- Montparnasse Cemetery (French: Cimetière du Montparnasse) is a cemetery in the Montparnasse quarter of Paris, in the city's 14th arrondissement. The cemetery is roughly 47 acres and is the second largest cemetery in Paris.The cemetery has over 35,000 graves and approximately a thousand people are buried here each year.

Elaborate beyond words. Some of them actually seemed secure and impenetrable. After watching the videos in Irish cemeteries, I feel even worse for those ancient gravesites where people have looted and desecrated the final resting place of many. When I was much younger, I went and visited a friend in the hospital. I decided to walk through the cemetery on the way home. Unbeknownst, there was a man following me. You get that feeling, and I turned around to reassure myself that I was scaring myself, but I was wrong. The guy started chasing me, fully exposed, and I ran. I hopped the fence and ran up the street a bit. I was mad, and I cried most of the way home. I was blessed that day, and I know it!
Holy Sh1t, now that was awful for you, yes my gut just felt like he was up to no good, eventually after seeing him several times turning up I found grave Visitations and stayed with him, we saw him no more

Geeezzz, I just can't get over the beauty of these Paris cemeteries. I owe you Sue; I will never get to see these in my lifetime. They are ancient, historical, colorful, with such an array of different residents. I don't like the thought of people following or watching you however. Cemeteries are wonderful sources of history and architecture but I am sometimes aghast at the thought of what many of these memorials must have cost. Imagine how much good this could have done for those still living. But agreed that then we’d be deprived of some very interesting sights and facts. It’s really interesting what different ways each nation has in terms of cemeteries and memorials and they seem to all have a national ‘character’. No matter what the intention of your ‘peeper’ was, it’s always vital to trust your gut feeling and get to a safer space as soon as possible.

Thank you so much Sandy, it was drilled into us to be very careful in Paris, plenty of dangerous people on the metro too, this guy just seemed to be everywhere I was, so I rang GV, after that we didn't see him anymore thank God
7:15 26:30 29:05 Each mausoleum or grave is a family property or a lifetime concession. Unfortunately, after several generations, it is very common for there to be no one left to maintain them. The responsibility for the maintenance usually falls on the families. However, when there are no descendants or family members left to do so, they can deteriorate or decay. I am wondering if the cemetery authority will undertake restoration efforts, especially for these historically significant old tombs or old graves as part of heritage preservation initiatives.

Great video Sue! One has to wonder , with the graves being so very close, is how would they get to open a grave to inter a relative. They surely couldn.t get big machinery in.

That was as scary as some of our other scares! Please be careful. Sue, please could I ask about the song at the start of your videos by Jory Nash? I searched high and low. I believe it comes from an album called "The thin man", but I could not find it on RUclips or Apple Music. Is it only on CD? This particular song touches me so much and I would dearly love to hear it. My husband is a folk signger, songwriter and musician and plays the Uilleann bagpipes (the Irish pipes) and he had not heard of him. I told him I learnt Jory comes from Canada. I am from America. I'm a dual citizen who moved from California to the UK 14 years ago. I love your channel and have just subscribed! Thanks for any info and I shall keep following. Oh! I even downloaded the apps you were using on your phone on that one video where you caught the fairy and ghost! I was big time into the graveyards in California and have loads of photos and stories. Hello Sue. So glad both you and Grave Visitaton doing separate vdeos of these Paris cemeteries. I'm astounded how crowded these places are. No,real separations but where memorials take up practially all the space. Astonishing.I know about 10 years ago I was in a group to,Germany and I went off by myself to several cemeteries. Saw several where at the rear where coffins staircases going down steps led to places where one could see deceased Gemans. I was afraid though to go down many of them.

@@SerenitySueGraveyards please be careful. I do know another channel I had watch and he had gone in the winter time there. There were homeless and drug addicts that would go into the little house like grave sites. Some had old blankets in them, some had needles, but I will say again it was winter time when the person walking the cemetery was there.
@Cheetoluv I've been to cemeteries here that drug addicts and homeless use, they didn't creep me out like this fella, he watched me from afar and seemed to be every where I went, he was there while I set my phone and gimble up too, being in a different country where its told all the time to be wary of people puts you on edge even more so
An amazing place thank you the Watiz black marble is beautiful always wonder where in these narrow tombs where the body’s lay but you answered that agree a lot of your content the graves are so close together

At the time of his death he was living in the community of La Teste-de-Buch, Gironde, Aquitaine. It's on the coast with the forrest/swamp behind. The death dates are very odd, 11/10/2002 and 10/11/2002. Did he go missing in October and was found in Nov, or, did he die in Oct and was buried in Nov? I don't know! Hoping another viewer might find something in a French paper or similar. XXX

I had a back pack and they warn you to be careful but I was worried about my phone, he watched me at the start setting up, walked by me, back tracked and that's when I caught him at the mausoleum. I saw him later then going around a corner, so I rang GV..I get distracted and thats probably dangerous

This was Paris, this man was at the gate watching me, followed behind me, disappeared then walked back up to me watching, he gave me the creeps, saw him later on too, so I finished up
Maybe he was security in plain clothes? Remember they didn’t like video.
@Sandra-dm8rd all security were really nice here and they were chatting to us at the gate, this fella kept appearing in different sections

Please all who read this, do NOT go to any cemetery alone. Here in the US at our genealogy meetings, we have all been told to go in Twos or more for safety reasons. Many have been killed there.
It may seem harmless cause its daylight and your just in an area of dead people. Its the living we have to be afraid of, many sick people walking around just looking to hurt others, so please, safety before anything else, take a friend with you and make sure you have a cell phone . Take Pepper spray wear it around your wrist !

I agree unfortunately life is like this now and nest to be suspicious of everyone, I don't think this guy was going to hurt me but a easy steal for him, my phone is connected by a magnet onto a gimbal so easy grab for him. Even the police stopped me on the street and told me to put my phone away as it will be stolen
Fascinating places but I won't even go to my dad's grave alone. He is buried right at the back of an old cemetery in Manchester and I never go visit alone. Recently been a number of attacks there, so I always go in a car with my cousin or a friend. It's sad when you can't walk in a forest, wood or cemetery without some creep turning up
I know and it's only getting worse, I won't even let my children across the road to the playground on their own. No way, it's too dangerous

He was strange, he had watched me at the start, setting my camera up, I walked off to find somewhere to start, then he walked by, watching. Started the video and he was back again. Didn't see him for awhile but when I saw him again I found GV just didn't feel comfortable

@@SerenitySueGraveyards I didn't think so, that's just wrong, but to not even allow a pepper spray for self protection is insane. One good squirt of capsaicin will make the biggest thug rethink a few life choices, like RIGHT NOW! It's use is not taken lightly, unjustified use leads to serious charges in court and could lead to lawsuits in civil court as well.

Yes, of all the graveyards in Paris we went to, this one made me feel unsafe
There is a ballerina by the name of Giuseppina Bozzacchi (23 November 1853 - 23 November 1870) buried on this cementery, she was Swanhilde in Léo Delibes' ballet Coppélia 1870, died very young, sad story, would love to see a picture of her grave.
There were two separate sections to this cemetery which I covered amongst most of the cemeteries in Paris, unfortunately I probably won't be back there again. I travelled from Irelan to covered as much as I could. Did you try Find a grave they might have a photo

Where I live in wales idiots have been stealing dogs off women who are walking with their dogs alone so I carry a open pot of pepper in my pocket and if they come near me they are having it there is no way on this earth are they getting my dog she is precious.
