I also love the double meaning behind this quote.
When I heard it in the trailer without context, I thought "blood" referred more to the literal term, meaning that the brutality of war is often forgotten while the names of the people waging it live on.
When Corlys said this in the show, I think with "blood" he meant the true bloodline, saying that (for history) it doesn't matter if Rhaenyra's sons are bastards as long as they still carry on the name "Velaryon"...

Especially when he tries to climb up alone, doesn't ask for any help at all, but daemon comes to help and makes him seat in. And subtly put on the crown. Shows the immense respect and admiration of his moral and politically weaker brother. It was an amazing little detail that had so much significance and probably did more character development/resolution than most of the side characters in season 8

Millie was more emotional as Rheanyra because she was a teenager, filled with emotion and unfamiliar with how to handle herself in a PC manner.
By the time Emma is portraying the character, Rheanyra is nearly 30, a mother of 5,(6) and married twice over. She's been a political figure and pawn for her entire life and has much more self control.
The look Emma gave us in that last frame of the show, told me that those emotions were absolutely still within Rheanyra, and not it was going to be released.
I think in season 2 we'll see the Black Queen act on emotion, and Emma will absolutely rock those performances!

The performance in episode 10 was already amazing. It was almost as good as Patty in episode 8. People are only critical of older Rhaenyra because she acts more mature than she did as a teenage girl which isn’t fair at all. It would not make sense for a woman in her late 30s to be “spunky” and “defiant” like she was a 15.

@@alexissimpson5819 It's probably a symptom of the increased time-jumps, we didn't get time to see her grow as a character because the showrunners wanted to get to the civil war quicker, it just meant the transition was quite jarring and while Emma does great with her more mature Rhaenyra, the contrast is stark with little transition.

We've had plenty of high-budget movies/TV shows in the past 5-10 years and yet very few have actually moved the viewers to their core. The film industry should learn to prioritize writing over empty action and CGI, if they want to gain some respect.

And its definitely only the higher end of season 5-6 quality...HOTD is no "bad poosey" level dialogue which unfortunately was in season 5. Although I do think theres quite a few moments in season 5 and 6 that outclass most if not every scene in HOTD.

@@slenderfoxx3797 It's right in the middle, IMO. It's far better than Season 5-8, but not quite as good as Seasons 1-4.
But you also have to remember that they essentially stretched out 50 pages into 10 episodes. The entire first season is basically an epilogue. Season 1-4 of GoT were books worth of material. Now the real fun begins for House of the Dragon, and hopefully that means the quality will just be getting better.
I believe if they continue this quality, follow the books, and don't go too over-the-top with spectacle over characters - you could genuinely have seasons of this show that rival the very best of GoT.

And the Rhaenys dragon pit moment wasnt the most logical ot accurate to her character...but yeah if they can not have any further changes and just stick to the books itll only be up from here...as this whole season was basically a prologue.

Unlike ASOIF, F&B wasn't that rich and the entire story was written in 3rd person's perspective. There isn't that much of a conversation between the characters. So the writers have to be creative and make up almost entirely the actual dialogue that we got in HotD. Not only this but the showrunners have to deal with the many time jumps and the different sources of the story an their credibility to make a show that won't feel overwhelming and that would be realistic as possible. And I think it came out very well done thanks to them, the actors, all of the crew and to the composer who continues to transport us into this world. 🧡🧡

Absolutely. A strong female character is not a female version of Rocky. A strong female doesn't have to fight goons and be a superhero. "Strong" is more about having courage in fave of adversity and surviving with whatever you've got- your strengths AND your weaknesses. A man cannot experience childbirth- thats a woman's strength. A man cannot show tears infront of his enemy- that's a woman's strength. A man can't seduce another man for political gain- that is a woman's strength. So showing what an ordinary woman can do in the setting of a power struggle, I think that is what a strong female character means.

The inconsistency plagues Criston the most, they fleshed out his character so much in Ep 3 to Ep 5, but completely detracted him into the Green's muscle in Ep 6 to Ep 10. This bothers me a lot.

I loved the first season of HotD. It all felt organic and the characters are very tridimensional and complex. The time gaps might have been a bit annoying, but i can understand it taking place in the first season as it being the season that sets the tone and does the exposition. I just hope that we will learn more in the future seasons in the form of flashbacks.
I loved also how we saw from the character's point of view and how they make you shift from one side to the other, because none of the sides are either the embodiment of good or evil. They all have more shades of grey and each and every one of them is the hero of their story. I personally loved the twist in the episode, that being Aemond's reaction to the result of his reckless behaviour. That had me shocked, knowing his tendecies and how quick to anger he can be.
Every member of the cast did a stellar job, even the child actors.

Overall, I am looking forward to seeing what happens with both shows.

I think rhayneara and alicent’s characters in this season kind of flipped on what we got from them. Young rhayneara got to be a little more wild because she’s focused on specifically her whereas old rhayneara for the most part is focused on her kids. Alicents younger self is doing what Otto wants and not necessarily what she wants and old Alicent gets to be a little more wild because she’s finally like, “nah fuck that, I’m queen”

At first I thought you were being too strict about the quality of the dialogue of HOTD and how it doesn’t amount to GOT, but then I remember scenes like Jaime’s speech about being the Kingslayer and it makes the claim a bit more reasonable. Can’t wait to see you review Season 2!

Let's be honest, this season was so spectacular and glaring, it felt like a finale season of a show. I don't think many of us had such high expectations, but the amount of drama and birth scenes were just mind-boggling for a normal viewer. I absolutely loved everything, from writing and casting choices to acting performances. And soundtrack from Ramin Djawadi was beautiful and epic as always.

I really would have loved more character development not only for Harwin Strong and Laena Velaryon, but also for Aemma Arryn. She represented an oportunity to explore Rhaenyra's relation with that side of her family and its political consequences, and make Aemma's death even more emotional and impactful.

Paddy is a God. I'm in love with Olivia. Her facial expressions alone are amazing. She doesn't even need to talk in some of these scenes.

the worst part about the time jumps was when side characters had completely new actors portraying them, like with that one cave scene in episode 6 with aemond being given a pig by the kids as a joke, I literally had no idea who was who until later on, it felt a bit jarring.

It really helps when they have solid source material to base it on.

Agreed!! The only other issue I had was the size of the dragons Caraxes & Syrax should’ve grown over the 20yrs we were with them

HOTD needs to have an epic rendition of the Targaryen theme as intro music. It’s fitting and could layer in the original GOT theme but also mix in different themes from the blacks and the greens. It would make the idea of the civil war so much clearer and more intense

The Scene where Viserys climbs up to sit on the iron throne. Cannot do it, but doesn't need help. Then daemon came in and helped him up is an amazing scene. Especially how he subtly crowned him up. It shows his respect and love for his brother in this state, after all they had been through before. A small moment that added so much character development/resolution shows how amazingly it all was written and acted.
It might not be as good as game of thrones, but it surely seems a bit more grounded. Where every major action, decision or plot twist feels suprising yet
    Not contrived
    Totally hyped. 10/10

    Interesting fact:
The Dragonstone scenes were filmed in a hill-town in central Portugal nicknamed "The Most Portuguese village of Portugal"

I agree with a lot, but Emma is the best actor on the show. Millie is amazing, but Emma’s performances are more subtle than all the rest. She is simply protégé.
As GRAND as Rhys and Paddy are, and I do love them and they’re geniuses, in my opinion she even eclipses them. Olivia is not far behind and her work can actually change my mental state.
Her moment with the dagger was paramount: “No!!! You are sworn tomorrow to MEEE!!!”
The fact is that they’re all brilliant!!!
