Not entirely true, he said he can't listen to it. "not because of the music but because of what it represents to my life. It was a very complicated time."
Devin completely took over the show, so he had to go. It’s so obvious from the lyrics and the general madness of the album. It all all SCREAMS Devin, literally. I mean Steve barely had real songs before or after this album. He should have thanked Devin on his knees, because the rest of his catalogue completely forgettable. Nice wank, don’t get me wrong, but forgettable.
Steve Vai...the Guitar-god. When this song was released with Devin on vocals, it blew me away. I´ve been singing this song constantly in my head (and sometimes out loud) since it was released. I don´t know why this tune has made such an inpact on me....but it has. I love this tune!!

Mes salutations bien respectueuses Mr VAI. Merci beaucoup Maestro. Bien à vous.
Takes me back to driving around with this album in the cassette player.. makes me think of clubs , pubs, summers in the beer garden and mostly of lost friends..
Looking back on this, I think a really great thing is that even though Devin Townsend is someone who has had personal struggles, since the time of this album he has produced a large amount of absolutely incredible music. I think he is someone who really fulfilled his potential, and more to come!
I was already a hardcore Vai fan when this album came out., and also a fan of Bozzio. Little did I realize that my favorite part of the album would be from a singer I've never heard of before. Devin just has those pipes of gold. This particular song stood out for me as a potential hit. The chorus is catchy as hell.
Should have been a hit, in my opinion. I sort of assume that this album didn't go anywhere because Steve didn't fit into the "grunge" mold, since he'd been active in genres that were being suppressed on the radio (hair metal, etc), at the time. Still love it, as it was my introduction to Devin.
fasteddie777666 what i mean that Devin formed Strapping Young Lad....a death metal band ...he is from British Columbia and Jed and Byron are from there....Gene Hogland is from Texas and they formed SYL....ONE OF THE BEST HEAVY METAL BANDS FROM THE MIGHTY CANADA
Such a great song and album. I remember hearing that first pre-chorus vocal for the first time and thinking how unique and powerful the singer's voice was. Man, I didn't know the half of it!
"Rescue Me or Bury Me" gives me chills. I think it was the first time I heard Steve sing. That one song encapsulates so many signature techniques and tones. In 3 seconds of the solo you instantly recognize Vai's playing.

Love that this video has over 0ne Million views and climbing. My God I saw these guys live and when this Album came out, it saved me when I was suffering depression and anxiety. LOVE YOU STEVE VAI THANK YOU SIR
Both Steve and Devin happen to be the two best live frontmen I ever saw in concert.

Steve Vai has been known to me all his life, I don't listen to him in any way, but I really respect him as an artist. I saw this song on TV and it got me, it's really beautiful and it will be with me forever.
Before the Spotify- and Shazam-era there was a chance you’d listen to a song a few times, love it, but not hear it for years afterwards. Well, if this isn’t one of those songs! It had been literally *years* without hearing it, and within a few notes, I knew it was *that* song. What a feeling. And what’s even better? To my shame, I’ve not heard any of the vocalist’s other work. Would love to write more, but gotta listen to Devin. He’s an absolutely incredible vocalist. X
this is by far the best album Steves ever done.. he had a band of strong personalities which was probably challenging ego wise but it made for incredible music..
...SONG OF THE DAY!!!
I remember seeing an interview on Headbangers Ball with Devin and Steve Vai where they spoke about recording this video backwards. Have always loved the song and have been privileged to see Devin live. Awesome! This man knows how to entertain!
A 21 year old Devin Townsend. Hell of a lot has changed even just 10 years after Sex & Religion, never mind in 2016. From Sex & Religion to Transcendence.
G3 Australia. Anytime soon please! The pleasure ive had growing up with Steve and Joe. The amount of times i watched this music video when i discovered this song. God dammm
A perfect song and record, my favourite Vai record of all time in fact. Vai at his peek with Devin Townsend in his beginnings with Bozzio on drums...explosive stuff.
The first time I listened to this song from the album Sex and religion I was in a record store and this track sounded like music from another planet.....well, that day I did not have the money to purchase the record but weeks later, I bought the tape during a travel to London.
I remember I was 19 and in love with this amazing girl from Ukraine, and this song resonated so much with the much younger me! Steve and Devin were amazing together!
When I heard this song on the radio in the early '90s, I thought it was Kip Winger on vocals. Never did I imagine the singer would later get more acclaim as the frontman of Strapping Young Lad.
I will never get tired of Devins voice! So much character!
Right? I think of him as the Canadian Mike Patton. Love Devon...and Patton, for what it's worth.
2021, still one of the most beautiful and underrated songs ever!
Damn right!I always loved this song..there is a rare feeling around it..
You're right :)
Yes
so true, man!
2022 nothing changed
Devin may not have loved the material, but still gave a performance worthy of the gods. The power of this song, and the album, is unreal.
Such a rocking material indeed❤
Damn I didn't know he wasn't a fan of the material...
Not entirely true, he said he can't listen to it.
"not because of the music but because of what it represents to my life. It was a very complicated time."
@@ElectroPanPipes Yeah he did say that, looking back, but that's not what he said of how he felt at the time.
@@ElectroPanPipeswhat happened
I know Steve Vai is amazing but this is the album that introduced me to Devin Townsend who is equally amazing.
me too
Wow. I didn't recognize him. Love his music
Me too
And just as good a guitar player as Vai
Devin completely took over the show, so he had to go. It’s so obvious from the lyrics and the general madness of the album. It all all SCREAMS Devin, literally. Devin has come such a long way from his days with Steve Vai. Both artists are fantastic and worthy of respect.
Steve Vai...the Guitar-god. When this song was released with Devin on vocals, it blew me away. I´ve been singing this song constantly in my head (and sometimes out loud) since it was released. I don´t know why this tune has made such an inpact on me....but it has. I love this tune!!
The only tune i sing from that album although album is very good...
It just stuck in my head and almost 30 years later i still remember melody.
This is what differs Vai and Malmsteen.
Mr. Vai has a lot more colorful sense of music.
Same here and OMG Steve is smmmooookin' hot, still is!
7 years later and I get it.
I saw the Sex and Religion tour in St. Louis
Showed up a Vai fan, left a giant Devin fan.
Going to see Dream Theater and Devin Townsend in Florida in June ....
God, I bought this CD in 1993 and I always loved this song. Never saw the video until now. Great singer! He looks so angry!
Check out his solo stuff! It's pretty amazing.
Check out his band strapping young lad. He is very angry there haha
+KRAZEEIZATION He is Devin Townsend.
+KRAZEEIZATIONthe guy is just passionate and singing his freaking heart out!
+KRAZEEIZATION Haha :D me too..
Devin and Steve. Two artists creating actual art.
There's absolutely nothing not to love about young Dev and rasta Steve!

