I was such a massive fan of GoT until that last season, and when I saw your Pitch Meeting it perfectly encapsulated why I hated it. I share the Pitch Meeting to anyone who wonders why I hated the ending so much. Thank you again for your service!
Season 7 was basically just as bad. I had the fortune (or misfortune) of basically binging the whole show in a few weeks and was also somewhat familiar with the books. After they stopped being a faithful adaptation, which happened somewhere through season 4, the quality started declining. Season 6 was solid despite that but 5 and especially 7 & 8 sucked ass.
GoT is still good, and even the last couple of seasons could have been good if executed better. D&D executed it in a different way and manner of speaking.
I sent this to any and everyone. And shared it multiple time. Ryan's pitch meeting was the PERFECT response to the dreck Dumb & Dumber tried to feed us. From cultural phenomenon to forgettable trash in 6 episodes. Understanding it slid in quality after season 5 we were still willing to forgive if it finished well. What an absolute waste.
We had main characters die left and right in earlier seasons, then during the main battle only Jorah, Theon, and Lyanna dies. Why didn't Brienne and Tormund die? Their story was over at that point.
One of my smartest friends really liked it. He's extremely critical of other shows and movies for their illogical character behaviors and plot inconsistencies. I was baffled when he told me he liked the final season. Personally, I think it went downhill well before Season 8.
Everything went downhill the last few seasons (let's rape Sansa again, let's gather the main characters to go get a zombie, etc was all before season 8), so for me it was more of a "meh, expected".
It's wild to think that the more time passes the more people will forget that so much of what producer guy is saying was actually what D&D were told. They could've had all the time and money they wanted but they turned it down because they were already thinking about their next series. It became something like karmic payback that the next series never happened.
yup and now they are basically begging people to watch their new Netflix show which ironically is also based on books it does look decent but i can't bring myself to support those morons
@@MaxHohenstaufen The two moronic showtunners of GoT. They single-handedly ruined the entire final season because they wouldn't let anyone else write/run/make descisions except themselves, and they just wanted to end it as fast as possible. That is why we got what we got for an ending. A rushed, half-assed mess of disjointed action sets and absolutely abysmal dialogue. When the season absolutely tanked and everyone hated it they lost the chance to direct their upcoming Star Wars project, which was the entire reason that they rushed GoT season 8 inbthe first place. So, basically, everybody lost. Courtesy of David Benioff and Dan Weiss.
@@dissuede6949 Oh, thanks for explaining. Well, at least it looks like there was some poetic justice in the end, they denied people of a proper ending to their beloved series, but were denied what they wanted to direct as a result.

In the interview he did with Jabby, that's exactly what he said about making it. And I'd say that that's exactly why it was so popular, cuz it was equally as therapeutic for everyone else lol We all needed it! hahaha
Only Ryan is capable of reigniting my GoT Season 8 anger, then soothing it in the most wholesome, funny way possible 😄 Thanks for your many hours of hard work producing the pitch meetings Ryan 👏👏👏

GoT season 8 pitch meeting is what got me to pitch meeting and I’ve been hooked ever since. For me, it was the repeated joke of the producer trying to get the writer to agree to more episodes and the writer both cursing the fact that there weren’t enough episodes to tell the story, while staunching resisting attempts to add more. Brilliant :)
This one has a special place for me as it was the first Pitch Meeting I ever saw… it was soooooo much better than GoT season 8. I shared it with everyone I knew and have now seen every pitch meeting.
Same here! I came across this one accidentally and enjoyed it so much that I spent the next six or seven days binge watching 250+ Pitch Meetings 😅 it was super easy tho, barely an inconvenience!
The first one I saw was for Squid Games after a local radio host mentioned it being funny on air. I was instantly hooked, watched everything Ryan's ever made, and am now a forever fan. He's a comedic genius. Have you watched his First Guy series? Or the videos about how things got their names? They're wonderful
This was the first Pitch Meeting I ever saw, and the week following, I watched every single other pitch meeting that was on the channel. I'm so glad you didn't stop making them!! So many years later and they're still just as brilliant.
This was the pitch meeting that got me hooked! Just amazing on so many levels - taking actual quotes from the producers ("She forgot"). I still can't believe Ryan missed the Arya saying 'I know a killer when I see one" referring to Dany to Jon.... as she talks to him in the smoldering ruin of Kings Landing with non-combats single handily murdered by Dany the thousands.
Your Pitch Meetings are not only extremely funny, they are also great reviews. In 5 minutes you show every weak plotpoint in every movie, even movies that are considered masterpieces, Your concept seems so simple, but it is so brilliant, and as usual with content-creation it probably takes up a lot of your time, so thank you for the effort and the fun.
And it's just a reflection of reality, too, because HBO essentially offered Dumb and Dumber *all the money* to continue GoT for as long as they needed!
"It's a very forgettable horse" 😅 Thanks for all the videos Ryan! Looking forward to many more. They're usually my first port of call after watching a movie. Seeing the sun is overrated!
It's the first one I ever saw. I was looking for a reviewer to hate season 8 as much as me and found this. I've seen all of them, now. Several more than once.

