The woman she was singing about was the local school bus driver who told one of her kids that she would be their new Mamma. Did not go down with Loretta - I wouldn't cross that woman ! Turns out it really was her town. She bought a big country property that she loved and didn't realise that the whole small town came with it until she was finalising he deal ...... so it was HER town ! 😆

My 88 year old dad is a huge fan of Loretta, especially her duets with Conway Twitty. So I was lucky to grow up hearing her songs. My favorites are Fist City, You aint woman enough to take my man, & You're the reason our kids are ugly (with Conway).
Loretta was best friends with Patsy Cline, who was the first female to hit it big in country music. Prior to her arrival on the scene, it was mostly a male dominated genre of music. Patsy is my all time favorite country artist. After she died in a plane crash at the young age of only 30 yrs old, Loretta gave birth to twin daughters & named one of them Patsy, in honor of her friend. Patsy's biggest hit was Crazy, but other favorites are I fall to pieces, Walkin' after midnight, & Tennessee waltz.

First reaction I've seen from y'all. Loretta was still fiesty in jer elder years. 2018, she recorded RUBY'S STOOL for one of her last albums. It's feistiness os somewhere between You Ain't Woman Enough (To Take My Man) and Fist City. It's setting is a bar room. What she sings in the song, I have seen happen several times in bars before. Check it out.
