A good video, but I'd honestly like a bit more of a detailed breakdown of the 501st. You completely ignored the morality for the Naboo mission, where they said they sent emissaries back in "various states of dismemberment."
Shadow Elite 117 - As the video said, this is Part 2, with Part 1 being “the journal of the unknown 501st soldier (something something “being so dark”) “. That one focused on the 501st during the Clone Wars and the Empire.
Battlefront EA version could have been an amazing game in an of itself if they just remastered the campaign it would have been like i was a kid again too bad.
That intro of yours just hit me in the face with a war-hammer forged from pure nostalgia. ... Holy shit, it's been too long since i've heard that sound.
Yeah, it really is terrible when the story mentions how their fighting force was crippling, their morale was crippling with every casualty, their once closely held bond of brotherhood was being erased as new diverse recruits took the place of their past brethren. Not to mention that old allies became foes and new enemies were capitalizing on their weaknesses due to all this change, which really took its toll on the ancient relic that is the 501st.
Shadow Elite 117 Imagine losing half the fighting force of one of the elite battalions in your army in a single incident. The morale of the 501st would have severely deterioriated but there was way too many that are battle hardened from decades of fighting. They lost brothers that they literally grew up with from birth and used their deaths to motivate them to eradicate the rebellion.
I dont feel too bad for them. They defended an empire that oppressed its citizens and stripped away the liberties and freedom people had under imperial rule. Idk, I just cant feel bad for the clones and soilders that supported Imperial rule lol. They arent fighting for the Republic anymore..
Chris McCann More people died under Rebel jurisdiction than Imperial rule. Less than 10 percent of Imperial worlds ever saw an intensive stormtrooper occupation besides Military worlds. The only regions of the galaxy that legitimately had problems with the Empire were the former CIS worlds which were in the outer rim anyway. Sources are Tarkin, Rots
@@Chris-cx3bk Gotta ask, how verse are you in star wars lore? I for sure thought the same for a long time, but as read more into the lore I started switching perspectives. The Empire, in general terms, was like a necessary evil. I can't defend their every action, but for the most part the galaxy was better than it had been for a long time. The Republic was very old and corruption was rampant. After the Empire took over they brought stability into the galaxy.
This was one of my favorite campaigns of all time, especially the gameplay because it gave us another perspective to understand what the iconic events were like to the empire instead of just another typical story of good vs evil and good wins again kind of thing. But their thoughts I feel like were more direct and focused on how they viewed the situation both from a personal and a duty sense, which helped the immersion so much. What I wish they would do is remake this campaign in the modern battlefront 2 with awesome graphics and perhaps touch upon the "Star Wars: Republic Commando sequel" that we will never get when the story takes us into the jedi temple for order 66. This campaign was very enjoyable and really helped many people see how not only the rebels were taking casualties, but the empire and its soldiers were as well. I guess the question at the end of the day is which side do you like, "Heads or Tails" like "Empire or Rebels" (P.S you should make more content like this, it is really interesting to know there are others who like learning about both sides of the war instead of just one.)
No. Even before the Disney wipe, I never liked the Battlefront 2 narrative, and I still don't. Also, fuck the "everyone loves the old EU and hates Disney" narrative.
I agree. The journals were thrown together in a rush, and make the clones to have known all along they were going to kill the Jedi. It makes zero sense.
@@histguy101 Order 66 was a contingency plan. One out of 150 covering nearly all possible scenarios, and the clones had memorized all 150 orders. Why would they not know about it?
@@NEETKitten Ok, and classic BF2 makes it sound like the clones were planning on executing this one single contingency plan throughout the whole war. How could they know they were going to execute "order 66" before the order went out, or even before the Jedi attempted to overthrow the Chancellor?
@@histguy101 The second mission of the game says that the 501st were given direct orders by the Chancellor to retrieve those crystal samples. It makes sense then that Palpatine would have told them that he was suspicious of the Jedi, made up some bullshit to convince the clones that he's right, and told them to prepare for Order 66.
As someone who always roots for the Empire, this game was perfect. This is why I despise the new Battlefront game. Only two missions and then suddenly we switch to Rebel Scum!
12:00 The death star was an inside job. How could a single snub fighter penetrate the most powerful defenses of the Galaxy's history? You're telling me a single proton torpedo could destroy the death star?
It was an inside job. The designer built the reactor to be vulnerable, not only that but there was very little in the way of small fighter defensive AA and was mostly heavy turbolasers for medium to Capital ships.
@Jeffrey Scott I was more joking in my OP, I'm not sure if that came across.... I completely agree with what you wrote... if not thinking you go far enough: remember Luke is basically space Jesus too. Nothing is Jesus proof. He's the son of God. If he wants to destroy the death star by putting a toothpick in the recycling on another planet 200 years before the death star is built, He can do it.
