Funny story: when I was younger I thought that Optimus just took Sentinel Prime’s shield for himself. I had a weird way of thinking then.

I have 2 things to say about Optimus’s weapons.
1. Maybe he got the mini pistol shotgun and arm dagger from upgrades from quintessa to help Prime reclaim the staff
2. Maybe Optimus gave the shield a few minor upgrades to have flame designs to tell others “This belongs to me.”
Third theory: maybe he upgraded the shield to hold his gun again and that’s why we never see it again and that’s why the shield has flame designs.
i think the shield was silver and when optimus transform during the scene it make aquaired new paint and i don't think he would transform his riffle into the shield because the proper gun is larger than the shield maybe the shield had that canon function and also that mini hand blaster and combat knife were upgrapes for him along with his hole body being fixed and repainted and he get talisman logo on his sword
Fun Fact: the person who played Joshua (Stanley Tucci) in AOE also plays Merlin in TLK.

It feels pretty obvious that the shield became a part of him and his truck form but it's good to see a proper breakdown of that. I'm really loving this channel, you got me back in to Transformers

What if prime turned his gun into a shield? And that is why the shield has a gun function? And maybe he kept his original gun thing by making the mini shotgun? And the dagger came with him upgrading his arms?
Exactly what I was thinking!
Actually, Optimus only had one energon sword in Age of extinction. He never gets the one he flung into Grindor back.
After that fight he replaces it with the more traditional looking axe we see in Dark of the moon which he loses after Sentinel disarms him.
That’s why we never see him use the energon swords again, because the last one he had was destroyed in the fight with Galvatron.
Yeah. Kinda pracrical for a resistance leader among a barely-surviving species.

@@justinlorica69420 or he got the shield at the same time when he pulled out the knights sword or maby his gun WAS transformed into the shield to go along with his title as a knight of cybertron and earth or to go along with his new upgrades featuring his Knightley arms thrusters on his legs and the blade dagger inside of his new forearms and that would also explain why the the sword of judgment also matches his color scheme and the fact it looked like he new exactly where the sword was at as if it was calling him towards it as if he was a knight all along but just didn't know it yet how else would his arms upgrade to allow him to free it and grimlocks mace is a part of him that can't be stripped its what allows him to transform into a dinobot i belive but thats my thoughts coming from a diehard transformers and Optimus Prime fan
It's possible the shield just had a gun function on it the whole time.
If you look closely the shield opens up so I think his gun combined with his shield witch is where the shield gets it's detail

Strange weird theory:
Prime had a shield from the armory on DOTM, but lets place an excuse to the lockdown thing by saying that the shield was later on used to cover the damage galvatron may have caused optimus so he could survive lockdown spaceship, this makes a lot of sense, since prime was very damaged when we see the rescue and also prime was almost obliterated by galvatron, so theres why he may have used up the shield of DOTM, but later on, once prime is totally healed up and there was no need for the shield to cover inexistent wounds, it would help to “upgrade” the shield into the flame version, making it more resistant and restoring it after a lot of time geting rusty.
(Btw optimus on knight form seems less resistant compared to the original trilogy prime form, i think the knight form upgrades damage and resistance in exchange for a ton of the regenaration prime once had, and maybe thats why he may had to use the shield to cover the wounds while he was regenarating.)

i honestly think what happened is that in the same room with his sword, off camera before freeing the dinobots his shield was there, and when he equiped it to his arm the shield reconfigured like his arms did, seeing how a shield comes into the armour category like his new arm guards but this is just me you could also say that his gun became part of the shield as it has a blaster built in

This is a good theory! The only thing I think is different is that instead when optimus transformed his arms to get the sword of judgement, he gots his shield, and when he gets the mini dagger and shotgun that was quintessa upgrading him like she upgraded megatron with the new body.

I think he kept his shield from DOTM so when he scaned his knight form it looked different.
He took the time to flex his artistic muscles and make a beautifully enflamed weapon with defensive capabilities.

My theory is that his Heavy Assault rifle was transformed into that Shield of his at some point off screen while in the knight ship since it is also capable of shooting projectiles.
