Have exactly the same issue in a vw Touran. Quoted £490 to fix. I’m two hours I’ve got everything I clipped and I’m waiting for the spare part. I know if I went to a garage, I wouldn’t be quoted that but I think every man should be able to service and do basic repairs on a vehicle they own.
The brake fluid level does not go low in these vehicles because the feeder pipe for the clutch system is very high on the brake fluid reservoir. Even if there is a leak on the clutch system the fluid in the reservoir reduces up to the point of the feeder pipe.
Excellent, same as mine with cassette deck; brilliant; I've (still!?) hundreds of cassettes, for the car, which sound as good as anything else, if not better, for playing in the car!

Wow, my clutch is currently falling like that and I struggle to select gears. The oil has been changed twice in a month now but by different people. They both said I have to change the master cylinder, but the quotation including labor is on another level. Labour is 3x price of the cylinder. i had the same problem however my master drew air . I did the job removal from engine bay. The pipe assembly needed to be unhinged to get it out of the cilinder. The 2 halfmoon plastic tab are a nightmare to reinstall while in the car . bleeding air on the system slave is also extreem difficult as trapped air in slave wont just come out. I prefill slaves on clutch job due to this.

For what it takes 3 8mm bolts and 3 block connectors from the light switch remove that panel the the 3 13mm nuts take the pedal outits so much easier and I advise get a new white clip coz they always brake iv done loads why make things harder
hi. i have 08 passat 2.0T 6spd manual. last night i lost my clutch, i can press pedal and it comes up. but cannot put in gear. how can I tell if its master or slave cylinder. No leaks anywhere.
First, First, First !!!! Do a purge of the pedal and replace all the brake liquid with new. With a syringe and a little plastic tube suck all the liquid. Press completely your pedal and suck (to suck receptor liquid). In my case (leon 2.0 tdi 170 2010) with the same symptom all goes well since 1.5 year since the problem. The problem was that some dirt come to the system in the pedal, that lock the movement (in my case).
Hi Luis, clearly the new Sachs m-cyl is modified with the flutes on the side of the pushrod as I know these to be troublesome, but plastic parts eh! years ago that would have been steel & never would have broken! Inbuilt obsolescence these days is rife. Do observe one thing though, the color of the brake fluid was black, usually indicative of rubber seal failure somewhere in the system may be the concentric slave cylinder seals are starting to fail, cover your backside man, it may fail in short order! Tell the customer of their discolored fluid & what it may mean. Keith
@@LMAutoRepairs Lol Luis, I Hadn't read it until you just said! there you go then the flywheel problem was causing the concentric slave cyl to 'overstroke' & flex the m-cyl pushrod as it bottomed out many times = too much stress on the pushrod= SNAP!. I wonder why there’s an electric plug on the clutch pedal? Maybe that’s what stops car revving over 3k when clutch is down, also I guess u need to depress clutch to start some cars
How easy is it to replace only the white plastic clip inside the pedal assembly? They commonly break and make an annoying clicking sound everytime i step on clutch. I have replacement clip that the ball of the cylinder rests inside. I want to replace without havnt to completely remove and bleed cylinder. Do you know if thats possible? Thanks

Fuck me so i replace the master cylinder after getting cuts and scratches on my arms and hands, i lose one of those rubber things that holds the pipe together after finding it i try bleeding the clutch and the spring flew off the pedal

Just one question, do you think the cable and pipes would pull through into the drivers bay? it would be a lot easier if it did, I ask as the engine bay on the skoda looks even more crammed full of stuff.

I have an Audi A3 8P (2007) i had an issue like this. My master clutch cylinder broke in the same way as in the video. The reason for why it snapped is because of it suddenly having a whole lot of pressure in the clutch pedal and the plastic rod just couldn't take it. I got the master cylinder replaced and all was fine. But after around 60 days I began having problems shifting again. The clutchpedal sometimes went back slowly instead of as it normally should when let go. I had the brake fluid replaced which is probably the reason for it holding up a bit longer than it should've. What I believe is the issue for my case is that the slave clutch cylinder may be leaking or maybe it gathers air. I'm not a mechanic, so I am simply speculating. What do you guys think it may be? The master cylinder did break from the begining, but it doesn't seem to be the cause of the issue.

@@eugenechelseafc89 It is an expensive repair as the slave cylinder is hard to get to. The part is pretty cheap but the work will be what is expensive I live in Sweden and I went to a smaller business to get it fixed. This separately would have costed a lot less than £3000. In my case I had a total that was around £3000 including some other repairs. I recommend you to ask a mechanic for an estimate before start. I also recommend you to let them take a look around if they find anything else that may be loose or worn. In my case they found that my flywheel and timing chain were a bit loose, I also had a crack in my valve cover. They also noticed that my drive belt was damaged. I got all these parts changed for around £3000. With these parts changed I also got rid of some noise that I had before. Ran smoothly after this.
@@milani5300 Thanks for the reply. I've just had my Audi A3 16reg fixed after encountering the issue on Saturday. Car brokedown at my house and I had to get the breakdown guys to tow the car to the garage where they specialise in clutch repairs. It turns out it was the slave cylinder that was leaking. The dual mass flywheel also got replaced, as it was on its way out, along with the slave cylinder and other parts. The whole job cost £1370. I'm gutted that I had to spend that amount out of the blue but at the same time I'm glad the nightmare's over.
Hello, I have just bought a 2008 A3 1.9tdi and the battery light is coming up on 1 turn of key and it struggles to start and when it does the engine cuts out at low revs at junctions. Tough situation this one, I'm not a fan of over quoting, good will goes a lot further in our trade, but I'd hope the high quotes were for the clearly broken rod AND a new clutch as this was probably the cause
a bad slave cylinder can cause the break in the shaft on the master. The slave binds up and a human leg is strong enough the snap the crappy plastic parts used by VW/Audi/Skoda

You forgot to show how to disconnect the pipes on the rear of slave cylinder inside bonnet cause that's the bit am stuck on the but video jumped that bit
Good job,but you should of recommended the owner of this car to flush the brake fluid as it's so dark ,it was dripping black drops while you were holding the master cylinder.

Audi main dealers are total bandits. My a4 went in for a cam belt and was later informed the oil seals needed replacing on the camshafts and the camshafts had to be removed to do this at a cost of an extra £400 . My Audi had only 40k on the clock so I believe it was all lies. Never went back again .

When I remove the cylinder from the engine bay do I need to pull the shaft out of the cylinder towards the white tubs in the pedal

This fix is only temporary. It will need a clutch kit and flywheel very soon. Unless the failure was due to heat from the exhaust.

If the clutch is slipping, either is your clutch, pressure plate or flywheel... there not mutch more to it...

After the replacement of the Master cylinder (by a mechanic, not me) the clutch become very hard to press.

Audi main dealers are total bandits. My a4 went in for a cam belt and was later informed the oil seals needed replacing on the camshafts and the camshafts had to be removed to do this at a cost of an extra £400 . My Audi had only 40k on the clock so I believe it was all lies. Never went back again .

Hi Luis, I admire your channel, but... as soon as someone starts broadcasting his work, he should stop doing it 'garage' way - showing how you mess around with car fluids, in this case dripping breake fluid all over your driveway, is not a good example to follow. The rest is top performance as usually. Peace! 😜
I always try to minimize the spillage... I usually collect the fluids and dispose them in a recycling center near me...

Do not buy an A3 if that is a indication of the engineering.
