      @@bs_shifty_4207 How's yours? How's the M.2 slots i read that both the GPU and 5th generation M.2 slots both share PCIE lanes so if you use a 5th-generation SSD in the M.2 SSD_1 it will take half your PCIE lanes from 16 down to 8. How many M.2 slots are good before i spend to get this board i plan on getting 2 4tb M.2 SSD's and 1 8tb M.2 SSD for all of my 3d software files

    The "only problem" with a deluxe board like this is you could buy four $250 level boards over the course of the next decade and probably be farther ahead. It's expensive for the same reason a Jaguar is expensive.

    • @TemplarKnight1177
      @TemplarKnight1177 2 года назад +1

      This one is very very expensive indeed. But add 90% to what this board costs, and you can buy the "Glacial" edition of the same board.... Nearly twice as expensive. The only diff I'm aware of, is the Glacial has water cooling.

    This LGA1700 cooler thing is becoming really annoying. I recently put together a i9-12900K with 64GB(2x32GB) on a Gigabyte Z690 Aotus Elite AX, GeForce RTX3090 Founders Edition, Samsung 980 Pro and more, and I noticed that the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO V2 (which states on their website as well as on the BOX itself, that it works with LGA1700), well to the left of the socket perpendicular to the VRM there is a row of capacitors and the bracket lip TOUCHES ALL the Capacitors!!! But even worse on the right side of the socket there is a sole single capacitor and the screw hole that you use to mount the heatsink is directly above that one capacitor!!!! So if you screw it all the way down then you'll nick the top edge of the black capacitor with the half circle silver color at the top, seriously, who designs these coolers? Do they not have access to motherboards to test the fit before going to production?
    I noticed that NewEgg has a extra Cooler Master Intel LGA1700 Mounting Kit (item 9SIAJ83GPP2224 ,Model: 603006050-GP for the Cooler Master Hyper 212 series coolers, well guess what? That brackets that come in that kit are THE SAME AS THE ONES THAT COME WITH THE COOLER, except there plain silver metal colored instead of the slightly black tinted ones that the Cooler comes with but the sizes, shapes and holes are all still in the same place!!!
    The only solution I found was to get 4 heavy duty industrial grade rubber washers and place them on the board before screwing the 4 screw on bolts to the back bracket that mounts from the rear of the board. That extra 1/8" or less washer height gives you just enough extra room to clear the single capacitor on the right and just enough to NIT touch the capacitors on the left.
    I called and asked around, Amazon, Best Buy Geek Squad, NewEgg, a couple local stores, NO ONE had a clue as to what Cooler you could use, the tech support at Amazon had the nerve to suggest just buying a different brand board!!! Seriously, that's Amazon's solution!!! Finally I got a tech on the phone at MicroCenter who actually knew exactly what I was talking about and he had said that they have been using some AZ-S500 Cooler which neither of us where to keen on but he said he's build several systems with higher end Gigabyte, Asus and other Z690 boards and there's just a poor design issue with coolers for LGA1700. What has been your experience? Any suggestions. I asked Gordon on LinkedIn in (he's great, I've known Gordon for over 20 years) and he hasn't had time to reply yet. I'm thinking about getting ahold of Brad or Aliana to get their take, but if you have a better idea, let me know. Thnaks.

      @theonlyone38 2 года назад +2

      Kind of feels like cooler support has really dropped the ball to the point it's almost like custom loops are more practical. Which is a problem.

    • @milohajek
      @milohajek 2 года назад +1

      @theonlyone38 oh it doesn't kind of feel like it, it's exactly it, almost every cooler out there right now in stock seems to have some issue with fitting on a LGA1700 board.
      Now I am many things, certified draftsman & designer, Information Technology Specialists, Hardware Technician, Mid-Level Auto mechanic, Carpenter, Roofer, Landscaper and much more but one thing I am not is an Electrician (although I have done setup for the IBEW) and know many Electricians, and it just doesn't sound like a good idea to have metal brackets sitting directly on top, and touching Electrical capacitors, and I. Many cases on boards the middle hole where you screw the heatsink down to the mounting brackets, there is a capacitor('s) under that hole, or at least visible through the hole, which means if your not careful, you could screw the heatsink mounting screw right into a capacitor on your brand new $300, $400, $500+ Dollar motherboard, and thats "physical damage" that isn't covered under any warranty. So yes, I would say that there has been a massive loss in communication between motherboard, CPU and Cooler manufacturers.

    Great Review so I subscribed. I wanted to ask your opinion. I was looking at buying the Apex but I am mainly looking for a MB for gaming that I do plan to overclock. I am a little confused about whether the apex is just for record breaking over clocking enthusiasts or would it also be a great for gaming, once I am happy with whatever I set the over clock to. I was trying to decide between Apex or this MB you reviewed. Thank you for any feed back.

    • @ItsGenn
      @ItsGenn 2 года назад +1

      Well, you've probably already made a choice and built your PC but I'll answer your original question. Yes, the Apex is intended only for record breaking OC so you don't buy it unless you plan on using it with LN2. Besides that, you never need a motherboard like this just to push your CPU to its limits. If your goal is just to OC a 12900K and game on it, motherboards a third of the price are more than sufficient. Of course, if you have the budget and want to spend on something like this you can, but you're not going to get any better performance: you might (emphasis on the 'might') be able to get an extra 100MHz on your OC but that's not going to impact day to day performance (especially gaming).

    I have this board i still can’t find anywhere online why they put the second thunderbolt 4 port inside near the power input and they label it TB4 you can see in your video. Would be nice for front case…. But im wondering if it’s just there to use this board as a high end overclocking test bench that’s open air please input

    Tbh I don't get the Extreme Z690 at all. I have the Z690 Hero, which is already darn expensive (got it heavily discounted), and it has 90% of what the Extreme offers. I've compared specs for the whole lineup, and really can't see where are those extra 500$ they ask for the Extreme, even the RGB is prettier in the Hero. ASUS Z690 Maximus range is super overpriced, the Hero used to be the entry board to the enthusiast range, and the price was more or less reasonable. I paid 200$ for the Maximus X Hero and this year they're asking for 650$. Asus tax is getting absurd, really. Wish Gigabyte would improve their software and BIOS because their hardware is pretty solid.

    its a great feature packed board but the ddr5 support is utterly crap, the QVL for memory is totally rubbish and the whole 12th gen experience on two asus boards has been painful and stressful in honesty.
    The tech support is non existent and painfully generic and the once busy forums are now a ghost town and an utter waste of time.
    I firstly bought a hero board that was so buggy i ended up binning it and then went with an extreme board which agian simply doesnt run ddr5 at the xmp speeds it says it will it the asus qvl and even then it is unstable and cannot be relied on to run stable.
    I tried two different 12900k and 12900ks ive tried three sets of different memory ALL of it on thier QVL list, DDR5 is garbage sadly. The ONLY memory i could buy that ran as it should was corsair platinum dominator 6200 and thta just about run stable.
    Now i know that Bios matures over time and will get better but WHEN ? we are 6 or 7 months in now, im running 1403 and in honesty it still isnt right
