"Do you want to hit a two- or onehanded backhand?"
Alberto Berasategui: "Yes."
Interesting enough, Borg had a similar backhand, maybe that's where he got it from
@@GIN.356.A thats very true
Borg: *Yes*
By the way, he used the same extreme grip to serve, to hit the forehand, and to hit the backhand. That is really crazy.
@@marcosdoyter7460 When you are really lazy to change the grip..so you change the technique.
Quite fun to recall that Florian Mayer was also part of the Unorthodox forehands video. What a bizarre style of play this guy had haha
To me, he is bizarre but elegant.
@@thedragontactic Tbh although it's possibly to be 'bizarre but elegant', I would never call Mayer's strokes elegant.
Yeah and Mayer's fake BH stops were absolutely hilarious too
@@alephnull4044 who's the girl?2:31
They didn't even show his patented jumping two-handed backhand dropshot!
For those who ask for Shapovalov, Stan, etc., unorthodox means very unusual, not powerful or amazing or best. Shapo and Stan have special backhands, but they don’t deviate too much from what we’re used to seeing. The ones in the video are truly rare.
Daniel Maluenda unorthodox has nothing to do with power/amazing/best.
Shap jumping backhand not unique?
@@dragan3659 WHAT DOES UNORTHODOX MEAN IN TENNIS ANYMORE
When it is unorthodox, that shot is likely not the best in the sport.
@@user-ri3is5jr7y I would have to disagree with that actually. The best players in the world, are typically very rare, so rare that they're unique abilities get them far. If you don't change what we're used to seeing, how do you raise the level?
5:33 Karlovic hitting a backhand
Me: imposible
They only had one topspin winner clip lol
@@catandfishfc In his final of Delray Beach 2015 vs Donald Young, Ivo hit like 2 or 3 topspin backhand passing winners!
😅
@@gregorsamsa555 Thing is, when he does hit a topspin backhand it's actually so regularly a winner just due to his opponent not expecting it. I've seen him hit so many topspin backhand winners that with any other player would have just been another rally shot but his opponent wasn't prepared for it.
@@brendanm6921 not just a winner, but usually a passing shot too
Medvedev's backhand kind of looks like a lefty's two-handed forehand.
pure pleasure
1:09 Looked like a Cricket Shot by a left handed batsman .
Definitely played cricket in his youth!
@@nuhashahmed7692 not cricket but baseball. But his forehand was very modern with heavy topspin.
@@menon_ji4984 1:07
Florian Mayer qualified for both videos!
and Medwedew.
The biggest problem for Jim was that his short preparation and extreme grip meant he sometimes had trouble driving through the ball and getting as much as say Agassi can on low balls. Also at times he would meet the ball a bit too far out in front and use mainly arm strength to get his pace. It was also hard for Jim to hit crosscourt when he was at all late getting to the shot. This wasn't so much a problem as he tended to always favour the backhand corner anyways. Still....most of the time it was certainly adequate and when pressed he certainly could come up with some great shots. It's just that the backhand was mediocre while the forehand was a thing of terror.
Yeah, turn up the music so we don't have to hear Berlocq's "BLEEHEHHEEH"
Berlocq grunts like hes using kaioken x10 result = the slowest top spin ball that barely pass to the other side of the net
@@diegosotomiranda4107 Yeah :D At least with Thiem or Nadal one can see what they grunt for with how heavy their shots are
I'd rather have no music at all. I hate it when music is used in tennis videos. I want to hear the racket hitting the ball, the screeching of the shoes on the court etc, not a repetitive backing track. The music here is not as overpowering as it frequently is, but it is still a bit too much, and I would rather it be absent.
@@Hyde2142 RHIS MUSIC IS UNORTHODOX ER
I always loved Jim Courier's baseball style backhand
Few of them looked like Cricket Shots by Left Handed Batsman.
@@SorcerorStrange yes
@TIGERSABU Me too 🥰
Looks horrible
@@YoureInMySpotFBPAGE looks sexier
That last shot was the only topspin BH I have EVER seen Dr Ivo hit!
me too
Medvedev has one of the best bh cross court, plus it is very difficult to read
3:21 Bruguera had a very special Backhand too. Short swing while his Racket had a vertical Position. Also with huge topspin.
How about Kyrgios' backhand? He makes his backhand look like 0 effort all the time like wtf
I agree with you, Christ.
Kyrgios and Fognini both have no backswing on their BH.