Devin is one free dude!
I'm literally watching this and every other sex and religion song from your video I watched like a half an hour ago haha.
I was already a hardcore Vai fan when this album came out., and also a fan of Bozzio. Little did I realize that my favorite part of the album would be from a singer I've never heard of before. Devin just has those pipes of gold.

Damn what a song. Amazing vocals
Would love to see more consistent Dev and Steve collabs. Steve’s solo on Devin’s ‘Triumph’ is astonishing

the only album of VAI, actually. Well, at the time some tracks got good rotation on radios and even MTV
Because Devin Townsend

the kind of song that stuck in your head and can't get out .
Que voz tem o Devin ! Incrível !
I love Steve....I really REALLY do. But Devin is God.

So my reality will have to come to me in my dreams
I know that you belong to me every night

What I do in my dreams with you
I love the way you come to me every night
My fantasies are real and they never lie
If you only knew
What I do in my dreams with you yeah
It isn't right

The world can make you cynical
With all its love and pain
But I don't have to carry
The weight of the world

Let me take you on an endless journey
We touch
And the softest kiss explodes with lust
It's real
And you can't deny the heat you feel
And if I die before I wake baby that's all right
(Chorus)
People don't do this anymore

I think that Vai learnt that solo backwards - note-perfect, of course! - just for the sake of 5 seconds of music video deserves more recognition guys
barely note-perfect, the syncing is terrible
RIP TM Stevens
Steve sei il mio chitarrista preferito!
My first time experiencing Mr Townsend. I wonder if Steve Vai knew he was employing a young kid who would turn out to be an even crazier genius that he was...
Something deep inside me thinks that he knew it.
I think he knew too and that's why he put up with Devin's behaviour throughout
He’s also a awesome guitarist to , Steve also knew that as well
He did. Look up some interviews.
crazy attracts crazy man, same with geniuses... like these two

yep. it's a great solo because it is about the song, not the guitarrist
So true goddamit, so true.

"In my dreams with you" was a wet dreams anthem of my teenage. That ref is so relieving.

One of the most very beautiful songs I ever heard
A 21 year old Devin Townsend. Hell of a lot has changed even just 10 years after Sex & Religion, never mind in 2016.
From Sex & Religion to Transcendence.
It's crazy how little his voice has changed over thirty years.
Love this guy's voice, it's right on par with John Corabi (think Motley Crue '94). Love that type of voice.
one of the most underrated albums of the 90s
it was a really bad album but it had this song.
Townsend + Vai = The Best of The Best!!! 😎
Insane voice & amazing guitar
OMG !!! I I love this song, I this is the masterpiece 90's ballads era, to me...you always be amazing when you create ballads steve !!!...

Iv never heard this song before. I wish I could go back to that….
The drummer is my hero.
He’s video talent. The actual drummer was a session guy called Terry Bozzio