I always loved the after order 66 comics especially the one where one clone was fighting early rebels and he recalled stories of a monster like clone fighting for the rebels and when he was met face to face he looked no different from himself
"What I remember about the rise of the Empire is...how quiet it was." "So this is how Liberty dies, with thunderous applause." Two quotes, but talking about the very same thing.
Lmfao I love how they clearly used gameplay footage for their cutscenes because at 9:57, they show the choked out rebel soldier drop a health and ammo pack when he dies
While i do like the original Battlefront 2 campaign, i do notice a small issue with it. The Battle of Geonosis took place in 22 BBY, the Battle of Hoth took place in 3 ABY, so about 25 years apart from each other. By the time of the battle of Geonosis, Clone Troopers were being made for ten years, and the thing is that they age at twice the rate of normal people. This means that the 5O1'st veteran was, physically speaking, 70 years old at the time of the battle and yet still fought in it.
Anyone know why the Rhen Var, Bespin and Yavin IV arena maps are available in the Xbox One version of the backwards compatible version of Battlefront 2?
@Mythic Ok, so it's similar to how all DLC map packs for Halo Reach became free or Yavin-IV became avaliable in KOTOR once they became backwards compatible
If anything, Hoth was the final nail in the coffin for the Empire. They've already seen what complacency can do to their army, but after Hoth? They not only fell for it again, but dove head first into their own hubris thinking they've won once and for all. And for that, the balance in the force returned. Just not in their favor.
11:40 Disney and even before those who make Star Wars video games don't want us to see this. They just focus on another side As if the empire existed, they feared that children might come forward to fill out applications to join its army
Honestly I love when you do the Galactic Civil War videos😁 They are really ingesting because we never go super in-depth in the original movies, unlike the Prequels because they have SWTCW and that gives us a different point of view on the war.
I would argue that the reason why the game ends with Hoth and not Endor is because there is a good chance that the 501st was wiped out during endor which would include the unknown clone. Therefore he probably didn’t have a chance to write in his journal about the battle.
the fucking naboo mission, there's this one part where it spawns an infinite number of tanks until you capture the objective, and you have one tank and no reinforcements since your ai teammates are so stupid
As much as I dont like Disney, when they did Rebels, they touched on this topic and gave a perspective of clone commanders like Rex. Few like Rex left the Empire in protest of the regime. It was a psychological rollercoaster for many to hunt and kill innocent jedi and civilians of other worlds. They were born to be soldiers and nothing else, so many like Commander Cody who fought side by side with the jedi generals Ben Kenobi or Anakin Skywalker, in the end fought for who ever gave the orders. Think to yourself; what is it like to be human but consider yourself only property, soldiers that can do nothing else but fight. They were "walking timebombs" to most in the galaxy, many did not make it past the completion of order 66 and more were to come. What makes Star Wars such an intriguing story is the depth of its universe, it breathes and grows with more detail as time goes on. Whether you are an old Cannon fan or new, this story will bring us joy and new friends for years to come.
Kinda felt had Diney not buy Star wars i could've seen Rex and what clones he found realize their mistakes in gunning down the jedi and see how their bitterness and jealousy effected others and theme joining the rebels could of shown theme wanting to set things right
@@comicbookreviewer4856 I agree with you on that, and this may not be a shared opinion but the new disney wars is a bit more black and white when it comes to morality, Lucas wars I felt was much more gray area, like Qui-gon Jinn and Ben Kenobi. Those were light side jedi who were more inline with gray jedi codes as time went on. Like Jinn and Dooku commissioning the clone army, this was a necessary evil to achieve a greater goal (even if it didnt end that way). I feel like Disney is trying to get more out of its wheelhouse on these movies, but most Disney films have that underlying good vs evil struggle that only exists in fairy tales. I have been watching "The Bad Batch" and feel they did a good job connecting things and adding new information, but a lot of it conflicts with established cannon (not film but television) like in rebels. I have been infatuated with storm troopers since first seeing the tile white armor and sinister helmets, and as the story progressed that infatuation only grew. I would have loved to see more of the clones stories, since there were millions, I dont find it very likely only a handful of them decided not to take orders or feel some level of remorse for murdering there generals and friends, unlike that dick Cody.
I also think Hoth was the last mission because the Clones were just to old to keep serving so they most likely weren’t at Endor, but probably retired or at Academies as trainers.
Not sure if this channel is the place to do it, but I’d love to see some ideas tossed around for what a similarly-themed campaign could’ve been like using current Canon scenes & story beats (eg Scarif, Endor, Jakku, etc).
I know its a little late to anwser your question of "WHat era should i stick with" But personally, I would love if you covered all eras of star wars. I honestly just sit here with you in the back ground listening to your voice talking about star wars while i play video games. Love the videos so :D
Well covering other eras of the Star Wars galaxy would be great. Especially the Legends timeline to give people an idea of that timeline. Personally I would like to see about the Dark Legacy era, like the Sith-Imperial War, better known as the Second Galactic Civil War.

