      5 series and a6 look obsolete against s90. the momen you open the front door u fall in love with it everytime. and 5-series gives a same old shit feeling. even revised 3-series F30 they did nothing to the interior. same old sh**t

    FYI ...volvo has never had an ignition switch in the center...until this. Saab always had the ignition in the center. Their seats are not only comfortable, but among the safest ..well designed for impact built with robust materials to stay in place during impact....good review

    • @Motormouth...
      @Motormouth...  8 лет назад +2

      +weirdshibainu no, the XC90 has it too, that is what the reference was about.

      ok...got it....

    • @roadwraith6
      @roadwraith6 8 лет назад +7

      I think the reason why the ignistion switch ended up in the center is because when Saab when bankrupt here in sweden many designer employees ended up joining Volvo design and develop department

    • @robert4you
      @robert4you 8 лет назад +2

      Greetings from another Swede. I agree. Perhaps the ignition switch placed in the center was a "silent" tribute to the old SAAB who is now buried and soon forgotten?

    Oddly enough, the XC60 you mention needing to be updated to become Volvo's best seller and catch up with the crossover craze, along with the XC70, actually are Volvo's best sellers because of the crossover craze, despite neither having had any updates at all since 2007. Both of them have crossover styling that's standard mid-2000s lifted wagon with black plastic cladding, and infotainment systems based around car phones and DVD nav systems. As well as they sell because the crossover craze has lifted all boats despite currently being fairly bad cars at the moment, I can only imagine how much they'll take off into the stratosphere once they're made to be as good as the new S/V/XC90.

    This car has a lot going for it. The front 3/4 may be the best styling in this segment. But the rear 3/4 is absolutely tragic. That C-pillar and the taillights look like something from an 80's Oldmobile.

    Nice review. I'm concerned that Volvo's pricing the S90 and V90 more than the XC90 will hurt S90/V90 sales. The S90, V90, V90 Cross Country, and XC90 seem crowded. I like the variety but it must complicate inventory.

    • @wali363

      it is 40% cheaper than xc90 here in sweden.

      wali363 That makes more sense than the US pricing where the XC90 is cheaper than S90 and V90. At least the S90 and V90 have more standard equipment T6 standard on both but it makes the XC90 feel like a better value.

    They really shouldn't have forgotten to design the back of the car after copying Audi's T shaped lights. I think this is the nicest looking Volvo in recent memory, but with a base price of over 50k, you can get a fully equipped V8 G80 which is better in just about every way and comes with way more features. I like the 3 seater version of this, but I think the car most people will buy won't have much that's as good or better than similarly priced cars. I think this will need a redesign before it looks like a full package.

    • @Speednote10
      @Speednote10 8 лет назад

      What exactly is the 3 seater version of this?
      Also, the G80 is better in every way? Name one. The interior looks 15 years old and exactly what features do you get with the G80 that you don't get with the Volvo?

    • @iSOBigD
      @iSOBigD 8 лет назад

      Speednote10 The S90 has one version which is actually really nice. It gets rid of the front passenger side seat in order to have more storage, reclining seats, etc. The version Without rear seat extras is just about the same as any mid-range luxury car. You can find the same materials and features on cars like the Maxima, which is even cheaper. The G80 has tons of real wood, leather, a great sound system, driver assists, a "finished" look (the back of this car doesn't match anything else), similar room, it's very quiet, it offers better performance for the price, etc. The interior design of the new Volvos is also debatable, I personally think it looks cheap. The smooth matte wood-painted-plastic look with a big gap above it doesn't appeal to me. Is that supposed to be storage space or just a weird design choice? I don't know... Now the G90/Equus, which this comes close to in price, is miles ahead, especially in the back seat department. Again, not comparing them to the 3 seater version which I've never seen in person but it looks interesting. > www.dsf.my/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/volvo-limo2-620x350.jpg I also enjoy their adjustable seats and hope to see that in all cars soon.

    • @Speednote10
      @Speednote10 8 лет назад

      iSOBigD
      Hm, didn't know they made that 3-seater actually.
      Anyway, everything you listed for the G80 can be found in the S90 as well. I would actually say that the S90 is better equipped since it has a ton of safety features that the G80 doesn't have. It's got apple car play and HUD and all that stuff as well. + the top sound system in the Volvo is also one of the absolute best in the business at this price range.
      I don't even think the G80 is faster than the equivalent S90 either btw.
      Your problems with the Volvo all seem to be about the design, which is very personal.

      Speednote10 Yeah the looks are debatable, but keep in mind the G80/Genesis has been around a while and most of the options like HUD, adaptive cruise control/self braking, heated seats/steering wheel, memory seats, mirrors and steering wheel, all auto dimming mirrors, good sound system, wood, leather, etc. are standard or included with one tech package. Its sound system was also used in the Rolls Royce and while debatable, most people are amazed by the sound in the Genesis sedan and G90 even compared to an S class. There are options which add up but again, it's very cheap compared to similar cars even if you add the V8 and AWD. I just specced out an V6 S90 and without rear reclining seats or anything fancy, it's $86k. Just to compare, I looked at a fully equipped G90 which came up to $84k (Canadian). Personally, I'd take a big luxurious limo at that price point.

    I like Volvo. And I hope it thrives under Chinese ownership. I just believe that it's a little to much for a 4 Cylinder product. And the jury is still out on the reliability of these 4 cylinder power plants years down the road.
    I don't see to many of them. They only sold 7,682 in the States in August.
    Base price in Canada is $66,723.39 for the S90.

      Provided the four cylinder engine is designed with 300+ bhp and commensurate matching torque in mind there's no problem. Basically it boils down to the engine being designed from the ground up as a turbocharged unit rather than a turbo being added to the design further along the line.

    Can't wait for the Polestar S90, it may have a triple charged I4 and electric motor for 500+ hp.

    They look nice and always have. But its been so long since they have built a rwd car and that just kills it for me. Not to mention the little 4 banger.