@@purplecoffinman8510 it s like federer on the slice backhand
Roddick, Dolgopolov's slice, Sela's backswing and Philip Petzchner (no backhand haha)
Few criticisms:
1) Didn’t include Bjorn Borg, who has one of the most iconically unique backhands.
2) Berlocq and Karlovic don’t really have unorthodox backhands
3) You showed points from Kukushkin that didn’t show how he normally hits the ball. On the dead run, a lot of players would have adjusted their strokes like he did.
Other than that, decent video I suppose.
How many backhand winners would Courier hit per match?
1-2 winners?
Jim Courier should also be in the list of most unorthodox forehands, I think.
Jim courier had a backhand like a left handed batsman in cricket
Yes but his forehand was Very powerful.
Baseboll
lol was thinking the exact same
Medvedev now just simply has the best backhand in the ATP
True
Jim Couriers backhand looks like a more extreme version of Roddick’s
Karlovic's unorthodox backhand = normal topspin backhand
I miss Florian Mayer:/
meanwhile, while Medvedev's backhand doesn't look pretty to say the least, it has actually helped me find the angles with my backhand stroke so much better:O
His backhand is pretty good
LMAO karlovic has a onehanded backhand?
he has No backhand practically
Similar to Steve Johnson
Wait wait... Karlovic won a match on clay against Bautista??
Daniele Rina Bautista isnt exactly amazing on clay
@@daniele5914 Doctor Ivo's first title was on clay in Houston, against Argentine clay court specialist Mariano Zabaleta, who would guess...
1:30 the sidespin Jim imparted on that ball is ridiculous for a backhand
I think Djokovic developed his backhand from watching Jom Courier. Similar form, but Djokovic upgraded it with a lot more amplitude (thus power), wrist movement (thus spin), and direction (thus accuracy).
Yes jom courier had an amazing backhand
@@anujjyothykumar4667 forehand too
Cool of them to include one topspin from Karlovic just to show that he is actually (sometimes) able to hit it. :D
Is Karlovic really that unorthodox? He just slices everything.
Odd that this video showed Alberto Berasategi’s backhand and did not show Borg’s backhand as both backhands are identical.
People don’t realise norries backhand is really his strength, he will make that so much more than his forehand
Courier's one looks like he tought he was playin baseball for first few years when he built his groundstrokes 😂
Courier's backhand looks heavily inspired by cricket.
Jim Courier's backhand is a bit like a cricketer
And Karlovic is like a ping pong player
Courier is an ex baseball player in his youth...his backhand is a baseball swing...if u look closely...i use the same technique because i switched over from baseball to tennis as a youth also..
After watching Federer, Djokovic, Nadal, Wawrinka, Gasquet.... I realize these backhands in this video could never be uglier =))
Tennis TV is good for the game, that's for sure, always posting something new and unique
I wish there were more singles courts these days
Does norrie use the same side of the racquet for both sides?
Rios’ air two handed backhand si a very beautiful e example of an unorthodox smash
Could anyone please tell me why these backhands are unorthodox, I just cannot distinguish, unlike in the forehands part - very obvious. Thank you loads!
Should have included Steve Johnson.. lol he has no backhand
@@kucingmeowcanteq7994 this video already showed he hit a backhand clean without slices
I’ll never understand why people don’t think a backhand slice is a backhand.
5:33 the only lifted backhand made by Ivo Karlovic and that we could see....
How many types of spin do you want?
Mayer: Yes
Old, but a classic example is Borg with his inbetween one-hander, two-hander.
interesting to see Karlovic's backhand featured because his opponents attack it like crazy.
Benard Tomych's forehand is Jim Courier's backhand
That alberto guy, is he a one hander or 2 hander? Im so confused
It's a more drastic example of how Bjorn Borg used to hit his backhand. It's a sort of one-hander that starts with both hands on the racquet, both hands on the racquet on contact, then the follow through is like a regular one-hander.
2 handed, since that's what makes contact. Lets go after contact. Same as Borg's
How Kukushkin is in the top 500 with those groundstrokes mesmerizes me.
Marat Safin, nicest two-handed backhand
Most powerful
@@SorcerorStrange either him or nalbandian
@@ml_gamer8344 Also Kafelnikov, nowadays Đoković
Nope. Its nalbandian
@@muhammadazzam7545 nalbandian had best top spin, agassi had best flat backhand and safin mix of both. Djokovic has the most consistently successful backhand in history
Berasategui's, the weirdest one
Ivo generally used a lot of slices because of his height and serve&volley tactics
Now we want Most Unorthodox Tennis Players serves
Kukushkin plays regular backhand like slice ive noticed that really long time ago.
