I have a 2018 with the RAM Box and wanted to look into tonneau covers. I don't do as much "Truck" stuff with mine which some of my buddies gave me a hard time about getting one in the first place. I simply said "Look at it! Black crew cab with lots of chrome and the cool looking Ram Boxes! It's the best looking thing on the road and I am in love..." but I digress. I think the retractable one looks the best. Now just have to save up and get it! Thank you for the great video!
I watch a lot of truck videos and i have to say, your videos are great. You speak well. You give worthy advice. Your delivery is always calm and easy, plus you're informative.. i guess what im trying to say is , thank you for Not being an idiot. Keep up the good work.
So I just traded for a 2020 Ram 1500 withh the rambox's and a multi-function tailgate and one thing I noticed, even in your video is the gaps at the tailgate top towards both sides. Mine has the oem tri-fold cover but it doesn't cover those gaps so rain gets in through there. I'm still researching to see if anyone has come up with a fix for this.
i like the roll out because it doesnt block the view, ive had it stretched over stuff in the bed, let half open (cant go 80mph), but still no issues.......its starting to wear out some. but has served me very well!
Like you I have had them all through the years. Top pick would be the Rol n lock. The worst was the tri folds. I lost so much access space to the 8 foot bed. Any dirt, debris excess straw from bales, loose tools. Would wind up underneath that front panel where you could not reach it without undoing the whole thing. I hated it so much I wound up just giving it away. The truck had a bed rug in it. Which stopped a lot of the sliding problems. And I think that you will find it will stop a lot of your dust problems. As long as you get the extra tailgate pieces. This closes the gap between the tailgate and bed.
I’ve had the Retrax on mine for 2 years and I cannot be happier. It is holding up like a champ. I believe the bearings are sealed. Also not a lot of water gets in there, but I did filled the big gap on the tailgate end with a heavy foam pad. If you read this and are curious, I can send you pics of what I did. I am sure you will appreciate it.
Thanks for sharing your review. I have a 20 with ram boxes but the manufacturer didn't ship my order cover upon shipping. So I've been looking around for one.
Hey Thomas. I would absolutely buy another Ram Limited. It’s holding up so well, I’ve got no reason not to. I have a feeling I will always have a Ram truck in the driveway. 10+ years straight so far.
I don’t know if you answered this already, but the link you give for the tuxedo only gives the option for W/O rambox. Will it in-fact work on my truck with the ram box?
Would a 4x8 sheet fit in the back with the 3rd, sliding option. Im a roofer & carry lots of OSB to jobs in my 16 Rebel. It’s fits in perfectly now but it looks like you lose a few inches.
Hi Idk if you already found out. But I have the Retrax on a 2020. It does fit but you have to leave the tailgate down. The rails do get in the way of ply wood sheets. and you can not close the tailgate.
Our company has had 3 different hard roll covers. We have had Roll N Locks. Love them. they were (are) the best built, longest lasting units we have ever had. But we didn't like the tail gate lock rail. Made it a pain to slide items on/off our beds. May be different now since just about every truck has a locking tailgate. Then we went to Retrax. The biggest pieces of shit ever designed for a truck bed cover. We had 5 trucks that were with in 1 year having slat separation issues. Retrax warranted 2 of them. One of the warranted units did the same thing in 6 months. Then we went with Pace Arrow. Much better quality than Retrax.
Hello, please, I have a headache from the Retrax Pro MX. I can't install it. I would like to ask, did you remove the plastic ends from the black rail that was mounted on the silver rail? When I have the end caps on the black rail, I can't close the door. Thanks
Hi Idk if you already found out. But I have the Retrax on a 2020. It does fit but you have to leave the tailgate down. The rails do get in the way of ply wood sheets. and you can not close the tailgate.
I actually meant to mention in the video that I liked the way the Retrax had integrated gaskets in the side rails, Bc they didn’t stick out and the didn’t require an extra step for install. Do you know which model number your cover is? Curious if they are the same.
@@MrJustinWheeler unfortunately I do not know, I bought the truck 2 weeks ago and the previous owner had it installed, it’s a 2019 so I’d assume that’s when he got it. I emailed Retrax and they confirmed that with the cover the ram boxes will not open all the way.
I went without a cover for years. Once I got a soft roll top, I’ll never not have one. For $250 bucks I can replace it ever 5 yrs if needed. But so far my gator cover is holding up really well. I’d say 95% water proof in Florida which is saying something… totally rolls out of the way when not needed. The velcro really isnt that big a deal. Can be tightened easily like he said if it starts to stretch. A lot of ppl just dont bother. It’s one of those things that’s designed to be more practical than pretty anyway. Mainly keeps thieving eyes off your stuff - but that’s often the main thing. Dont give people a reason to look in there and want to jack your stuff. But I find privacy and water resistance to be big big plusses.
@@MrJustinWheeler Its worked great so far, no real issues. It's almost completely flat. The seals against the ram boxes have very little interference, no cracking or bulges. Only issue I had was after a winter wash one of the slam locks froze open, but later thawed and worked fine. The cover does need to be opened slightly every time you use the tailgate because you can damage the gate seat over time. Just something to get used to, not really a big deal. I was also able to get an extended warranty for 7 years for only $20 extra at time of purchase. So pretty good value as a whole. I think the matte finish looks great, compliments the ram box black plastics.
*One video, three very different tonneau covers! Which type do you have on your truck?*

