- How to remove the clutch master cylinder on the VW Scirocco.
This is my first Clutch master cylinder replacement, it's not as thorough as most of my videos but hopefully it will still help.
This should cover a lot of the VAG group 2.0 tdi cars and more.
VW Scirocco, Golf, Polo, Passat, Touran
Seat Leon, Exeo, Ibiza
Skoda Fabia, Octavia, Yeti
Audi A1, A3, A4, A5, A6 Авто/Мото
You saved me hours of frustration trying to remove the master cylinder. Very informative video. Thank you 🙏🏻
You’re very welcome and thanks for the comment!
Mate your a total gem, your video is very professional and easy to understand. My clutch pedal is doing the same, but I think it's the rubber seal gone. Then bang you show the seal part number, found so easily after watching your video. Cheer for that.
Thanks Shaun, hope you got sorted!
Where do you search to find that part? Which website?
Made this job so easy when it happened on my MRS car. Thanks a bunch matey - on a Skoda Octavia TDI 2009
Glad to help and thanks for the comment!
Thank you good sir. You have helped me replace the master on my Audi A3 which has the same setup. I appreciate this video.
Really glad to help!
Can a bad cylinder cause an a3 to make the clutch feel like it's slipping? My a3 is not engaging but it's also not getting full power when in gear
Nice one, saved me so much time now I know what I’m looking for. The other vid working out if it was master or slave helped me out big time 👍
Thank you for taking your time doing this
I really hope it helps, thanks for the comment!
Very helpful video , just have done mine in Vw caddy 👍
Thanks dude I was stuck on a golf top nut same layout as this car I know what to do tomorrow
Whay hay good job, good job your sir are a legend thanks.
Great video 👍
My 2012 transporter has just started doing this, need to have a look at it tomorrow, I’m going to replace the oil as well 🤞🏻 it’s an easy fix
Thank you man... My clutch pedal gave out today in my caddy... Same set up... Now I know where I'm at.... Cheers from Australia...
Good luck sorting it Greg, thanks for the comment!
@@IAMASPANNER it sure is in a prick of a spot! Panels inside the car are different to sirroco in how they come out.... They don't.... But I found all the screws and bolts the same... Now I'm waiting for the part... And its long weekend here in Australia... Yay...
@@gc33 it’s no fun at all, I was fighting with the pipe underneath for a long time and access is blocked by other parts, glad you’re on with it though.
@@IAMASPANNER bleeding is a bitch tho without a pressure bleeder... Took me almost the whole day. Figured out that the master pretty much needs to be primed before install and take the hose off the reservoir... Seems OK now... Have left it overnite to settle... Hopefully OK this morning.
@@IAMASPANNER I battled with that pipe also. But I found that if I left the pedal assembly loose, and I tweaked the pipe angle back to the cab just a fraction it went straight on. The hard bit was then holding the pipe in and pushing the locking clip in with one hand
Great video
Good info like the seals well explained.
I can do these in 20mins start to finish, next one you do take the air box out so you can get around the back for the pipes, much better than over the top.
Brilliant wee video good job
Thanks David!
Thank you for helping us and for your time. 😊😊
You’re very welcome, thanks for the comment!
Dude! So many thanks for this video. I thought I was going to have to change the master cylinder, so I watched this video intently. Then I realised that where it was leaking from was not the master cylinder, but the plastic part on top of the high pressure line. After pulling out and reseating the line, the leak has stopped - free of charge! (Although I will attempt to buy the plastic bit and a seal kit in case it returns.) Do you want you have a way for me to send you a few quid for a pint, as you have saved me a packet!
I’m very glad to have helped and well done for finding and fixing it yourself. I’m happy with a new subscriber and grateful for the comment 👍
Had same problem pedal stuck to floor and your video was the one I came across first and a gotta say thanks for sharing it like bro helped me solve my problem and saved me £££££ 🙏👍
Really glad to help Arthur, thanks for taking the time to comment 🙏
Thanks for the info, our local garage quoted me £500 to replace the master cylinder on my partner’s scirocco. It’s a pig of a job though. My hands are almost too big to get behind the bulkhead. I bought a seal kit. What are the o rings for?
Thanks 👍🇬🇧
Hi would this be the same method on my Seat Leon 2013 diesel fr?
Easier on a right hand steering version as the cylinder isnt behind the dpf on those models
Hi thanks for your great video. I have changed my master cylinder on my Passat and when pumping the pedal I can’t get it to bleed through absaloutly nothing comes out the bleed nipple. I’ve checked the seal is on properly. Do you have any thoughts. Starting to wonder wether the new part is faulty.