I never got into Game of Thrones, but I absolutely loved how everyone everywhere was talking about it. When it was airing, when it was between seasons, it was regular. It's fun seeing so many people bonding over a common thing. And then there was an explosion of how everyone hated the final season followed by no one talking about Game of Thrones. I'm still shocked by how that transition felt.
@10:38 Personally part of the reason I liked the GoT Season 8 pitch meeting *was the fact that it was aimed at the showrunners. It was cathartic to see even this this chaotic good venue bashing their poor decisions
I like the personal take on this at the end and yea, the Pitch Meeting was definitely a turning point. It was so good I just watched it last night and rewatched it here again. They are pretty much perfectly done to portray what people are thinking into a director - publisher kind of view, like if the audience thinks something was cheaply done, they will just blatantly say they don't care. And it's usually really spot on while adding a bunch of top notch humor on top of it, I've binged a lot of them and have been laughing quite a few times over the jokes/perfect timing/editing of them. Well done and I hope that you keep going with it! Edit: Omg I want to see Ryan Reynolds so badly and I hope you 2 can come up with some hilarious breaking of the usual theme, like him as publisher talking as producer or something to just completely break how it usually is xD

Literally hit the nail on the head with every point, as usual. Ryan's videos should be required viewing for every writer, director and producer who comes up with an idea for a film or TV series. Season 8 will forever be viewed as the most epic failure of a series in television history.
I love these look backs. Taking a peek behind the veil is tight! Oh, and I try to work in "super easy, barely an inconvenience" into a conversation at least once a day. And when a stranger gets it, we're immediately best friends.

This is the first one I watched and didn't realise it was one of many. "Super Easy Barely An Inconvenience" fit so well. You seem to have effortlessly captured both the actual behind the scenes process and lampooned the show. Hoping you can do more of the former in future pitches
Asking what is the best film is arguably based on opinions and feelings while still based in good filmmaking and good writing. But generally even amongst fictional characters when they're asked what is the best movie ever the answer is Citizen Kane. I think you could tackle that one in a pitch meeting and touch on that best movie argument. New fan, I've been meaning to watch your videos for a long time. Thank you so much. I love your work!