However, having talked to many such veterans within the German immigrant community and having served 26 years in the Navy myself, everything mentioned here can be said of the Wehrmacht in WW2, The Red Army during the Cold War, and of course the US Military today
I remember being shocked at how great the story was for this game. What a fascinating little bit of writing that went such a long way to enrich the universe and the gaming experience
There wasn't really much analysis here, you just bookended the cutscenes. You don't even mention that the 501st crushed the planet that Anakin saved in phantom menace. They had become the same evil they originally fought, if not worse.
I played the game before I ever watched the movies. That's probably the reason why I have always hated the rebellion and felt bad for stormtroopers and especially clones. Up to this day I always chose the empires side whenever I can.

Ügiustus Keiserus Yeah I know,sadly.
It’s hilarious to think how this game was rushed and yet the game managed 4 game modes, introduced heroes, improved galactic conquest, and can still humiliate EA’s rebooted battlefront.
And Temuera Morrison for voicing it!

Shadow Elite 117 - As the video said, this is Part 2, with Part 1 being “the journal of the unknown 501st soldier (something something “being so dark”) “. That one focused on the 501st during the Clone Wars and the Empire.

... Holy shit, it's been too long since i've heard that sound.
Did that warhammer cost 40k?
Love this video. Its sad to see the 501st deteriorate.
"With no small thanks to the fighting men of 501st."
Original Battle Front 2 journals are cannon in -my- everyone’s opinion

That's how you write a compelling Imperial story line.
Officially there never was a Clone Rebellion on Kamino.
Goddamn the 501st campaign in battlefront II might be one of the best I've ever played. Wish they could have come close to as good a game since.

Honestly I love when you do the Galactic Civil War videos😁 They are really ingesting because we never go super in-depth in the original movies, unlike the Prequels because they have SWTCW and that gives us a different point of view on the war.
The old battlefront games were a masterpiece
I would argue that the reason why the game ends with Hoth and not Endor is because there is a good chance that the 501st was wiped out during endor which would include the unknown clone. Therefore he probably didn’t have a chance to write in his journal about the battle.
More Galactic Civil war Legends conflicts content, please.

the fucking naboo mission, there's this one part where it spawns an infinite number of tanks until you capture the objective, and you have one tank and no reinforcements since your ai teammates are so stupid
Omg the nostalgia at 0:30!! Oh it takes me back to the good old days
I also think Hoth was the last mission because the Clones were just to old to keep serving so they most likely weren’t at Endor, but probably retired or at Academies as trainers.
I always liked to think of it as a parallel universe where the rebellion was actually put down 🤷 That's just me though
I actually came to that conclusion as well, but I guess its up to us to decide what really happened.
Stephen Farmer ah a good ending indeed
Its possible but endor was only a year after hoth so some may still have fought
Vault 69 later batches probably. And some old farts cause we saw rex there.
