I had the privilege to see Bettye LaVette, the Queen of Soul, Sunday night in Minneapolis . She takes a song and makes it her own. What a very humble and gracious person. Her struggle for fame was real. She is 74 and danced her way across the stage and through the audience. Bettye did this.. not some promoter. Barry Gordy turned her away, Detroit turned he away and yet she did it.
