Sidney Poitier was my hero when I was in my early 20s because of how he acted and taught the world in the movie, "To Sir With Love" how to survive in this world which he taught his students in that movie. That's literally why they say to save applause for the end. It also kind of exposes who the stupidest people in the room are because if they clap immediately after hearing that, yikes.

Nesmith was so underrated by the general public. Songwriter (wrote "Different Drum" for the Stone Poneys, which featured Linda Rondstadt). Music video pioneer ("Rio" is reported to be the first music video. Created the concept of the music video channel with "PopClips", the inspiration for MTV). Won the first music video Grammy (for "Elephant Parts"). Won an Emmy for The Monkees TV series. Had his own TV show ("Television Parts" for NBC). He could write, produce, act, sing, run a business (Pacific Arts) and was a more than capable musician. A quiet talent.

Ed Asner, Gavin Macleod and Betty White, all of the MTM show, died in the same year, last year, and Charlie Robinson and Markie Post, of Night Court, died within a couple of weeks of each other, last year. it had to be so hard for Jean Smart, winning an award and having to see her husband in the Memoriam as well.

@@divatalk9011 I think SAG does it from the last award date to the next award date, rather than a full calendar year. Cloris was recognized in last years ceremony since she died in January 2021, before the last awards took place. Bette was in this one since she died in late December 2021, nearly January 2022, before this years awards.

This is how they should handle the “In Memoriam” segments for all of the awards shows instead of just showing still shots of the people.