It takes a special kind of negligence to turn an entire fan base into a unity of anger and rage against something.
46m people watched the finale. Only 1.8m signed the petition to remake the final (started mainly to insult Benioff and Weiss).
@@tessdurberville711 You genuinely believe all 46m are online and sign petitions? I hate the last season, I didnt sign the petition. But look at the critics rating, the audience rating. By every single measure the finale was a failure.
Its easy to call someone just a hater, but there is near unanimous consensus that they screwed the pooch in the last season.
“I really want this to be over” was basically the entire vibe of the final season of Game of Thrones
They should have ended it with a freeze frame after Drogon causes something to blow up, and the superimposed text: "Daenerys Targaryen, age 24, gave herself up to the authorities after the incident. She is now serving a life sentence."
Note: Bran the Broken died on the way back to his home planet
That's literally what happened, the show runners wanted to work on other stuff but didnt want to hand the reigns over to someone else to they just ended it as quick as possible. HBO even offered them more episodes and seasons and they turned it down.
20 episodes would have been perfect.
"Her nephew doesn't wanna sleep with her."
Always my favorite quote from this one.
If she was my auntie I'd make an exception 😉
That GOT season 8 pitch meeting was so spot-on accurate I think it was incredibly cathartic for a lot of disappointed fans.
The beginning of my years long healing journey, yes!
Accurate!
I kind of like how the undead can break out of massive stone crypts, but the one from the previous season couldn't get out of a wood box.
Good point.
Budget cuts at Winterfell that year. Plaster of Paris was quietly used in place of a hewn stone sarcophogus.
No, cuz these were STARK undead! Highly powerful! 😅
Yeah people saying that was dumb to hide in the crypt, but as far they knew the walkers couldn’t get throw a wooden box. And the last stark dead in the crypt was ned, 8 years ago probably just his head the was body cremated i think, so should be very weak, and before ned, lyanna? Around 18 years ago? Her still have a body?
@@0cidd0logic? In my dragon show?
I liked how for the GoT season 8 pitch meeting, he used actual quotes from the showrunners
This man really aged himself ~35 years for, like, three seconds of video. Truly a committed content creator.
No, he de-aged himself for the rest of the video. Remember he's been time traveling since the 90s.
(Now I think about it it doesn't actually matter what decade you begin time traveling because.. y'know.. time travel.. Whatever, he's old now because of time travel.)
Wait. Are you saying that's _not_ a cameo of his grandpa?
I thought that was just David Lynch?
Pretty sure that's Tim Allen as Santa.
Yeah. It’s so cool that he waited so long before starting his channel for a 3 second joke, even though he already recorded all these videos
Ryan put more thought into his Q&A workflow bit than Weiss & Benniof into season 8.
Sick burn ❤️🔥
True that
I mean they're called Dumb and Dumber for a reason.
GRRM spent more time on rewriting one chapter than those two did writing all of season 8.
I was such a massive fan of GoT until that last season, and when I saw your Pitch Meeting it perfectly encapsulated why I hated it. I share the Pitch Meeting to anyone who wonders why I hated the ending so much. Thank you again for your service!
So glad those clowns lost their star wars deal cause of it
Season 7 was basically just as bad.
R u dumb. Anyone who is a true thrones fan, knows why. Fool
That "being off screen" invincibility is still hilarious
So true
We had main characters die left and right in earlier seasons, then during the main battle only Jorah, Theon, and Lyanna dies. Why didn't Brienne and Tormund die? Their story was over at that point.
The amazing thing is there were supposedly at least 50% of fans who weren't disappointed. Unless it was 49% disappointed, 51% enraged.
Right lol there's no way 50% of fans liked it
One of my smartest friends really liked it. He's extremely critical of other shows and movies for their illogical character behaviors and plot inconsistencies. I was baffled when he told me he liked the final season. Personally, I think it went downhill well before Season 8.
I liked season 8
Everything went downhill the last few seasons (let's rape Sansa again, let's gather the main characters to go get a zombie, etc was all before season 8), so for me it was more of a "meh, expected".
Yeah I don’t believe that for a minute. It’s only 30% from audience on rotten tomatoes
It's wild to think that the more time passes the more people will forget that so much of what producer guy is saying was actually what D&D were told. They could've had all the time and money they wanted but they turned it down because they were already thinking about their next series. It became something like karmic payback that the next series never happened.
Well said
yup and now they are basically begging people to watch their new Netflix show which ironically is also based on books it does look decent but i can't bring myself to support those morons
Who's D&D and what would its next series be, if you don't mind me asking?
Seeing behind the scenes footage of Ryan not talking during the other Ryan's dialogue is TIGHT
This episode was how I got introduced to pitch meetings...I remember being frustrated with GOT ending so much I wanted to know what others felt about it too 😂
Yesss. Though for me it was "The Last Jedi" that brought me into the Pitch Meeting world.
And after being introduced to PM, going through the back catalogue was super easy, barely an inconvenience.
Same here! I thought the video was fantastic, and then jumped down the Pitch Meeting rabbit hole soon afterward! 😆

Me too lol! So something good came out of that final season.

That season 8 pitch meeting was so cathartic. I'm glad it exists

It’s the final stage of grief: Ryan helps us ACCEPT that this actually happened, and justifies our grief by summarizing how much of a departure and disappointment this season was from what we spent almost a decade loving.
"The Council Of Surviver Characters"
is now on my favorite lines of Ryan pitch meetings list!! 😂😂😂
Yeah, I burst out laughing at that. Sometimes a line is perfect. That was one of those times.
Ryan managed to touch on every major grievance the fans had in like 5 minutes and only a few days after the shows conclusion 😂
He didn't talk about how every major military expert is a complete pants on the head retard.
"You put the siege balistas IN FRONT OF THE WALL??"
"You... charged the cavalry without flanking it... IN COMPLETE DARKNESS? That's not how you use cavalries! "
Because Hollywood directors are so bad writers, they should hire military tacticians to look for flaws.
imagine how often he watched the final season in those few days to nail down all the juiciest most disappointing material.. blregh :D
This was the first experience with this sketch, and it was so absolutely amazingly accurate and on point I've never left. And after 7 seasons this was the most cathartic thing ever. Needed ALL OF IT! THANK YOU! SCREW YOU Dan & Dave!!!
Check out glidus channel he was my therapy after the show..
Imo it was the whole bring an undead and show cersei so she joins forces w us that took the show off the logical rails and it never gets back on track.

