    SONG: I'm in the Mood for Love
    ARTIST: Julie London
    ALBUM: Julie Is Her Name (1955)
    WRITERS: Music by Jimmy McHugh / Lyrics by Dorothy Fields (1935)
    INSTRUMENTS:
    · ELECTRIC ARCHTOP GUITAR: Barney Kessel
    · UPRIGHT/DOUBLE BASS: Ray Leatherwood
    Since 1935, this Jazz standard has been recorded by nearly every big Jazz musician. It was introduced in the 1935 musical film “Every Night at Eight”, sung by Frances Langford, and it later became a hit with trumpeter and singer Louis Armstrong (see video below). This Julie London recording features yet another one of Barney Kessel's ingenious Jazz-guitar arrangements, packed with lush chords and voice-leading movements, that creates a rich backdrop from no more than a duo accompaniment. Enjoy!

    This was posted on the exact day I lost her for good. Somehow I knew, even then, I’d never get over it.

    Hi thank you so much for your work in transcribing this! What fingering would you use for the D7(b9,#9) chord in the bridge?

      That's a really good question! There are two tricks to this:
      - The low notes, *a* and *d* (5th fret on the E- and A-string), are both fretted by the middle finger. (same trick in bar 35)
      - Later, the high note, *e-flat* (4th fret on the B-string), is fretted by the index finger doing a little bar across the 4th fret.

    Hey thanks a lot! Could you tell me what key this transcription is in?

    • @PlayLikeTheGreatscom
      @PlayLikeTheGreatscom  3 года назад +1

      - in the key of _F Major_ as that one flat notated at the beginning of each line :) However, as this is a Jazz composition, it constantly strays away from this central key, into neighboring keys.