Hi David, in my experience they are awful to bleed. I had to use a pressure bleeder and even reverse bled once to sort the one on this car. Although, it turned out the slave cylinder was faulty on this car too, genuinely both were faulty.
Great video, thank you! I've just had a new master and slave cylinder put in. We weren't sure which was causing the issue of the pedal being stuck to the floor so started with the master. Turned out to be the slave. So I got the clutch done at the same time as the slave. Now my clutch pedal is very squeaky and the bite is about 1-2inches off the floor.. have you got any idea if "running in the new parts" will solve this.. or does it sound like something is wrong? Thank you
The clutch bite will tend to be lower with a new clutch plate installed. You are probably used to the bite being high as your clutch was worn.
It may or may not be correct but it will be different to what you were used to before. If you’re unsure you could have the clutch bled again, perhaps a pressure bleed or vacuum bleed.
Hi has anyone else had an intermittent sticking pedal on the way up in 1st gear. I’ve had it on 3vag cars Octavia and 2 ateca’s . On the Octavia Skoda changed the clutch completely. The feeling is like the pedal pauses on the way up ,sometimes it stops in position.sometimes it delays the clutch biting.any s
Certain ideas what to look at .seat service manager had the car over a few days and didn’t find it😮.
Hi, nice slow well explained video, thanks!. So my question is how does the feed pipe come off? Do you just pull it off or is there a clip or something to be pressed before you pull off the feed pipe to the clutch master cylinder?
Thank you, the feed pipe from the reservoir is just pull to removed. There’s a rubber insert in the end of the pipe, make sure you don’t lose it!
@@IAMASPANNER Guees what I didnt have to remove either master or slave cylinder...I just bled the clutch with a pressure bleeder and it been perfect for about 4 weeks now....Was it the fluid...car is 10 yrs old and clutch fluid was never changed, never did it on my evious car of 10 yrs also...
Any input or ideas as tohow/ what exactly happened with me?
@@cannonshot7778 the brake fluid can absorb water and on manufacturers such as BMW a fluid change is part of the service schedule. Glad you got sorted without the expense, very lucky!
My golf gtd occasionally makes a spring twang noise when i press the clutch then quickly subsides. Only happens very intermittently and only at the very start of a journey. Any idea what this could be? Any idea where the clutch reservoir is to check the level of fluid is it down where the master cylinder is where you showed or near where the bleed nipple is?
The clutch system uses the same reservoir as the brakes so it’s too left of the engine bay. Have a look up in the footwell see if you can see anything that would cause the noise. The pedal is spring loaded so something could be loose or catching up there.
Genial
I'm about to look at this on my golf. The pedal aint to the floor yet but iv got a good 2 or 3 inches play in the pedal before the clutch actually engages any idea what I should be checking before I buy one?

You've got the exact same fitbit and exact same magnetic wristband as I do - uncanny!
The magnet gets stuck to everything while working on cars!
@@IAMASPANNER haha yep a lot of the time I'll stick it to the hood til I'm done
I'm doing this job at the moment got the new seals. I'm struggling to get the plastic feed pipe on to the cylinder the rubber seal doesn't seem fit for purpose I have the same seal kit as you, how did you do it? Going mental here!!
You definitely didn’t lose the rubber seal? I dropped mine twice! I think I had to lubricate the plastic, it was very awkward to get back on though.
Hi mate. Can you explain more details about how you getting the metal pipe underneath the cylinder out. I'm really struggling to get my one off. I'm doing this on skoda octavia mk2, everything is the same as you doing just can't get the underneath pipe off
The plastic part needs to be unlocked first. It is awkward. I hope you got sorted.
Follow the metal pipe up to a 13mm screw that hold it in place
Since the clutch and brakes share fluid, do you need to also bleed the brakes after replacing the clutch master cylinder? Or is it ok to just bleed from the clutch bleeder block and call it a day?
I think the clutch feed from the reservoir is above the brakes, so in theory evenif your MC dropped all its fluid it wouldn't allow the level to drop so low as to let air into the brake lines. Assuming you've not interfered with the reservoir in any other way of course.
How do you bleed it manually
How much did a garage quote for this work to be done?
My car is stuck outside my house on a busy road as it won’t go into gear but I’m not confident doing this work
The part was £45 and I wouldn't expect to see more than 2 hours labour charge so around £165 would be a good price I think.
Is it also possible to let the peddle in the car and just take the clutch cilinder out and put the new in from of the engine bay?