Dolgopolov: Am I a joke to you?
When we’re young our coaches and parents tell us to both hands on the racquet for the whole two hand backhand. Berasategui was like no, I don’t think I will
Demonstrated that if Florian Mayer could be an ATP 100 then anybody can!!!
Courier´s backhand the top reason why he had a short career though greatly successful till 1993-94. Afterwards the decline was downhill until retirement in 2000.
Jim Courier was a golf player
Just shows that you can be successful with very unorthodox shots, just need practice, persistence and confidence
Weird question but does anyone know what song is used in thsi video?
Y el famoso revés en el aire de Ríos?
Man! This is weird, but I love the background music on this video. Someone tell me which one is it?
Isn't Karlovic's backhand basically the OG backhand, and therefore, the most orthodox?
How is Borg's bent elbow backhand not on the list? Or Roddick's "wiggle" 2 hander. Or Youzhnys ultra fist grip 1 hander. Or Mcenroe?
Karlovic is only slice
Rafa's backhand is sooo underrated, like no joke!
Yeah its crazy
@@mattlee7463 Ye, I know! Rafa's backhand is insane!!!
@@arildwiig-fisketjn1141 funny joke
@@andresmartinezmuro134 the only joke here is you
Rafa's backhand is not underrated. It is widely considered one of the strongest in the game right now.
Medvedev's backhand is world-class.
anyone know the song?
Rogers backhand is the most unique to me
Ivo the GIANT is scary good.
Where is Shapovalov's jumping backhand?, that's one of my favorite shots in current tennis
It is a perfect shot
This series is about weird techniques. Shap's backhand has typical technique, just that he jumps with it more times than most players, but that doesnt change anything. Jumping shots dont alter technique, they only give you more Power or better placment to return the Ball instead of hitting it high (unconvinient).
its not unorthodox
On a technical level, Shapovalov's backhand's pretty normal all things considered. Jumping is just for hitting down into the court and better placement, but it doesn't really affect the technique too much.
@@JimKirk1 👌👍
Love the video, but by any chance does anyone know where I could find the music?
courier looks like he's playing baseball
Anyone know the music??
If Jim wasn't good at tennis, he would've been great at baseball
Courier's backhand was impossible to read. You just don't know here he's gonna place the ball.
Couriers bakhand looks more like a golf shot
Mayer is in both unorthodox forehand and backhand
Jim courier could have made a cricket career out of that back foot shots
Santoro ???
He isn't unorthodox style in either wings. Though he plays both side double hander or both wings slices in most cases.
Wait...So Karlovic literally only slices on his backhand...Wow...
0:34 didn't take his eyes off the ball. Even long after it left his racquet!
Ruel Morales it was a no look shot
@@winobu8026 I disagree. It was a defensive shot. No time for a no look trick shot. Maybe just focus on making good contact to send it as cross court as possible.
Not sure why karlovic backhand is in this video
Is Florian Mayer the THINNEST/SKINNIEST athlete ??
Vesely also
4:20 What happen with Dimi's hair !? Is that Japan samurai style!!!!!???
Carlos Berlocq is rial GOAT
What s unorthodox with medevedev s backhand
Kyrgios?
Kyrgios and Roddick as well
His backhand isn’t considered unorthodox
Two handed backhands dominate tennis these days that anyone with a one handed backhand can be considered unorthodox.
Davydenko
atp: how many unorthodox shots do you have?
florian mayer: yes
Courier's backhand makes me wanna puke..what is that thing?
he still made it number 1 and won 4 majors somehow
@@roter13 given his backhand he has my eternal respect for achieving that lol
Wot, no Stan The Man's superb backand ? Tut. x
Dolgo’s backhand??
Look at Federer hit that last backhand! PeRFection!
Mannarino's forhand, too.
Youznhy has a very unorthodox backhand.
Mainly because he prepares like he's gonna play two handed but it's a one handed in the end. Marc Rosset had combo both one hand and two hand backhand
Im from Bilbao, the city where was born berasategui
I think this video is stretching it a bit. Not sure Medvedev's backhand, for example, is especially unorthodox. Cameron Norrie's backhand is ugly, but not unorthodox.
Feel like Norrie could be on the video for both wings.