when the trifold is in the upright position can you still see out of the rear view mirror camera?

I would love to see your set up!

Lots of good options out there. Hope this helps you narrow one down. Thanks for watching!
serious question i went from a 2019 ram rebel due to rear end collison to a 2022 limited would you buy another ram limited again? or any ram product

The option for RamBox is there (just double checked). Are you sure you’re selecting the right bed length?

Ordered an extant xceed for a 2022 ram with ram boxes and split tail gait. Fingers crossed.
How are you liking the split tailgate. Useful day to day?
Don’t know yet, truck should be here in 10-20 days🙂 It was a debated feature but I can definitely see value in not having to reach over the tailgate.

Just purchased a 22 with the Ram boxes Justin...have the factory cover and have no intention of replacing it since it's not bad at all👍
You’re on your 3rd 5th Gen? That’s impressive. Hope you enjoy the RamBoxes as much as I do!
@@MrJustinWheeler can you run thru the drive thru car wash with the cover
@@leonardoarizola251 yes sir! Do it all the time.
Is there a Ram box cover that fits without adding rials so I can still slide in a 4x8 sheet of plywood and close the tailgate ? Thanks in advance

My Retrax MX pro has serious gasket lips on the sides, which only allows me to open the ram boxes 60-70%. Wonder why yours is just fine?

How has it been with a gooseneck so far? I have the same turnover ball but I’ve been scared to put a cover on.
I assume you cannot use these covers with the ladder rack systems that go on the rails?

Well said, I agree with all of it 👍
The Truxedo one you listed in the description doesn’t have the Rambox as an option it only said without
Just checked. They’re definitely still available. 5 1/2 foot bed, new body style (6 lug), w/RamBox
@@TruckCentralmy bad you’re right. I’m looking for one for the 6’4 that’s my issue. Hard to find any affordable options
I have the same question. Did you install the Truxedo made for RAM without RAmboxes?
2020 with ram boxes, truxedo sentry CT on mine. Super low profile, rolls up nice, pops off easy if I need the extra couple inches at the cab.
I haven't used the Sentry model yet. Is it holding up pretty well?

out of these three, which one do you like the most?
Can the Ram bed divider still be used?
hi , if you are talking about the folding one. Yes. I've used one with the Retrax
It would be really cool if you could redo this video in better lighting. Pull the truck out in the sunlight, perhaps…
You being an American you should know better the name Dodge was dropped in 2009 Just call it by the correct name RAM.
Peugeot?