I can't imagine the Ryanverse brain bending that would ensue...
Four Ryans are tight
Yes!
Miss me w that
GoT season 8 pitch meeting is what got me to pitch meeting and I’ve been hooked ever since. For me, it was the repeated joke of the producer trying to get the writer to agree to more episodes and the writer both cursing the fact that there weren’t enough episodes to tell the story, while staunching resisting attempts to add more. Brilliant :)
Damn. I never knew Ryan went through so much trouble just to pick the right questions. Hat's off to you sir!
He's incredibly dedicated to his craft
You spelled rubble wrong

I love that Ryan always shows up for the thing I'm watching. It's so considerate of him
I joined the GOT party late too, just finished it and disappointed doesn't begin to describe how I feel
Has there ever been a pitch meeting you didn't want to do but you did it anyway? Maybe because of expectations from the audience?
Big fan of arson I see.
The Pitch Meeting Pitch Meeting
Love how the producer keeps offering more screentime but the writer really really don't want any of it
This was the pitch meeting that got me hooked!
Well, she's not wrong. ;-)
@@jamielondon6436 Ha ha indeed
She KINDA forgot.
I don't know why, but that word just makes it so much worse.
@@DrMcFly28 She remembered, then she kinda forgot, then she remembered again. Kinda.
That pitch meeting was so spot on. The story and the characters deserved more time
i love how in this one the producer tries his best to save the season instead of sabotaging it.
This remains my favorite Pitch Meeting. I'm so grateful it allowed me a very tiny respite from the crushing disappointment of Season 8.
It's the first one I ever saw. I was looking for a reviewer to hate season 8 as much as me and found this. I've seen all of them, now. Several more than once.

@@InvaderComgood idea. It’s absolute trash. Don’t let anyone convince you to watch it. I still try to watch the first seasons sometimes still but I can’t unsee that stupid ending and it hurts 😂
Yes!!!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
And it's just 'a brief list of some of the things wrong with it'.
This is the pitch meeting that introduced me to pitch meetings! I was on a bender watching every season 8 deconstruction video and I came across this and I must have watched it a dozen times over the years and it's great every time!

Hey Ryan! Thanks for the countless laughs! What's in your opinion the most underrated pitch meeting and why?
The GoT season 8 was my first pitch meeting! It was just what I needed at that moment of confusion and upset and I'm so glad to have found RG's content as a result of it!
Oh man, I'm so sad I didn't catch this video when it came out. I was one of the people that got hooked on Pitch Meetings because of this episode. I was never a fan of Game of Thrones in the first place but was fascinated by fast it went from one of the most popular and beloved series to absolutely ragged on by everyone I knew. Then I watched nearly every pitch meeting previously and since and the rest is history.

The defeated look of Producer Guy when Writer Guy turns down the offer of more seasons again is everything!
So glad you stuck around! It sounds like I discovered Pitch Meeting right when you were maybe gonna wrap it up, but I was going through the worst breakup of all time and having 200 of your videos to watch REALLY helped 😆😆
I've never watched Game of Thrones (definitely dodged a bullet with how the last season turned out), but this was the episode that introduced me to your style of videos. And I'm glad for that. You're one of the best RUclips comedians out there.
This was my first Pitch Meeting, ever. And I remember feeling "seen" so much, it translated everything I was feeling at that moment. And then I proceeded to watch every single one of them lol
10:18 I love in this bit how Ryan looks to his left whenever he mentions the screen writer and his right when he mentions the producer. Just where they would be standing if they would not both be him.
I would absolutely love seeing you do a collab with Ryan Reynolds. Also on you're other channel please do a First Guy to ever get a Tattoo!

*Question*: Have you ever felt any burnout or fatigue around creating Pitch Meetings?
You seem to have fun with them, but many also seem like they take a ton of work and I know a lot of people find this type of “repetitive” creative work very depleting after a few years.
P.S. Love your work and candidness with us. Thanks for all you do man!
“Why are you in such a rush to end this show?”
“Oh you see Disney offered us our own Star Wars trilogy after the success of Game or Thrones so we should end it now so we can you know go do that.”
“Have you considered handing Game of Thrones off to someone else?”
“No.”
“But why?”
“Cause it looks better on IMDV if we’re the sole producers of the most successful TV show of all time.”
“But have you considered that if you rush the ending here and there’s backlash from the fans that could blow up in your face?”
“Look sir I’m going to need you to get all the way off my back about my short sighted plan to bite the hand which feeds me.”
“Okay let me get off of that for ya.”
“Besides I got this Disney deal in the bag! You know Disney they never cancel Star Wars projects.”

Literally hit the nail on the head with every point, as usual. Ryan's videos should be required viewing for every writer, director and producer who comes up with an idea for a film or TV series. Season 8 will forever be viewed as the most epic failure of a series in television history.
Seriously, these videos need to be in the syllabi of every film & TV studies degree!
Hi, I'm from the future. We have a Megamind TV show now.
