My husband and I are not Japanese and neither one of us have ever visited Japan. However, it was your show that made us fall in love with Japanese cooking. Our journey in Japanese cooking has made us feel closer to Japan--as if it were our own country. Therefore, it hurts my family deeply to know that Japan and it's people are suffering. We want you to know that we support Japan 110% and are giving back to the country that gave so much to my family and myself. Thank you for inspiring me...

I just tried making this for the first time, the natto makes the flavor and texture absolutely wonderful. It's a really delicious soup, I think maybe it's a good way to eat natto if you've never tried it before.

I LOVE natto!! First time I ate it, I could barely finish it and had to throw it away. It was that bad. But a couple of months later, I suddenly had a random craving for it when I saw my then Japanese roommate eating it for breakfast. I went to buy some and since then, I've been eating it at least 2 times per week as a breakfast or a snack. =) Natto + rice + nori sheets = Heaven. I'll have to try this soup out; thanks!

Ladling out the foam will help to remove any unwanted flavor :) On the other hand, some people think the foam is a part of the flavor and they don't remove it. I think it is your call :)

I have donated and will continue to do so in months to come. I lived in Nagoya for 1 year & received a govermental grant to study Japanese. The least I can do is return the favor.

After such events unfolded in Japan, it is always a great to see a familiar face from Japan still doing what they do best in order to bring smiles and cooking tips to the audience. I, too, have donated to Japan's cause to both Redcross and world vision. It feels great helping one another and I pray and think of Japan daily!! Let's rally for this cause everyone!!

I have been watching this show for a VARY long time and it always makes my day 1000 X better when I see a new CWD video.
I have dreamed about going to Japan to study food since I was 10 (22 now) and I even went to chef school a few years ago, and when I was thinking about giving up (money issues) I found this show and it motivated me to get in gear and I finished, now I just need to figure out how to get the money to move there lol.

I'm relieved that everyone of Cooking With Dog is okay! I sincerly, and fervently, hope that Japan is able to make a successful recovery from this truly awful disaster.
I'm also really pleased with this recipe that uses Natto in a way that isn't just straight natto+rice, since it is such a uniquely Japanese flavor that is sometimes difficult to get acclimated to! Thank you so much for all your hard work!

I remember the first time I had natto and absolutely hated it. This is pretty typical for most American's since the taste and smell are so strong. However, after living with my host family and eating natto daily (by choice)I have come to love it!
I think a big thing about natto is that it actually compliments a lot of different foods, such as kimchi, okra and, I now discover, soups!
I am definitely going to try this one.
