But with transmission tech quickly on the rise, could automatic transmissions actually be better than their manual counterpart? On todays episode of Myth Or Fact, Gels sits down to break down the details and go over WHICH transmission is better, and WHY.

You no longer need a manual to feel connected to the car and road.
I would choose the automatic because it is faster but ,I will still love the manual because its fun.
@@MrNoNameForYou but you can feel more connected with one. If a sports car is about connectedness, then why cheap out at the transmission?
Honestly, I'm going for automatic mostly because there's way too much stop-and-go traffic in San Francisco for me to not burn the clutch out
@@lamma109 Going with technology isn't cheaper out. It's more expensive. Have you driven them? You can choose shift points ect. You're very connected. Just because there's not a clutch doesn't mean you not connected. Your more connected possibly now to the road at least. Your doing one less step with the vehicle but you're putting that energy into the road. More gears the car can go through ect.
Let’s be real here. It doesn’t matter if you have an automatic or a manual. What matters is that you’re happy with what you own.

in 2021 yes, 30 years ago the manual all day long.
Automatics are indeed faster than their manual counterparts, especially nowadays, but they have their flaws just like how manuals have their flaws.
Basically you can't compare a automatic from a Honda to a automatic from a lambo.
All the kids who can't drive stick, and cruise around in their automatic civics saying "but automatics are faster", yes but yours isn't.
Yep, 4 speed automatic is slow asf. For 90's car, manual is the good to go.
Tbf though good luck finding a good manual when they're bro taxxed to high hell
And that's the truth, I always say manuals make slow cars fast.
That's like comparing apples to oranges lmao why even try

Not as connected to the car as manual but still connected enough for me to get super attached to the car. I wouldn't trade it for nothing. Il eventually just buy a v8 hopefully manual. If by the time I buy the v8 the manuals are gone il be sad but I will eventually get my v8 it will just take 6 years and even then the horse power will go up even higher on v6 and v8 just like they have been. My v6 will be my everyday driver and v8 weekend car. I wouldn't mind a c7 or c8. I still think the c7 still looks super awesome. C7 and c8 are at a tie breaker for me for the time being.

I've been daily driving a manual transmission in NYC for about 5 months now. It really doesn't matter where you live you just have to practice releasing your clutch to the biting point and you will never stall. Even on hills.
Manuals are nice but nothing beats driving in heavy traffic than having an automatic. Heck I couldn't stand paddle shifting in heavy traffic so I could imagine a regular Manual.
We 2 step in busy traffic with manuals while the automatics can only coast along.
Its actually not as bad as it seems . and your ability to pass is way better
Once you get used to it, it's becomes muscle memory and requires no more effort than driving an auto in traffic.
this is why you learn new routes and leave earlier. Take the highways EARLY MORNING. 3-8AM (here in Dallas at least) take backroads anytime after that, NOT MAIN STREETS (only main streets until you get to that “shortcut” point) and you should be ok getting wherever

I had a automatic as a first car of course then I swapped over to manual and never looked back since!! Autos are great 👍🏾 no hate ! But a manual is just a preferred preference for me 🕹
The only bad part about Manuals (that I know of) is the manual tax. I'd love one too (again, preference. How can people enjoy a car if they’re driving an automatic?
I’ve only owned manuals for the last 7 years I don’t plan on getting an automatic. Also when your building a car it’s harder build up an auto to withstand extra hp. Additionally manuals are much better on maintenance and you feel one with the car. It makes the driving experience more fun.

I find it funny that autos get a lot of hate in the car community, however theres so many modifications out there with the purpose of making a manual function more like an auto.
I mean a sequential gearbox is basically like paddle shifters.
I live in NYC and drive through manhattan a lot. I only have 1 car, so I got mine in auto. Paddle shifters and a TCU tune to let me hit rev limit and stop the car from auto upshifting are the best of both worlds for me. I'm happy with it, and that's what matters. Be happy with your transmission choice!
Lets all come together as car enthusiasts and not worry about others preferences.
No screw that, we need to bash each other until only 1 car is left in the parking lot. That 1 car will be the TRUE ENTHUSIAST!
Lol! What, because they’re too sensitive to a little ribbing?
I hate that the manual transmission is about to be extinct. I think, if anything, manufacturers should at least have the option to special order a manual.
Yeah it really depends on the car/company some brands are trying to reinvigorate it like the upcoming 400Z is gonna be standard 6 speed manual and other countries often don’t have auto as standard
it all comes down to money... car enthusiasts say they love manual transmissions but vehicle sales show that way more people buy automatics than manuals, to the point where a lot of the time its not even profitable to produce a manual transmission model.
of course they can put a special order option for manual trans but imagine the cost of RND for a whole transmission set just for special order , its just not financially plausible.
unless more people buy brand new manual cars, car companies will inevitably stop producing them :(

Unless I’m tracking times, I’d choose to be in control of my gears and drive a manual any day! Makes driving so much more enjoyable. Definitely don’t need to save 1 second to get to the stop light.
Its easier to drive a automatic car fast then a manual, manual takes more driver skill and because of that is more fun to drive imo
It's pretty easy to drive a manual at speed. It's much harder to pull off low speed parking lot maneuvers and cold starts on hills (especially icy or wet hills).
Depends on who’s driving. Maybe someone who’s been driving manuals all their life will have fun BUT may not be fun for someone who just wants to go fast out the box.

if you can get a dual clutch, do it. they’re great. i’ve driven multiple manuals but i love my DSG.
Autos are generally faster, and more efficient now, that part is undeniable. But there is something with just throwing gears that I have never found with the autos. A nice dual clutch or single is amazing to drive, and tons of fun, but its that missing little factor of something that isn't describable.
I get way better city with a manual. Just put her in neutral and coast to the light, my junkbox was rated for 24 city 33 highway. I managed a combined 36 mpg 2 individual times before I went back down to 24 because I was bored of driving like some soccer mom. Faster if we are talking any dual clutch, PDK, or 2015 and newer single clutch auto I agree. No hate, just saying.

I still like being in the manual car category because I like thinking my car may roll back at parking lots
I'd like to point out that that for most (at least modern) trans capabilities, a modified car could be faster with a stock MT, vs an auto with the same HP will need an upgraded trans setup. High whp usually means faster, but it depends on how you're spending your money. Upgrade trans and keep lower whp for same acceleration in lower speeds or upgrade engine and such and keep trans stock and be capable of faster acceleration on lower and higher speeds. I choose MT.
Automatically Is it economical in fuel consumption?
Manual for life! It doesn’t matter if auto is faster, there will always be someone faster, so you might as well have the enjoyment and connection with your car with 3 pedals and a stick.
