    This will NEVER EVER be old. The build up from a normal, calm speaking president, to an annoyed, upset brotha from the corner was a genius idea. TV audiences from ‘77 were not ready for a show like this. The Richard Pryor Show should’ve been on HBO. He would’ve had more artistic freedom there.

    • @dupehotterthansoup
      @dupehotterthansoup Год назад +29

      The audience wasn't the problem. It was the network. They wanted to be in the Richard Pryor business without fully understanding the Richard Pryor business, so they tried to tame him, and he wanted out of his contract.

      Was HBO out then, or was HBO even a big deal then ??
      I know HBO was huge during the 80's but IDK if it was that big of a deal back in the 70's. He probably wouldn't have had that big of a audience on the HBO platform back during the 70's. I don't think cable was as huge as it was during the 80's, back in the 70's.

      Yeah those four episodes made mainstream America very uncomfortable. One memorable episode ended when they discovered a tomb with writings, astrology signs, math and he realized the authors were Black! The episode closed with 'fade to black' and a suprised look on Pryors face as his fellow explorers quickly sealed up the tomb!
