I don't usually rag on other companies, but this is an exception and there's no excuse for it. I'd make it known in the write-up that the previous company bypassed the safety.
I mentioned it for sure
What are the chances that the person who did all that managery is watching this video……..
🙏
Great Video. Thank you for sharing. May I ask, what is the same and different between roll out switch and high limit switch ?
Roll out switches are typically manual reset so they have a little button you need to push if it trips otherwise it will not close again by itself. High limits on the other hand tend to be automatic reset because they can be tripped by dirty filters, low airflow, etc but they will automatically reset and the unit will light back up. They should not trip during normal operation with clean filters, so if a unit is cycling on limit (running until it hits high limit then shuts off then lights up when limit recloses) there is usually a problem to fix somewhere.
Replace the whole unit. it can't be trusted after that.
Agreed! This unit has already been replaced. Thanks for watching!
Good lord....safeties is 100% non negotiable for bypassing....i dont care how cold it is...never gonna happen....that is a disaster waiting to happen.....nice job Ryan
Thanks Jason, thanks for watching man!
That unit has been hacked in every bad way, lucky the building didnt burn down. Total hackery.
Agree 100%
I think it might be necessary to have the owner pull the service history on this unit. The company that performed this “work” needs to be held accountable for it. Some city inspector’s office should be notified if appropriate. That company should be fined and told that further violations will cause them to lose their business license.
This is really a dangerous situation.
Extremely dangerous, totally agree 👍
Who in the heck would bypass a safety. Then walk away and say "it will be alright", No excuse
👍
Might want to see if a wiring harness is available. If not, I'd say they need to replace it. I mean blower motor, possible heat exchanger failure, wiring damage and limits, that's half the unit.
Yeah, I submitted my report and will see what happens.
Good thing you got video. Something tells me that there will be more to this. Like who worked on it previously.
I think so too, thanks for watching
This customer probably didn't call a different company today...
I've never seen an upside down limit switch before 😂 barking mad ! Immediately dangerous.
Definitely 👍
Good job Ryan, need to issue a BOLO for the Hack installer and the vandal who worked on those units.
👍
Dang. That was dangerous
Yes
Hmmm... cooked motor, possible comprmised exchanger, comprimised wiring, comprimised condensate pan...... The entire thing baked itself..
If that was my unit it would be getting replaced and i would be going after whoever jumped the limit for replacement value plus.
👍
What’s your opinion on the plastic pulleys on VFDs? Have been bypassing vfds due to unavailability and after bypassing we change the pulleys to steel since bypassing gives to much torque on startup and blows them apart. All this nonsense just to meet efficiency standards. Carrier going downhill
Not a fan of the plastic pulleys either
You could have cooked Thanksgiving dinner in that oven, wow everything needs reworked ,I’m surprised that drain pan didn’t melt away, I say new unit is an excellent option.
🍗
Some tech, somewhere has some explaining to do!
👍
Please change all those wires. If they got that hot and not yet short, the plastics get very brital and isolation on "still good" wires will flake off soon.
We quoted a new wiring harness
i would replace the wire, that insulation is compromised, the way it was creaking and cracking it exceeded its rating, 90C is 194F and a new insulation pad.
I agree, I’ve filled out my report and also have the video. Appreciate the input, thanks!🙏
That’s crazy, I had one job once we came behind the people that installed it, the one 3T RTU had a main limit bypass with a lil popper 😅. One other 10T had a hole in the condenser from a screw when they put on the hail guards. And they left the manual on top of the burners so when it fired it burned all of the wiring in that compartment
We always drill holes on the outside of the economizer, with no reason to run the wires like that. Much less bypassing limits
Yep
That’s just the new wireless limit switch
😆
Surprised if any of the wires in the blower area are good insulation wise
Probably not, they were hard and brittle.
Wow! I do not know how anyone could think it was a good idea to bypass a limit or any other safety.
Scary that there are people out there that do stuff like this.
Yep 👍
Bring back the melted filters to your shop and show your guys
👍
Thats why you dont bypass safeties...
Exactly 👍
Omg this was a close call! 😮 this was a good one! No air flow and no limit means it's an oven 😂
Thanks for watching!
Wow. Can’t believe people sometimes 🤦🏼♀️
👍
Need to replace the unit
👍
Great job Ryan. You should never bypass any safety device unless for testing purposes. Leaving it bypassed leaves you with a whole hell of hurt. Safety is paramount and if it works is secondary.
👍
I wonder if the whole unit needs to be condemned and replaced
i know i would as it would be cheaper to replace than sit there and rewire and replace 90%of the unit
👍
Good find! Last guy out has got some splaining to do.
Thanks for watching pat
Good one Ryan
Thanks Greg
Hi sir I am AC technician I need job u r have job i have experience 15 Saudi Arabia package unit your career train
I think it got hot
Me too, this unit has since been replaced
What a find !
👍
Wowser….😳😳😳🔥
👍
121 thumbs uP
👍
Excellent. Interesting.
Many thanks!
Those machines have fixed orifices. Pick yourself up a mini Guage so your not bringing up a whole hose.
These units have txv’s
Great job Ryan you are so thorough
I appreciate that!
Looks like what we call Chuck in a Truck was there. Is was a service tech that trained when I started would call them. Plus filter change in December and did not cut the heat off. SMH . Good luck with that unit.
👍
Nice work man. Good video👍🏻 You ever see anything like that before? I never have.
I have not, thanks for watching
Good stuff Ryan. Just dealt with a unit that caught fire because someone had bypassed safeties all I had to do was go take pictures, total loss.
👍
Where u located?
2:00 no wires at the limit ?
Yes someone bypassed it
I would be surprised ,if you do not have that limit in your van.
Me too
Are group will do the job and take off and not do the job the right way
👍
That ac you looked at with the plug pulled looked like a single circut system
Replace the unit!!!!!!!!!
We did
Them Raheem is much better
👍
Owes inspect the job
👍
What did it smell like? 😆
😂
Nice work Ryan.
Thanks!
Start for fire burning smell on the wires check in see if there all connected you can’t not let the customer turn on the unit for safety reasons
👍
one question Why didnt the duct smoke shut down the ac?
well if the disabled safety is any indication i'd have to assume either bypassed or not equipped also that fire department needs to go back to training as it took them 3 times of coming out to shut the unit down
It may have, the alarm company and fire department were both there before me and it was shut off by the time I showed up.
That return smoke detector sampling tube is backwards.
that is crazy!
Thanks for watching
Nice vid ... Thx
Thanks Eddy!
i feel patronized
?
