The work God is doing through you two has literally saved my marriage. All glory to God for your lives, your ministry and your willingness to share yourselves with us.

Great episode and I would definitely say spot on based on personal experience. Are you going to do an episode or have you done an episode on marriage post infidelity and divorce? That’s the journey I’m on right now. Thankfully, I’m married to a woman who is understanding of the fact that I still have some healing to do.

We have one coming out next week that will discuss dealing with shame after an affair; it gets a little intense, but in the end it's immensely encouraging. Watch out for that one!

My ex-wife cheated on me a couple of times and eventually left me for someone else. About three years later I met a wonderful woman whom I married to now. Even though I thought I had healed from that experience since getting married I have discovered that there are still some areas I wasn’t aware of that need to be healed.
In regard to overcoming shame, I’ve always thought it was very interesting that even though I was not the one who had an affair I still wrestled with the shame of living with it. I almost stopped going to church at one point even though I hadn’t done anything wrong. It’s a very interesting dynamic. I’ll definitely keep an eye out for that next episode.

This is good information... but the husband seems to interrupt his wife all the time
If he would be gracious and let her finish this would be much more effective

I typically reserve comments and allow mistakes or missteps in these type of settings to just be that. However, this topic, it’s powerful implications in the future of families, the covenant between God and a spouse and more are leasing me to give you my thoughts. These are with love and an awareness of the ministry you’re trying to develop.
You cannot, at any time, as you reference multiple times, make light of this topic, especially when you are the ones ministering. These are very real, damaging and cause suffering in marriages on a daily basis. My recommendation is to look at each other more in the context of how would you counsel someone suffering through this.
It’s a huge disservice to those who are doing all they can to fight the evil one, as we all do at given times, to only view this in the context of a marriage which has not faced the darkest depths.
Sarah is full on in attack mode in my marriage but also in the ministry I’m developing. I know it and am aware of it but a good question is “How do you help your spouse be aware of the enemy and his tricks in your marriage?” Many times one spouse is more mindful of what is going on than the other. We can do more to help reassure and strengthen our spouse in times of distress or temptation.
Also, examine deeper how a spouse can look into the context of their past and bring intimacy to their marriage by being open about it. I was a victim of sexual abuse from age 5-12 and my first wife died violently in my arms our first month of marriage. Helping my wife see where that has an impact on our marriage is not only crucial to fight the negative patterns, it is also an opportunity to grow closer and surrender some of the pain we may have experienced in the past.
    God bless.

What do you think about spouses keeping their computers and phones locked and not telling you the password?

No hugs? Wow. I do think they can be problematic, but to eliminate them altogether is extreme. There are appropriate and inappropriate hugs. We ought to use discernment. We are believers in a book that tells us to greet one another with holy kisses.

As an absolute rule, no, but as a 99.9% of the time rule, probably a good idea for many cultures. Discernment is a must, and I (Ryan) can't think of a good reason to give a woman a front-facing, both arms, cheeks touching hug unless it's my wife or my mom. But it's definitely culturally contingent as well.
