameras on a cable
Toujours un véritable moment de détente🍀🎬Beau Travail🔬💪Alex France🙏🌌
The unnamed crypt was likely used for cold storage of the dead during winter months. The coffin there was empty, as it should have been.
Receiving vault type thing? Probably could have been
But on the step in front of it there was the last name of Mason
The ground doesn't freeze in Oakland California. The last time it snowed a measurable amount was 1976. So cemetery burial can occur year round.
@@CryptDoor our receiving vault at Bonaventure in Savannah is the Gaston vault. Mr Gaston died out of state and the cemetery there housed his body until family could bring him home. He built his mausoleum large enough to be used for the same purpose here in Savannah. It was originally located at Laurel Grove and later moved to Bonaventure.
@@uptoolate2793 in more favorable climates these vaults are used for people who die away from home and are held for family.
For those who say ghosts are not real. This voice is so clear that anyone would hear it.
16:40 "This is bad..."
You need a boroscope camera to peek into the cracks
who has the keys to these locks? the family or cemetery or both?
Both in most cases… but in older ones like that. I hear keys maybe lost over time.. that’s coming from somebody I know that works for a cemetery
Great video Tony! Me and my daughter have done a few cemetery videos on our other channel. I didn't realize you had this channel was subscribed to your other one back in the lyftmydoordasinguber days
Yes I remember you how are you?
@@CryptDoor doing good trying to stay cool in this Texas heat. My gopro overheated on my last two outings at an abandoned drive in and an old cemetery. Have you had that problem with your gopro this summer?
Yes go pros are notorious for heating up and shutting down
Thank you. I enjoyed allot of the graves and story
Thank you, this was one of my favorites to make.
That was awesome. Thank you
Main street was named after Chs Main...
If I had such a modest Mausoleum, I would have a carriage house and servants quarters! (JOKE!!)
I would love to see inside that Mausoleum! I can only dream as to what such an interior would look like!
If you had a snake camera, you might have been able to look through the keyhole as the cylinder looked to be missing!
I plan on taking the drain cam out of retirement.
@@CryptDoor Cool! Use a small bag to carry such tools, and keep something to eat in there, as when you are asked what the bag is for, you can truthfully say "LUNCH!"!!
Wow that's creepy open coffin😶
Awesome look around. New friend here from Australia
Welcome to the family! 😁👍
It always saddens me when our dead have better accommodation than our living homeless
Beautiful cemetery
It sure is
I wonder if the Hooker family is the family that started the Hooker furniture company? Yes I think that’s a casket sitting on the floor.
2:28 when he died in 1906 aged 88, he was born in 1818.So,he can`t be born in 1873
1817. Not sure where I saw the other date. then again I didn’t have my reading glasses on that day
I was wondering about this too. Was going to ask, but saw you already did. Good catch.
@@CryptDoor i know that problem pretty well,without my reading glasses i'm screwed..lol
That looked like a large cent! You should have check it! I would.
That coin? I didn’t want to disturb anything
@@CryptDoor if he woke up you would both be rich.
Yes, it looked like a Large Cent. I would have tried to see the date, and put it right back.
Wonder what it cost to build these crypts.
I had a friend tell me that something similar to that back in the early 1900s would be about 20K. Now i’m sure it’s hundreds of thousands maybe more
Mr. Main was born in 1817
Wow! Yes, I think it was a ⚰
I had no idea that's how these were built.
That mausoleum for Charles Main is beautiful!
Imagine how much those things cost to build!
I wish you had one of those cameras that's on a tube! Good video!
You do a nice job on your videos 🤗🤗.
Thank you! 🤗
Is this in New Hampshire? I am from New Hampshire, and live now in San Francisco, but hope to return home to New Hampshire, before my time is up!
This is in Oakland California
@@CryptDoor Wow I am like 10 minutes away... :) I wonder if you can walk a dog there...
@@NextWorldVR It’s Mountain View cemetery located on Piedmont Avenue. They have certain days a week that you can visit for recreational use. I do believe it’s Wednesday Saturday. And the rest of the days of the week are for families only. There still being strict due to the pandemic
Awesome video. May I ask what camera you use?
Mostly a go pro hero 7, Go pro Max Or my I phone 12
I love stories
Coins are left to say I visited or I knew this person most often at veterans grave sites
Was it a coffin ⚰️ or casket? I was told there's a difference
Looks like a coffin to me
Cofin is shapet like that little symbol you put in coment. Casket is diferent
Coffin has 6 sides casket has 4
Guessing it might be in the Gothic style or Second Empire which was a style of Philadelphia architecture popular in mid 1800's.
Very interesting stuff
Glad you enjoyed it
My dear friend Todd Crew is buried near the front.
Did you see the "Hat Man" shadow figure immediately to the left of the coffin?
Kittie = Catherine. It even had her initials under the angel/statue.