I think it would be a huge struggle to do it that way as getting the piston connected back to the pedal was difficult even out of the car. Removing the pedal is probably the easy bit in all honesty.
hi mate ive got a 2011 vw golf tdi 2.0 gt ,is the seals part numbers the same cheers
I don’t know for sure, you’re best off giving VW your registration and they will supply the right parts
I have Tiguan . I’m hoping this video will
Help me
I hope so too, good luck!
Hello mate, in the seal kit from vw, what are the O rings for?
The o rings are for the other end of the pipe that goes to the damper. There’s another pipe with the same connector too, I actually ordered the wrong pipe by accident just in case the seal alone didn’t fix the problem.
@@IAMASPANNER is it common for the seals in the damper to go then? I’m having a massive pain in the ass with my A3, I’ve changed the master and the slave and it’ll build pressure to the pedal enough to get it into gear but then after a few rips the pedal goes super soft again so I’m lead to believe that air is getting in somewhere
I don’t think it is but the seals and pipes come as kits. I’m having issues with this car too. The clutch worked fine for 1 month then got spongy and stopped working. Bled again and it failed within a week. I can’t be of much help right now as it’s not going well for me either!
Do you have to bleed it after? With the pressure bleeder or is that just easier and i can do it without manually?
Sometimes you can be lucky and they’ll gravity bleed on their own but it’s probably best to use a pressure bleeder.
Hello mate, my clutch has gave way yesterday and it’s going straight the floor and using my foot to bring it back up and is leaking onto the floor is this what happened to you?
There was no leak into the footwell for us. If you’ve got leaking then you can be sure it’s the master cylinder at least.
I have a Audi A3 2011 same issue the pedal doesn’t come back up can it be the master cylinder too
Yes it could be, see my previous video to rule out the slave cylinder though: ruclips.net/video/mDcw5Kh5ceE/видео.html
Well done mate. Did you bleed the brakes or only the clutch via the slave cylinder? I've just recently bled the brakes and don't wanna have to do it again lol
You shouldn’t need to bleed the brakes, they only share a fluid reservoir so the brakes shouldn’t have been affected when doing the master cylinder.
Is it possible to replace the seals in the master cylinder?
Even if it is it couldn’t be worth it, the master cylinder is only around £40. I haven’t seen inside one so couldn’t actually say from experience that it’s the actual seals that fail.
Hi, I need to replace clutch Master cylinder on my VW GOLF MK7, is that same like on this video? Thank you!
If the pedals look the same and the bit in the engine bay looks the same then chances are yes it will be the same or very similar anyway.
Hello mate im doing this and ive disconnected everything on the cylinder, undid the nuts but its getting stuck somewhere , any ideas?
Did you get sorted? Was the pipe catching from underneath?
@@IAMASPANNER yeah mate ive sorted it out now, the pipe was indeed catching and i had forgotten the annoying brace in front of the pedal, had troubles with bleeding this afternoon but in the end all is fixed now ☺️
@@noobssucken glad you got sorted!
Just wich you had shown the part number of the new master cyl ,you only showed p/n for new rubber seals
Sorry about that Colin, it was a Sachs part. Call your local motor factors and give them your registration and they’ll give you the correct part for your vehicle.
The oil line that comes in at the bottom wobbles, do you know what could cause that? I have both seals, but it wobbles and doesn't seal
Which bit is wobbling? If both the seals are in place then maybe the plastic part isn’t pushed in fully?
Been priced 201 fitted to have this done good price ?
Sounds ok, the part I bought was Sachs and £45. The fitting doesn’t take that long but the bleeding can be ridiculous so it’s probably a good price all in.
@@IAMASPANNER cheers for reply fella
How do you remove the wiring harness? You skipped over that part and that's where I'm stuck lol
Same
Sorry about that, it was my first time doing one so it was a bit difficult for me to record. I hope you managed to do it!
U figure it out I’m stuck there right now
Do I pull the clip up push it in or out idk I’ve tried everything
@@gagebowens2767 I had to use a dental style pick to pull out the retainer clip, I ended up pulling out inside through the firewall and taking the pedal assembly off with it.
Currious if that white plastic piece that the ball end of the pushrod goes into is available for purchase. Part number? Mine was lost after ball end broke off.
No idea of the part number but I’m sure it will be available from VW
Kya clutch cylinder Maruti 800 me lag Sakta hai please reply

I have to do the same but at least my engine is out .
I just had the engine out to do the brake servo. Reassembled , drove 10 miles and the clutch master cylinder has now developed a leak! 🙉🙉🙉
Outrageous. Plastic master cylinder ffs
Very common now unfortunately
